"I must trouble you, Fellow Daoist Gao!" Zhou Qing'ang said with a smile, transferring thirty thousand contribution points as he spoke.
This was Gao Yuan's payment. One thousand contribution points per cultivator processed—not a huge sum, but not insignificant either. It hadn't required much effort on his part.
Besides, both parties understood this was only the first batch. The real scale was yet to come.
Gao Yuan accepted without ceremony, pocketing the contribution points on the spot before making his promise. "If more ancient cultivators need to join the Alliance in the future, come to me. I'll ensure every procedure is handled without a single error.
"That said, to avoid drawing suspicion, it would be best to proceed in batches with intervals between them." He added this last part with a measure of tact.
Zhou Qing'ang cupped his hands. "You are as thoughtful as ever, Fellow Daoist Gao. I'm afraid I'll be imposing on you quite frequently from now on."
Gao Yuan's pulse quickened. He lowered his voice. "Could you give me a rough estimate, Fellow Daoist? Just how many ancient cultivators are there in that secret realm?"
Zhou Qing'ang smiled without answering. He held up four fingers, then turned and led the Medicine King Sect disciples away.
Four hundred? Quite a large secret realm. No wonder that friend of Zhou Qing'ang's wanted to keep it to himself. Gao Yuan stood there, mildly astonished.
They represented four thousand.
Rather than bringing the thirty Medicine King Sect disciples, now equipped with Myriad Immortals Alliance identities, into the Tianxuan Mirror space, Zhou Qing'ang led them to a cave dwelling in the central residential district of Congyun Immortal City.
Inside a secret chamber within the dwelling, over fifty Mini Tianxuan Mirrors had been arranged in neat rows.
"First, familiarize yourselves with the basic operation of the Mini Tianxuan Mirrors."
Zhou Qing'ang demonstrated once for the group, then gave his instructions.
The Tianxuan Mirror was extraordinary, but these were disciples of a major sect; they had seen their share of the world. After only a brief moment of awe, they got the hang of it.
"Each of you has been given one thousand contribution points as a welcome benefit. It's not much, but there's no need to worry. Pay close attention to the tasks about to be posted in the Tianxuan Mirror." As he spoke, Zhou Qing'ang flicked his sleeve, and a light screen materialized in the air above the chamber.
The tasks displayed all had peculiar requirements, yet offered substantial rewards.
One sought anecdotes about the life of a cultivator from an ancient sect that existed thousands of years ago.
Another came from someone puzzled by a certain technique, hoping for guidance from an expert.
Yet another was posted by a cultivator hopelessly enamored with a female cultivator and willing to pay handsomely for advice on winning her over.
The requests were varied and strange without end.
"Here are the prepared answers. All you need to do is copy them once the bounty tasks go live.
"Divide them among yourselves. No one is to complete more than two tasks. No fighting over the same one, no duplicates."
Zhou Qing'ang summoned a second light screen, laying out the answers to every one of those odd requests.
None of the Medicine King Sect cultivators present were fools. They grasped immediately what they were being asked to do, and a ripple of excitement passed through the group.
After a brief discussion, each chose their tasks.
They leaned over their Mini Tianxuan Mirrors, waiting for the tasks to be posted.
Before long, a series of mechanical chimes rang out from the mirrors, and the Medicine King Sect cultivators collected their first windfall.
Zhou Qing'ang nodded in satisfaction, then waved his hand. A small mountain of miscellaneous items appeared in the chamber.
"While you wait for the tasks to refresh, take these items and convert them to contribution points through the Tianxuan Mirror," he said, his tone measured. "Don't overdo it. Keep it under three thousand per person."
Everyone complied without question.
Once that was done, Zhou Qing'ang had them open a section of the Tianxuan Mirror called Techniques Encompass the World.
It was bustling inside, with new information flashing past every few moments.
"Place your bets! Which province will host the upcoming Amity Conference between the Five Elders Council and the Myriad Immortals Alliance!"
"Hahaha, I guessed right! Old Man Fisher actually showed up in Taihua Province this time! Who would have thought he'd wander that far!"
"The ultimate wager: how long will the peace between the Five Elders Council and our Immortal Alliance last this time? High rollers only!"
The disciples stared, momentarily at a loss.
Just as they had answered questions using prepared responses, they now placed bets based on predetermined outcomes.
Some won, some lost, but the net result was a modest gain.
As the contribution points in their accounts slowly climbed, Zhou Qing'ang called a halt.
"Pick the cultivation technique you wish to practice, up to the Golden Core level. We continue tomorrow."
Faced with the dazzling array of technique catalogs, the disciples were completely absorbed, losing themselves in the choices.
As for "Zhou Qing'ang," he was busy with his own calculations.
Four hundred thousand contribution points spent in total. Each disciple gained roughly ten thousand today, meaning three hundred thousand contribution points have been laundered.
Not entirely unscrupulous.
This secret chamber, along with the tasks and wagers within the Tianxuan Mirror, were all channels for rapidly laundering contribution points.
Specialized work required professional hands, and it cost only a modest number of contribution points—well within what Li Fan could afford.
Furthermore, this group was thoroughly professional. Their methods were varied, discreet, and clearly well-practiced. Li Fan had no complaints.
The Mini Tianxuan Mirrors gathered in this chamber were a good example. They appeared to be concentrated in one place, but their physical forms were distributed across the Myriad Immortals Alliance's territories.
The chamber simply provided an extended interface. There was no risk of exposure from a high concentration of similar contribution point activity originating from a single location.
The laundering process proved highly efficient. Three days later, the first batch of Medicine King Sect disciples had accumulated the required contribution points and redeemed their techniques in high spirits.
Zhou Qing'ang led them back to Embodiment Island.
There, the next batch of Medicine King Sect cultivators was already prepared to leave.
Zhou Qing'ang held an official position in the Immortal Alliance, which made him too conspicuous to lead successive trips. That task fell instead to Xia Ye, the first among them to have awakened.
He seemed nervous, but he kept his composure. With Gao Yuan notified in advance and ready to assist, the process went smoothly.
Everything moved forward in order. The second and third batches of ancient Medicine King Sect cultivators completed their registration without incident and were formally inducted into the Myriad Immortals Alliance.
One month later, a travel-worn Liu San returned, his face etched with defeat.
What greeted him was a Medicine King Cauldron full of disciples radiating renewed energy and purpose. He barely had time to take it in before he heard Li Fan's voice.
"Elder Liu, how did the mission go?"
Liu San's weathered face reddened. He started to answer, then caught sight of the disciples chattering among themselves nearby and thought better of it. He drew Li Fan aside and lowered his voice.
"I have failed you, Young Master. I had studied the map carefully, but standing in those places made me understand what it truly means when they say 'mountains and rivers transformed beyond recognition.'"
He let out a quiet sigh. "I couldn't find even a shadow of the places in my memories. It was as if I had walked into an entirely different world.
"And the Dao Unity cultivators in this land are far sharper than those of our time. I concealed my aura as carefully as I could, and still I was found out."
Li Fan's eyes narrowed slightly.
"Fortunately, he mistook me for a Five Elders Council cultivator. He only issued a warning, something about the Amity Conference being imminent, and that I shouldn't wander about causing unnecessary misunderstandings." Liu San gave a cold snort, his expression sour with indignation.
A moment later, though, he conceded with reluctant honesty, "I could sense that his cultivation was also at the mid-stage Dao Unity realm. But if it had truly come to a fight, I doubt I would have won."
Li Fan offered words of comfort. "The new methodology plunders the heavens and seizes the earth. Its practitioners carry their own grotto-heavens and laws within themselves. In a contest of techniques, they naturally hold an advantage over cultivators of the old methodology.
“Elder Liu, there is no need to take it to heart. If you were to switch to the new methodology, your combat strength would not fall short of anyone's."
Some of the tension eased from Liu San's expression.
"The cultivators who will be refining the Longevity Pills have all been assembled," Li Fan continued. "For the next phase, we will need you to oversee the process and take charge of the overall effort, Elder Liu.
"The contribution points the disciples used to redeem techniques were advanced on credit by Fellow Daoist Zhou and myself. We need to sell a batch of Longevity Pills soon to repay the debt."
Liu San listened and nodded.
Then his brow creased slightly. "At present, I am the only one in the entire sect cultivating the Salvation Longevity Scripture. My Longevity Verdant Force is limited. I fear the quality of what I refine will not be particularly high."
He was quiet for a moment, then said with a frown, "I estimate that they will be low-to-mid grade at best, capable of extending life by only two or three hundred years at most."
"That is sufficient, Elder Liu," Li Fan said, his tone firm. "Please begin."
