Immortal World : MILF Dual Cultivation

Chapter 63: The System’s Evolution and Segmented Forging

...Deacon Liu thought he was playing a game of sect politics. He had no idea he had just stepped into the sights of a predator armed with a fusion no cultivator in this world could hope to understand.

The next morning, the sun cast a golden hue over the peaks of the Crimson Nimbus Sect. Inside the Artifact Pavilion, the heat was already suffocating.

Furnaces roared like caged beasts, spitting waves of scorching air and spiritual soot. Hundreds of shirtless apprentices hammered glowing profound iron, their strikes forming a deafening rhythm of metal and fire.

Through this chaos walked Madam Shen.

She had shed the soft, submissive demeanor she displayed in the absolute privacy of Lin Tian’s courtyard. Now, draped in her high-collared, majestic crimson robes, she was once again the untouchable, icy Queen of the Outer Sect. Her expression was a mask of glacial authority, her Qi Gathering Level 9 aura pressing down so heavily that the surrounding refiners immediately stopped their hammering to bow respectfully.

Half a step behind her, in plain obsidian robes, walked Lin Tian. His eyes swept the furnaces and array boards with the cold precision of an engineer reading a factory floor.

"Head Manager Shen," a junior supervisor scurried over, wiping soot from his brow. "We did not expect you. The exhibition hall is preparing Deacon Liu’s swords for—"

"I have no interest in the main hall," Madam Shen cut in, her voice crisp. "Open the gates to the Deep Scrapyard. I’m conducting an inspection."

The supervisor gulped and bowed without question. "Yes, Head Manager!"

They bypassed the bright upper levels and descended a spiraling stone staircase. The furnace heat faded as they went, replaced by a damp, stagnant chill lit only by dim, low-grade spirit pearls.

This was the Deep Scrapyard — the most marginalized sector of the pavilion, where broken weapons were dumped alongside the sect’s forgotten and unwanted staff.

In the corner of a cluttered workshop, surrounded by mountains of rusted swords and cracked shields, sat a lone woman.

Her faded grey robe was plain, though the fabric couldn’t fully hide the mature curves beneath it. Her hair was tied in a loose bun, secured with a wooden hairpin. She carved a repair rune onto a broken shield, her hands steady despite the dim, joyless surroundings.

Lin Tian’s eyes narrowed.

Insight Eye.

A violet-and-gold interface unfurled across his vision, locking onto the woman ahead. This time, the display looked different — denser, deeper.

[Ding! Scanning Target...]

[Name: Lin Wan (Aunt Lin)]

[Age: 42]

[Cultivation: Qi Gathering Level 6]

[Profession Rating: 1-Star Mid-Level Array Engraver]

[Spiritual Root: Earth-Fire Dual Affinity Root]

[Physique: Mortal Body (hidden special innate physique)]

[Talent Rating: 3 Stars (Excellent for auxiliary professions)]

[Flaw: Severe Qi Stagnation in the heart meridian, caused by years of isolation.]

[Obsession Level: 0%]

Lin Tian’s eyes widened slightly. System — where did these new fields come from? Profession, Spiritual Root, Talent Rating. The Insight Eye never showed this much before.

The system’s voice answered inside his mind, mechanical yet faintly warm.

[Ding! Answering the Host: The Sovereign Matriarch Conquest System has undergone a primary evolution. Target 1 reaching 100% Extreme Devotion released a surge of pure, devoted Yin energy, triggering an upgrade to Version 1.1.]

[The Insight Eye can now read a target’s genetic structure, spiritual roots, auxiliary professions, and hidden physiques. The Obsession tracker will now only activate for high-value Elite Targets capable of granting Synergy.]

A faint, predatory smirk touched his lips. Conquest fuels the upgrade. The deeper I claim this sect’s matriarchs, the sharper my sight becomes.

He dismissed the interface and returned his attention to the woman before him.

"Aunt Lin," Madam Shen said, her tone softening a fraction in acknowledgment of the woman’s seniority.

Aunt Lin paused her carving and looked up. Traces of mature beauty still lingered beneath the exhaustion clouding her face.

"Head Manager Shen." She offered a polite, distant bow. "What brings you to this graveyard?"

"I need your hands," Madam Shen said, stepping forward. "Deacon Liu has challenged my authority over this pavilion. In four days, at the Weapon Exhibition, I intend to present a new standard-issue artifact that crushes his imported swords. You’re the only engraver here steady enough to carve the core arrays."

Aunt Lin’s eyes widened, then she shook her head with a bitter smile. "Head Manager, you overestimate me. I repair scrap. A wholly new weapon prototype, in four days? Even the Inner Sect’s Grandmaster Artificers need months for that kind of design work. You’re walking into his trap."

"It’s only impossible if you’re bound by traditional methods," a low voice said from behind Madam Shen.

Aunt Lin’s gaze shifted to the young man she’d dismissed as a bodyguard. Under the dim light, his scarred face and dark, stellar eyes came into focus — and with them, a sudden wave of scorching Yang energy that made her stagnant heart stutter, like an ember stirred awake after years of cold.

"You are...?" she asked, her voice catching.

"Lin Tian. Special Supervisor of the Resource Hall." He tossed a glowing jade slip onto her workbench. "And the one who designed this weapon."

She channeled Qi into the slip. The blueprint of the *Spirit-Fire Repeating Crossbow* bloomed in the air above the bench.

At first she studied it with a veteran’s dismissive eye. Then her gaze reached the firing chamber, and she shot upright, knocking her stool backward.

"Where’s the beast-tendon? The tension mechanism?" She leaned closer, tracing the runes with her eyes. "These are Wind-Gathering Runes, sealed in a closed loop. What is this meant to do?"

"It replaces the tendon entirely," Lin Tian said, stepping beside her, his shoulder brushing hers. She felt a jolt run down her spine at the closeness. "Beast-tendons fatigue and snap. This chamber compresses air instead — trapped wind bursting free the instant the trigger opens. No moving parts to wear down. It fires continuously."

Aunt Lin trembled as the design’s genius settled over her. "The energy loss is near zero. But the tolerance..." She pointed at the chamber. "These are Peak-Grade runes. Off by half a hair’s width, and the backfire takes the user’s hand off. Engraving this demands total focus. Working without sleep, four days might give me three finished chambers. Three won’t convince the sect elders of anything."

"You’re assuming you have to forge the entire weapon yourself," Lin Tian said, eyes glinting with confidence.

"Isn’t that the tradition?" Aunt Lin asked. "A weapon born from a single hand, for spiritual harmony."

"A tradition that cripples output," he said flatly. "I’m introducing segmented forging." *The assembly line,* he thought, translating the concept silently into terms this world could hold.

"Engraving is its own specialized craft," he continued, watching her steady, calloused fingers. "You’re a Level 6 cultivator with a 1-Star rating — matched exactly to these Tier 1 runes. My cultivation runs higher, and I know the theory, but carving one blade’s sharpness array is nothing like engraving hundreds of these compression circuits back to back. I lack your muscle memory. If I engraved these chambers myself, I could manage maybe five in four days."

He tapped the desk near her hand. "You’ve repaired thousands of arrays. Your hands don’t hesitate. So we split the work. You engrave nothing but the compression chambers, in a quiet room, without interruption. Madam Shen will assign twenty apprentices — ten to pour the outer casings, ten to carve the basic bolt runes. I’ll oversee final assembly and calibration myself."

Aunt Lin stared at him, the shape of it settling into place in her mind. Breaking a single sacred craft into repeatable, divided tasks — the math shifted entirely.

"If we split it like this..." she calculated aloud, her stagnant Qi stirring with sudden excitement. "I wouldn’t need to stop at three. In four days, we could produce a hundred."

"A hundred rapid-firing, armor-piercing crossbows," Lin Tian said, turning to her with a faint smile. "Enough to turn Deacon Liu’s imported swords into a joke."

Aunt Lin looked up at him. Ten years in the dark, dismissed as scrap by everyone who’d once called her colleague — and this man looked at her like she was something worth building an empire around.

His Yang scent, combined with the sheer audacity of his mind, brought a warm flush to her cheeks.

[Ding! Target 2: Aunt Lin]

[Obsession Level: 15% (Deeply Intrigued & Inspired)]

[Status: Qi Stagnation alleviating rapidly due to Host’s presence.]

"I’ll do it," she whispered, her voice trembling with something closer to hunger than fear. She bowed deeply. "I’ll engrave every chamber without a single flaw, Supervisor Lin."

"Good," Madam Shen said, stepping forward, quietly marveling at how effortlessly her Sovereign had rewritten the pavilion’s laws in a single conversation. "Aunt Lin, pack your tools. You’re no longer assigned to the Deep Scrapyard. I’m moving you to a restricted workshop. From this moment, you answer only to Lin Tian."

Lin Tian picked up the glowing blueprint, his gaze sweeping over the shadows of the Artifact Pavilion, cold and sharp as a honed blade.

"Let the forging begin."
