Immortal World : MILF Dual Cultivation

Chapter 4: The Engineer’s First Crafting

Lin Tian navigated the muddy alleys of Morning Sun Village, keeping his scavenged prize pressed tight against his chest.Every greedy glance from a passing, starving scavenger was a threat he couldn’t afford right now .

He reached his shack, shoved the creaky metal door open, and slid the heavy iron deadbolt shut behind him. "Safe," Lin Tian exhaled, leaning his weary body against the cold door.

"Good. I actually made it back without getting stabbed," Lin Tian noted, walking past the hanging scrapped crystal processors in his outer room. They swayed on rusted wire like metallic skulls in the draft. Stacks of yellowed texts on artifact repair and circuit theory formed makeshift tables around a worn straw mattress.

"The previous owner scavenged those texts one by one over three years, trading his meals for pages," Lin Tian muttered, touching a dusty book. "I have his memories of hunger, but he never actually understood half of what these pages described. I do."

He ignored the dull hunger gnawing at his gut and walked straight into his inner workshop. This tiny room was his sanctuary, filled with mountains of discarded components, rusted gears, and shattered flying swords.

Sitting heavily at his cluttered workbench, he swept a pile of rusted cogs aside and slammed the broken Thunder-Fire Dagger under the pale flicker of a spiritual lamp. The jagged blade was snapped clean in half, and the ornate hilt was scorched black from an internal energy overload.

"System, wake up and pay attention," Lin Tian ordered, his eyes narrowing in razor-sharp focus. "Activate Insight Eye. Let’s see the broken code inside this piece of trash."

[Ding! Insight Eye activated. Scanning Target...]

The dim room darkened as the violet-and-gold interface bloomed brilliantly into existence. A detailed 3D blueprint projected straight into his mind, breaking the dagger down into hundreds of glowing components floating in a digital void.

"To any traditional artificer, this weapon is unsalvageable," Lin Tian observed, studying the floating diagram. "Repairing it means summoning a roaring spirit flame, re-forging the metal, and re-carving every array by hand with a brush of condensed Qi."

[Flaw Analysis: Primary induction array shattered. Spiritual energy conduction wires severed in three critical junctions. Thermal regulation core melted beyond repair.]

"Melted beyond repair?" Lin Tian scoffed, staring at the glowing data. "In my world, we call that a hardware opportunity."

"I’m stuck at Qi Gathering Level 1, so forging metal is out of the question," Lin Tian stated flatly. "But I’m a software engineer and a hardware tinkerer. I’m going to fix this my way."

He shaved down the ruined groove where the thermal regulation rune had burned itself out. He didn’t waste time trying to repair what was dead, choosing instead to widen the burnt area into a clean, smooth channel.

"The thermal regulator is dead weight anyway, and the blade is too short to use as a proper dagger," Lin Tian muttered, his engineering instincts taking over. "If spiritual energy behaves like electricity, these glowing arrays are just complex circuit boards."

"I don’t need to re-forge the weapon," Lin Tian explained to the interface. "I just need to bypass the dead sectors and rewrite the energy pathways."

His hands moved on their own as he grabbed the cracked rune-graving stylus. Its needle-thin tip still held an edge sharp enough to score hardened spirit-metal. The previous Lin Tian had pulled it off a dead artificer’s corpse two years ago.

"Basic rune theory isn’t a cultivator secret out here," Lin Tian noted, examining the tool. "Every scavenger picks up scraps of it just to recognize a live array from a dead one."

His inherited memories held fragments of that self-taught grammar, like stroke order and how a rune line had to breathe so it wouldn’t seize. What those memories lacked was his own instinct for finding the shortest path through broken logic.

[Critical Warning: Rerouting energy without thermal regulation will cause massive overheating. The weapon will inflict thermal damage upon activation.]

"Let it run hot and unstable, I don’t care," Lin Tian grinned sharply. "I’m not building a sword for prolonged combat. I need a crude tool for a single, lethal strike."

He leaned in close under a scratched magnifying glass, holding his breath to keep his hand steady over the fractured induction array. One wrong stroke and the whole rune line would misfire before it ever left the workbench.

Line by line, he re-carved the severed spiritual conduction pathways with the stylus. He cut fresh grooves that rerouted the flow around the dead sections, exactly like patching broken code by rewriting the instructions directly into the source.

"The main induction array is gone," Lin Tian narrated his process aloud, his eyes bloodshot from the strain. "So I’m carving a bypass straight into the secondary coil."

He held the needle steady, guiding it through a final hairline stroke. "Done. The circuit is closed."

He reached under the cluttered desk and dug out a cracked, low-grade spirit stone from a rotting wooden box. It was barely holding a charge, making it useless for standard cultivation, but it still carried a sliver of volatile energy.

"System, what is the exact energy yield on this rock?" Lin Tian asked.

[Analysis: Low-grade spirit stone. Currently holding 4% of its maximum spiritual charge. Output is highly unstable.]

"It might be unstable, but it is the perfect battery for my closed circuit," Lin Tian explained. He carved a shallow seating groove into the hilt and pressed the cracked spirit stone firmly into place.

Grabbing a hot iron, he sealed the edges with a thin bead of melted resin. "This seals the leak. The stone’s leaking energy will now feed directly into my rewritten pathways instead of bleeding out."

[Energy routed. Circuit closed. Weapon stability is currently calculated at 12%.]

"Twelve percent stability is more than enough to kill a man at close range," Lin Tian said coldly. He turned his attention to the outer housing, knowing he couldn’t walk the slums openly carrying a broken dagger.

"Fatty Leung would try to steal it the moment he saw it," Lin Tian stated. "This weapon needs to disappear."

He salvaged a spring-loaded sliding rail, ripped from the broken arm of a scrapped mechanical puppet. It was the kind of component only a handful of scavengers in Morning Sun Village would even recognize, let alone know how to repurpose.

Using a rusted hand-drill and small iron bolts, he mounted the jagged remains of the Thunder-Fire blade onto the sliding rail. He crafted a simple tension trigger ring and connected it to the heavy spring’s release catch.

"Mechanical engineering beats spiritual forging today," Lin Tian said, lashing the heavy rig tight against his right forearm with thick leather straps torn from a discarded cultivator’s boot.

He stood up from the workbench, his heart pounding, and pulled his grimy windbreaker back on over his arms. The loose fabric draped perfectly over his right arm, swallowing the bulky mechanism whole. Not a trace of the weapon showed.

He slipped the tension ring over his middle finger, closed his eyes, and channeled the thin thread of Qi in his weak meridians straight into the rigged spirit stone.

SNIKT!

The heavy spring engaged with a sharp metallic ring . The jagged blade shot from beneath his sleeve, locking into place inches past his knuckles.

There was no steady, elegant glow, not with the thermal regulator gone and the circuits forced open by hand. Instead, an unstable arc of crimson lightning and fire crackled wildly along the jagged edge, spitting sparks onto the floor.

Heat rolled off the blade, warping the air around his fist. A searing heat bit viciously into his skin, making him wince. "Holy shit, that is hot," Lin Tian hissed, gritting his teeth as the back of his hand quickly turned red.

It was crude, dangerous, and an insult to every principle of proper refining. Any registered artificer in the Outer Sect would have called it an abomination fit only for the melting furnace.

Lin Tian didn’t care what it looked like to trained eyes; he only cared whether it would open a throat. Somewhere in the back of his mind, the old scavenger boy’s instincts recoiled at defacing a real artifact. Earth’s Lin Tian buried that instinct without hesitation, knowing sentiment didn’t stop knives.

A manic grin cut across his dirt-streaked face. He flicked his wrist. The lock disengaged, and the blade snapped back up his sleeve, gone.

"Perfect," Lin Tian breathed out heavily.

For the first time since waking up in this world, the suffocating weight of helplessness lifted off his shoulders. He wasn’t just a Qi Gathering Level 1 scavenger waiting to be bullied, robbed, or killed anymore.

"Yesterday, survival meant staying invisible," Lin Tian said aloud, pacing the small room. "Today, I have something worth being noticed for."

He had his intellect, the Insight Eye, and now, his first lethal weapon. Three things a scavenger boy had never possessed before today.

Stacked together, they formed an advantage that the arrogant sect disciples wouldn’t see coming. Level 3 bullies and Level 5 elders didn’t matter anymore, not the same way they had this morning.

He crossed the room to the cracked mirror by the door. The reflection staring back was grimy and malnourished, but the eyes were cold, sharp, and without fear.

The solitary engineer was gone. What stood there now was a predator, ready to adapt and survive.
