Morning light pierced the heavy silk drapes. On the jade floor, the Yang-Fire Crystal was a pile of gray ash.
Lin Tian sat against the velvet headboard. The golden rings in his dark eyes pulsed. He had officially broken through to Qi Gathering Level 8. His foundation was a terrifying abyss of compressed Qi.
He raised his right hand. Focusing a fraction of his tyrannical Yang Qi into his fingertips, he snapped.
Crack.
A sharp pop echoed. The condensed spiritual pressure physically warped the air.
He lowered his hand, his expression dead calm. The raw power surging through his tempered meridians was terrifying, but his calculating mind was in perfect control.
Beside him, the blankets shifted.
Madam Shen sat up. Her transformation was absolute. The deadly Yin-Frost that had crippled her meridians for a decade was entirely eradicated. Her skin glowed with a vibrant flush. She looked ten years younger.
She didn’t stretch. The exact second her eyes locked onto Lin Tian, the terrifying Head Manager vanished.
She slipped off the bed. Without a shred of pride, the Level 9 Matriarch sank to her knees.
"Good morning, my Sovereign," she whispered. Her husky voice dripped with absolute worship.
She leaned forward and reverently kissed the top of his foot.

Lin Tian smirked coldly. He reached down and gently stroked her silky hair.
"Your Yin-Frost is completely purged, Shen. Your meridians are finally stable," he noted, his tone analytical yet possessing a heavy weight.
"It is all because of your divine fire, Master," she breathed. "Please, allow your servant to dress you."
She stood up and retrieved his dark obsidian robes. Her soft hands expertly navigated the complex sashes. Every time her fingers brushed his chest, her breath hitched.
"Before we leave this room, we establish the rules," Lin Tian said. His voice dropped into a commanding tone.
Madam Shen froze. "I will obey any rule, Master."
"In the shadows, you belong entirely to me," Lin Tian stated. He lifted her chin to meet his cold gaze. "But in the light, you are the untouchable Matriarch."
She swallowed hard, hanging onto his words.
"You will be strict. You will be ruthless," he continued. "If you show even a hint of submission to me in public, I will break you. Understand?"
Madam Shen shivered. "Yes, Master. My pride will shield our secret."
"Good." Lin Tian sat on a carved sandalwood chair.
Madam Shen knelt before him again. "Master, my foundation is stabilized. My authority in the Outer Sect is now absolute. I will transfer the supreme vault access keys to you immediately."
Lin Tian listened in silence.
"I will funnel the monthly stipends of the elite disciples to your estate," she continued eagerly. "I will give you the entire Outer Sect treasury!"
Lin Tian didn’t smile. His dark eyes narrowed.
"No. You will do no such thing."
Madam Shen blinked, stunned. "But... Master?"
"We are not the only players on the board," Lin Tian explained. "The sect is a massive machine. Every spirit stone carries a spiritual signature. If you suddenly drain the treasury, what happens?"
Her breath caught. Her sharp managerial mind cleared.
"The annual audits," she whispered. "The Inner Sect conducts random spiritual audits. If there is a sudden deficit, they will send the Inquisitors."
"Exactly," Lin Tian smirked. "If you hand me everything openly, we will be executed. True power is controlling the shadows where the gold flows. We will not steal the resources. We will launder them."
Madam Shen leaned in, mesmerized. "How, Master?"
"Tell me about the ’Spillage Quota’."
"When transporting volatile pills and raw herbs from the Inner Sect, there is an accepted loss rate of five percent," she answered quickly. "The sect writes it off as natural damage."
"And who verifies this damage?"
"My department."
"Perfect," Lin Tian said coldly. "From now on, the Outer Sect will suffer a constant, highly documented five percent loss on all premium shipments."
"But Master, if the auditors check the incinerator logs, they will notice the missing pills."
"You will swap the premium pills with expired, low-grade trash laced with heavy Qi ink," Lin Tian corrected. "When they arrive ’damaged’, the auditors will only sense the residual Qi and approve the incineration."
Madam Shen’s eyes lit up with brilliant understanding.
"The real premium goods will go straight into my spatial rings," Lin Tian finished.
"Flawless!" she gasped. "Five percent of the entire Outer Sect’s monthly budget... that is astronomical wealth!"
"That is phase one. Phase two is the Artifact Graveyard," Lin Tian continued. "Starting today, you will declare mid-grade artifacts ’beyond repair’ and send them to me."
He tapped his finger on the armrest. "I will dismantle them, erase their tracking runes, and sell the untraceable parts in the Underground Ghost Market."
Madam Shen trembled with awe.
"We use those black-market credits to buy restricted resources that this sect doesn’t possess," Lin Tian said. "It creates a perfectly sealed, invisible loop of wealth."
"It is a masterpiece," she whispered.
"But to maintain this, our positions must remain unshakable," Lin Tian added. "Our ultimate goal is the Inner Sect. I need you to climb the ranks and become a Resource Elder. What stands in your way?"
Her expression turned bitter. "Deacon Liu."
"Explain."
"He covets my position," she said coldly. "He wants to publicly humiliate me at the upcoming Outer Sect Weapon Exhibition."
"How?"
"He hired a Level 3 Artificer from the Inner Sect. They are producing the ’Wind-Piercer Crossbow’. It shoots Qi-infused bolts that can penetrate a Level 5 Qi Gathering shield. He plans to mock our Artifact Pavilion’s standard swords as useless scrap."
Lin Tian calculated rapidly. His past knowledge of structural design was superior, but raw metal couldn’t pierce a Qi shield. To crush Deacon Liu, he needed to formally master the Dao of Refining. He needed to understand Spiritual Arrays and ancient Runes.
"Let Deacon Liu dig his own grave," Lin Tian said smoothly, a predatory light flashing in his eyes.
"Master?"
"To crush him, I will personally oversee the production of a new standard-issue weapon," Lin Tian commanded. "Secretly funnel foundational Refining Manuals, Array Compendiums, and Rune Dictionaries to my office."
"Master, you wish to learn Refining? The path requires years of rote memorization."
"Do you doubt my capability, Shen?" his voice turned dangerously quiet.
"Never!" she bowed her head instantly.
"Provide the texts, scrap metal, and spirit ink. I will elevate my proficiency in the shadows. By the Exhibition, I will hand you a blueprint that will render Deacon Liu’s crossbow obsolete."
"As you command, my Sovereign."
She stood up. Taking a deep breath, the devoted slave tucked her emotions away. She walked to her wardrobe and pulled out her majestic, heavy crimson robes. Pinning her silver-black hair into a towering bun, her aura shifted dramatically.
The air grew cold. In seconds, she was back to being the terrifying, ice-cold Head Manager.
Turning to face Lin Tian, her exterior was a flawless mask of indifference. But she gave a slow, respectful nod—a secret gesture meant only for him.
"The morning bell is tolling, Special Supervisor Lin," she said in her strict public tone. "The Outer Sect requires our meticulous management."
Lin Tian stood. He smoothed his dark obsidian robes, ensuring his hidden wrist-blade was perfectly concealed.
"Lead the way, Head Manager," he replied.
He followed her out of the luxurious bedchamber. The heavy mahogany doors swung open. They stepped out into the bustling, sunlit courtyard.
Two elite guards snapped to attention, trembling as Madam Shen’s terrifying Level 9 aura washed over them.
"Double the patrols around the treasury," Madam Shen snapped coldly. "If I find a single spirit stone unaccounted for, I will cripple your meridians."
"Y-yes, Head Manager!" the guards shouted in terror.
Before she could speak again, a sneering voice echoed.
"Ah, Head Manager Shen. Looking remarkably healthy this morning."
Lin Tian glanced up. A thin man with a rat-like mustache and green robes walked toward them, flanked by four armed disciples. It was Deacon Liu.
Madam Shen didn’t blink. Her face remained a mask of pure ice.
"Deacon Liu," she said, her voice cutting like a frozen blade. "If you have time to wander my courtyards, your department must lack work."
Deacon Liu sneered, stopping a few feet away. His eyes flicked to Lin Tian with obvious disgust.
"I heard you appointed a new Special Supervisor from the slums," Liu mocked. "A Level 5 piece of trash. Is the Resource Hall really so desperate?"
The disciples behind Liu chuckled.
Madam Shen’s eyes narrowed. The temperature plummeted.
"Who I appoint is none of your concern, Liu," she stated coldly. "Watch your tone with your superior."
Deacon Liu laughed dismissively. "Enjoy your authority while it lasts, Shen. I look forward to seeing what garbage your Pavilion presents at the Exhibition next week."
He turned on his heel to walk away.
"Deacon Liu," Lin Tian spoke up. His voice was calm, respectful, and entirely subservient.
Liu paused, raising an eyebrow. "What is it, slum rat?"
Lin Tian bowed slightly, keeping his eyes on the floor. He played the obedient subordinate flawlessly.
"The Head Manager has instructed me to completely overhaul the standard-issue weapons," Lin Tian said smoothly. "We eagerly await your feedback at the Exhibition."
Liu burst into genuine laughter.
"You? Overhaul the weapons?" Liu mocked loudly. "I can’t wait to see it, rat. Try not to blow yourself up."
Still laughing, Deacon Liu and his men walked away.
Madam Shen stood perfectly still. Her icy mask remained, but her hands were clenched into tight fists.
"You handled that perfectly, Special Supervisor," she said coldly, for the guards’ benefit.
"Thank you, Head Manager," Lin Tian replied respectfully, his head still bowed.
But beneath his hood, a terrifying, predatory smirk spread across his face.
Let the Deacon laugh. In exactly one week, Lin Tian was going to shatter his pride, destroy his faction, and take absolute control.
The game had officially begun.
