"Thrum."

The long spear swept outward, kicking up a harsh thrumming in the air.

A suffocating killing intent suddenly rushed their faces.

Scholar-Swordsman froze. The two men who had been searching the area heard the commotion and immediately rushed over.

Following their gazes, they saw the newcomer grasping a silver spear and wearing plain clothes, strands of hair framing her face as she looked on with calm eyes.

To their surprise, it was a woman.

A Tabby Cat perched on the woman's shoulder, licking its paw as it calmly surveyed the scene.

"A woman?!"

Hearing this, Scholar-Swordsman simply said, "Do not underestimate a woman."

Her eyes shone with sheer joy. Finally, the person she had been waiting for had arrived.

She had thought this expert wouldn't come.

She never expected her to simply be running a few steps behind.

"Ruyi the Spear Immortal..." Dong Chiyu gripped her spear. In that moment, the weapon in her hands felt entirely aligned with her will.

Lihua spat a few times and said, "Ruyi, Ruyi, can you slow down next time? Dust got in Lihua's mouth. Patooey, patooey."

Ruyi reached up and tapped the cat's head. "You talk too much."

Lihua shrank its head back, looking wholly displeased.

Ruyi looked at the group in the hall and demanded, "Where is my sister?!"

Scholar-Swordsman furrowed his brow.

Dong Chiyu swept her long spear forward, skipping any pointless chatter.

"Clang, clang, clang..."

She dragged her spear along the ground, kicking up a trail of sparks as she charged fiercely toward Ruyi.

Ruyi frowned at the sight.

Just as Dong Chiyu closed the distance and thrust her spear, Ruyi slipped to the side and delivered a swift kick.

Dong Chiyu took the blow but did not retreat. Instead, she used the momentum to spin. Drawing power from her core, she whipped her spear around in a vicious sweep aimed right at Ruyi.

Startled, Ruyi quickly took two steps back.

"Not bad." Ruyi's eyes lit up. "Not bad at all. Who taught you how to use a spear?"

Dong Chiyu guarded her words like gold, barking out a single demand: "Fight me!"

Ruyi's interest was piqued.

"Alright, alright!"

She whipped her own spear forward, thrusting at Dong Chiyu without holding back in the slightest.

The sweeping strikes of the spears kicked up swirling clouds of dust.

Seeing how turbulent the fight had become, Lihua simply leapt into the air and landed squarely on the horse's head.

The horse was well-behaved and stood perfectly still.

Lihua went back to grooming its whiskers, watching the spectacle unfold.

"That woman called her the Spear Immortal? Where did this Spear Immortal come from?"

Scholar-Swordsman was more worldly and answered plainly. "Years ago in the jianghu, a young woman took up the spear. She traveled the martial world, and in just a few years, she defeated dozens of top-tier experts, earning the title of Little Spear Immortal. She vanished for a few years after that, only to resurface in all her glory on the Fiend Blood Path. Joining forces with the Imperial Court official Wang Ping'an, she quelled the chaos on the Fiend Blood Path. With a single spear, she challenged several master-level fighters and helped found the North-South Martial Alliance. The title of Spear Immortal is truly well-deserved. She is the second-in-command of the North-South Martial Alliance—Ruyi the Spear Immortal."

"Should we go up and help her?"

"No, no need..."

Scholar-Swordsman said, "Let that woman suffer a bit first."

As far as he was concerned, it would be even better if she died.

Just moments ago, Dong Chiyu had completely ignored the honor of the jianghu. While they were locked in combat, she had merely stood by and watched. Now, karma was paying her back.

Exchanging blows with the legendary Spear Immortal, Dong Chiyu began to struggle after only a few moves. For one, she lacked the raw physical strength. More importantly, the gap between her reaction time and Ruyi's was simply too vast.

"Clang!"

As the two spears clashed, a violent shock tore through the webbing of Dong Chiyu's hands, forcing her back several steps.

Ruyi pursued her relentlessly. Using her backward momentum, Dong Chiyu gripped her spear and thrust it forward.

In the blink of an eye, Ruyi raised her hand, closed the distance with a swift step, and seized the shaft of Dong Chiyu's spear.

Dong Chiyu's heart skipped a beat, knowing she was in trouble.

She tried to wrench the weapon free, only to realize her spear was trapped in an iron grip.

With another flick of Ruyi's wrist, the cold blade of her own spear came to rest against Dong Chiyu's neck.

"Thrum."

The residual hum of the vibrating weapon still echoed in Dong Chiyu's ears. She opened her mouth, chest heaving as she took several ragged breaths.

Ruyi snatched the spear from her hands and tossed it aside.

Ruyi's eyes sparkled. "Incredible!" she laughed. "What's your name? Who's your master? Other than myself, I've never seen another woman wield a spear."

Dong Chiyu opened her mouth. After a brief pause, she answered, "My name is..."

"My name is Dong Chiyu."

She paused and lowered her head. "I don't have a master yet."

Ruyi blinked. "No master?"

When Dong Chiyu looked up again, her eyes brimmed with absolute reverence for Ruyi.

She dropped to one knee, cupped her hands, and pleaded, "Please teach me!"

Ruyi stared blankly, suddenly caught off guard.

"Huh?"

The three men standing behind them were just as dumbfounded.

"This woman!!"

Scholar-Swordsman's eyes turned cold.

With that, he hefted his sword and charged.

Seeing the scholar rushing at her with a drawn sword, Ruyi put the kneeling Dong Chiyu out of her mind.

She raised her spear and stepped forward to meet him.

Just as Scholar-Swordsman closed in, he tilted his head to slip past her spear thrust and lunged his sword straight for her throat.

In response, Ruyi simply raised her hand and swatted outward.

The heavy shaft of her spear smacked viciously across the side of Scholar-Swordsman's face.

"Thwack!!"

Scholar-Swordsman spat out a mouthful of blood and was sent flying backward.

The two men following him skidded to a halt in hesitation. They never expected that Scholar-Swordsman—the fifth-ranked expert on the Sword Leaderboard—would be sent flying after a single exchange.

Sweeping her spear to the side, Ruyi said, "You men are pathetic. You're not even half as good as this girl."

She let out a cold snort. "Where is my sister?!"

She strode forward and delivered a swift kick to Scholar-Swordsman.

Under the force of the blow, Scholar-Swordsman had the breath knocked straight out of his lungs, his eyes instantly webbing with bloodshot lines.

As Scholar-Swordsman choked down a mouthful of blood, Ruyi demanded again, "I asked you a question! Talk!"

As she spoke, the tip of her spear pressed flush against his throat.

Scholar-Swordsman swallowed hard, terror finally gripping his heart.

"She's already been taken away," he rasped.

Ruyi glared. "Where?!"

Scholar-Swordsman opened his mouth and blurted, "The Chancellor's Manor!"

Upon hearing this, Ruyi retracted her spear and swung up onto her horse.

"Lihua!"

From its perch on the horse's head, Lihua immediately leapt back onto Ruyi's shoulder.

The horse let out a loud whinny as Ruyi pulled the reins. Before anyone could blink, its hooves kicked off the ground as she rode straight out the gate.

Dong Chiyu froze for a second before scrambling to retrieve her spear from the ground.

She sprinted out of the manor, swung onto her white horse, and galloped off in the direction Ruyi had taken.

"Neigh!"

With a long whinny from the horse, she vanished as well.

Back inside the Tang Manor, Scholar-Swordsman let out a long breath of relief and staggered to his feet.

"Cough, cough..."

He coughed softly, his breathing ragged. "The Spear Immortal truly lives up to her name..."

There were countless experts on the Spear Leaderboard, yet this lone woman sat firmly at the position of Chief. Having finally met her, he could see her reputation was well-earned.

He could tell that the Spear Immortal had intentionally held back. She hadn't been aiming for his life; otherwise, his head would have been reduced to pulp by that strike.

"Brother Scholar-Swordsman!"

"Let's go," Scholar-Swordsman said. "The debt of gratitude has been repaid. Now that the Spear Immortal has been drawn into this, the matter is completely out of our hands."
