Chapter 11: Chapter 11: Her Lies

[Mission 1: Investigate the death of the original host. Status: Active. Progress: 40%.]

Before he started training, Derrick checked out the progress of his mission. Seeing the number climb so high yet still so low, he was not so surprised.

What did I expect. What I have now I just information and theory. I need solid proof of who was behind the attack on this Derrick. he thought, walking up the old shed in the corner and open the door. Sounds weird when I say it like that.

A cloud of smoke escaped the room the moment Derrick stepped in.

"Cough!" He waved his hand before his mouth while accidentally chocking on thick dust. It seemed like it had been a while since someone came in.

He found some switches on the wall and turned them on without thinking.

Suddenly, three things happened.

The dark space bloomed into a neatly arranged storage room.

All the dirt in the room seemed to be magically sucked in my some spell and was chucked out of the room. Where did it go? Derrick had no idea. At least it did not dirty the garden or he would have to take Cassie’s place tonight.

And lastly, a list of items appeared on the wall next to the switches. It was a proceed screen which he could interact with simple touch.

The list contained all the name of all items that were in the room.

Broken Tables X 3

Broken Chairs X 4

Old China Dish Set X1

Old and Broken TV X 1

.

.

.

Coffee Maker, Missing Pot X 2

.

.

.

...

And the list went on and on. For a small room, it surprisingly had so many things stored. Half of the things were ready to be thrown out or resold but Rebecca did not do that for some reason.

He had no idea why.

But right now, Derrick’s mind was focused on looking for things that would be use to him and it did not take long for him to find them.

Thick Mats X 5

Yoga Mat, never used once X 1

Roll of rope (Mynol) X 1

He walked to corner of the room and found them rolled against the wall. turning off the switches, Derrick walked out with his hands full.

"This Mynol material is really something else."

He used the rope that looked like plastic but had surprisingly tough strength and tied the mats to the trunk of the tree, turning it into a make shift punching bag.

Once the padding was thick enough he stopped and laid out the mat.

"Let’s start with the basic test of this body." Dropping down on the ground, Derrick started doing pushups. Hands separated by shoulder length, back straight and elbows tucked in towards the chest,

Inhale!

With his posture set, he went down while taking a deep breath and pushed up while...

Fuuu...

Inhale!

Fuu...

Derrick kept doing that over and over again.

Without even breaking a sweat, he finished the 50th one. And not once did he break out of his form. In his previous life, Derrick worked out as well. He aimed to break the stereotype of shut in writers.

Since the work was demanding and often boring sometimes, writers shut themselves in for hours but he tried to stay out as much as possible, even while he wrote the Chapters.

He spent hours maintaining his physique.

So, it did not take him time to get his form right or messing up simple push ups.

Before he knew it, Derrick had crossed the hundred mark and he had finally started to slow down. His new body was apparently stronger than many fighters he knew in his old life.

He did not feel any strain on his muscles, just some heaviness in breath.

Instead of continuing his pushups until his arms gave out, Derrick stood up.

"This will only waste time for now. I wonder how old Derrick trained his body to reach this level. Even I was weaker than this in my old life." Grumbling to himself, the boy reached the tree and took a boxing stance.

Just when it looked like he would punch the tree, his body tilted and...

Smack!

He kicked it!

Not stopping there, he used the momentum of the jump in the air and land another kick before landing. Then he began the combination.

The punch and the kicks, all mixed in the flow of his attack.

This went on until a few hours until his clothes were soaked in his sweat and his arms felt like lead.

At the end of his training session, Derrick looked at the punch marks left on the paddings and the broken bark on the tree as he thought, ’I need to join a gym.’

He had realized that his body was far stronger than he had originally anticipated. Not only was it more coordinated, it was more ready for attacks and moved faster than his thoughts did.

"I should go upload the Chapters today." By the time he finished, showered, and ate, the sun had gone down and Rebecca had already went up to sleep in her room. Cassandra was in her bed, reading some book on her phone.

The phones of this world had surprised Derrick, not only did they have no metallic body but they only had a glass screen.

The simple glass screen with a small closed component at the bottom. The screen could change colors and it displayed everything despite the lack of physical components.

His computer screen was the same but it had a housing until at the bottom which was much bigger than that of a phone.

Shaking his head, he ignored the useless thoughts.

For now, he had to focus on earning money, his novel first.

Fifteen thousand words. That’s how many words he had written and uploaded until now. Now, he decided to write 5k more before turning in for the night.

The name of his story was, Her Lies.

Once he was done writing, Derrick started checking the response of the readers to his story...
