Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 900: Ancient Character Corpse Puppets

“Arrogant.”

Sect Master True Man spoke calmly.

He raised his hand and brought two fingers together, drawing upon the Spiritual Energy in the mountains.

Arts and Techniques and Divine Abilities all had their variations.

Quanshan excelled most in corpse arts, driving Stiff Puppets and corpses.

With just a thrust of those two fingers, dense corpse qi and death aura were summoned, obscuring him behind a veil of dim smoke.

At a glance, it looked as if a single person could blot out the sky.

Lihua looked at the man and muttered, “I really hate this...”

It was an unprovoked disgust.

Before they knew it, a stench of corpses drifted over.

Lihua quickly covered its nose, suddenly feeling unwell.

“Bloom.”

Sect Master True Man said softly. With a flick of his fingers, the corpse qi gathered and transformed into a small seven-petaled flower. The flower was gorgeous, yet pitch-black.

The small flower drifted over gently.

Chen Changsheng looked over, suddenly finding it interesting.

This was not really considered any sort of Divine Abilities or Arts and Techniques; it was more about the pure manipulation of qi. The corpse qi and death aura gathered into a flower, drifting toward Chen Changsheng like a death-hastening curse.

Chen Changsheng looked at Sect Master True Man and offered a faint smile.

Sect Master True Man’s brow twitched.

Then, Chen Changsheng raised his hand.

The small flower formed from corpse qi instantly broke free from his control.

Sect Master True Man froze for a moment.

Under his watchful gaze, the flower floated right into Chen Changsheng’s palm.

Chen Changsheng glanced at it and said, “The flower is pure. Though it is formed from corpse qi, it seems as if the corpse qi has defiled such a bloom.”

He simply raised his hand.

He gave his sleeve a slight wave.

The corpse qi clinging to the flower was suddenly blown away like smoke and dust.

The corpse qi scattered, blowing right back into Sect Master True Man’s face.

Sect Master True Man paused. He waved his sleeve, sweeping all the corpse qi inside and making it vanish without a trace.

As the corpse qi dissipated, only a glowing flower remained in Chen Changsheng’s palm.

“Flowers bloom and fall in their own time; no matter how beautiful, they must eventually scatter.”

The flower withered. Its petals scattered in the wind, rising from the mountain stream, bound for who knew where.

Chen Changsheng looked at Sect Master True Man and said calmly, “That counts as one move. Nine left.”

Sect Master True Man frowned slightly.

He stood tall, gathering his momentum.

With a raise of his hand, two streaks of dark light flew from his sleeve.

“Corpse puppets, devour life—manifest!”

As his words fell, the two streaks of dark light transformed into two puppets.

Runes were painted across the corpse puppets’ bodies, yet those runes exuded a demonic, evil aura. One puppet’s eyes were completely hollow, while the other lacked eyes entirely.

Chen Changsheng’s gaze lingered on the runes covering the corpse puppets.

“Ancient characters...”

Looking at it this way, perhaps the lineage of Quanshan shared similarities with Qingxian Temple.

Back when the Daoist lineages of Qingshan City flourished, part of the reason was that they had backers supporting them. The Mysterious Gate of the Cultivation World placed their pieces in the Mortal World—firstly to select those with absolute, peerless talent, and secondly because it tied into the Mortal World’s qi destiny. The things they did were always profitable.

The method of ancient characters, however, was out of the ordinary.

For this Sect Master of Quanshan to know this method, it clearly had not been born in the Mortal World, but had drifted down from the Cultivation World.

Quanshan was by no means ordinary; perhaps they were also a pawn.

Chen Changsheng looked at the two corpse puppets. After studying them for a moment, he said to Sect Master True Man, “This Chen is now very curious about the person behind you.”

Sect Master True Man scoffed coldly, rather displeased by this man’s arrogance.

“Devour him.”

Sect Master True Man ordered. Immediately, the two corpse puppets lunged at Chen Changsheng, snapping their jaws.

The terror of these corpse puppets lay neither in their agility nor in absolute physical strength, but in their bodies. They feared neither water nor fire, and Arts and Techniques were useless against them. Furthermore, such puppets felt no pain, making them incredibly troublesome to deal with.

But for Chen Changsheng, this was as easy as could be.

After all, when it came to the path of ancient characters, Chen Changsheng understood it as well.

Chen Changsheng raised his hand and drew a few ancient characters in the air.

He brought his palms together.

Suddenly, a crisp sound rang out.

“Clap.”

The suspended ancient characters before him suddenly transformed into a column of water, rushing toward the corpse puppets.

Sect Master True Man said, “My corpse puppets are impervious to water and fire. Such Arts and Techniques are no better than a tickle.”

“Is that so?”

Chen Changsheng said softly.

But immediately after, the shift on the battlefield caused Sect Master True Man’s expression to change slightly.

At first, the corpse puppets were merely blocked by the water and remained unharmed. But then, the ancient character runes on the corpse puppets were eroded by the flowing water, gradually showing signs of dissipating.

These ancient characters were like a written passage: if one character was destroyed, all characters were destroyed.

Losing the empowerment of the ancient characters, the corpse puppets before him became like fragile paper, shattering at a single sweep.

In an instant.

The flesh and blood on the corpse puppets rotted and melted. Under the torrent of water, they were reduced to nothing but bare bones in the blink of an eye.

They crashed to the ground!

“Crash!”

After the two corpse puppets fell.

Sect Master True Man’s expression changed as well.

Chen Changsheng said, “These ancient characters had some merit, but it seems This Chen is slightly superior.”

He looked at him and said, “That’s another move.”

Sect Master True Man looked at the putrid corpse water reeking on the ground and the shattered bones. He pondered for a long time, making no move to attack.

It was as if he had realized something.

After a brief silence, he finally asked, “Just who are you?”

Chen Changsheng didn’t answer. He simply said, “Two exchanges have passed. You have eight left.”

But Chen Changsheng had seemingly overestimated the Quanshan Sect Master before him.

How could he possibly have eight moves left?

His first move was nothing more than a probe. Sensing something was wrong, he had used nearly eighty percent of his strength, yet he was still defeated. It was clear this man could not be fought with brute force.

Moreover, the casual demeanor of the man before him sparked worry in Sect Master True Man’s heart. If this continued, he feared he truly would not be a match for him, and when that time came, he wouldn’t even have the chance to resolve things peacefully.

Sect Master True Man said, “Fellow Daoist understands ancient characters; you must not be an ordinary cultivator. As the saying goes, grievances are better resolved than deepened. Why don’t we sit down and discuss this further?”

Chen Changsheng, however, said, “May I ask, Priest, does This Chen look like someone easy to talk to?”

Sect Master True Man’s brow arched slightly.

“Then pardon my offense.”

With that said, he raised his hand and drew forth a Talisman.

“Way of Binding the Upper Immortal, I request Immortal Elder Panluo’s aid.”

The Talisman ignited.

Golden light surfaced, and a dharma body manifested before Sect Master True Man.

A Daoist cultivator with bound hair appeared, clad in Daoist robes. His form was tranquil, but the aura radiating from his body was extraordinary.

Sect Master True Man cupped his hands. “I ask the Immortal Elder to once again manifest the Heaven-Reaching Finger.”

The dharma body stroked its beard and chuckled softly. “What is so difficult about that?”

As his voice fell, the Daoist raised his hand.

With a tap of his fingertip, he stirred the nature of the Great Dao.

The momentum of heaven moved with it, gathering into a single point upon that fingertip.

“Gong!”

A ripple of Daoist resonance swept out, sounding like the chime of a bell.

Everything—absolutely everything—pointed right at Chen Changsheng.
