Chapter 15: Chapter 15: Can Villain Be Smart?

The chambers were unlike what he had imagined. The second floor had private chambers divided by blurred mirrors to prevent anyone from spying inside. The doors of every one of the rooms were opened, and he could choose any he wanted.

Derrick did not think much and picked the closest room to him.

There were two pieces of equipment inside. One of them was something he had been very familiar with.

A treadmill.

He looked to the side and noticed a boxing pad installed directly inside the wall with a glowing ’Hit me!’ hovering above it.

And so he did.

Walking up to the marked spot on the ground, he took a boxing stance and hit it as hard as he could.

Several numbers appeared in the air. They were spinning for a while before settling on

Strength Output: 12.

Derrick finally understood why it felt so powerful. It was because he was more powerful than other humans.

’Is this related to my transmigration or something?’ He wondered while moving to the treadmill.

He did not have all day to stand there and think about everything in the room.

On the treadmill, he could see a set of instructions written below the only two buttons pressed.

The treadmill wasn’t there to help him run. It only measured how fast he ran, and two switches were to adjust the distance he wanted to be recorded.

After some thought, he decided to run a kilometer, which was the lowest setting available.

’I have never run on full speed in this life. I wonder what it is going to be like.’

Click!

The moment he saw the countdown on the screen hit 0, Derrick ran with everything he had. Even though he was running in the same spot, everything around him shifted. It was like he was standing on a running track surrounded by green.

This was another feature of the room that changed the scene around the users to get them in the feel of running in the wild.

And it worked; Derrick ran like a beast that had been unleashed.

The surroundings around him blurred. The bushes and trees blended into the skies as his mind filtered them out and focused on the red light in the distance that he seemed to be chasing.

It took him 2 minutes, but he finally caught up to it, and with that, the simulation ended.

Ding!

"I don’t even think joining a Gym would help me much at this point." Naturally, Derrick was joking.

He knew in a world of powers and fists, the Gyms must be magical too. So he hurriedly deleted the records and walked out of the room.

The reason he was acting all hasty was because he feared that the greedy Ai of this place might appear out of nowhere with some hidden clause where staying too long might cost him extra.

"You are back so fast. Are you done?"

"Yeah. I am done. Now, excuse me, I have an appointment to meet." Derrick did not even let her start a conversation and practically ran out of the place.

Even when he saw the cute pout on her innocent face, he ignored it with every ounce of will in his body and looked away.

...

"Phew... that vicious Ai. She almost converted me... what am I even saying?" Derrick raised his hand to cover the sunlight falling in his eyes as he made his way back to his home.

But then he caught a shadow of a human standing on the other side of the road.

"Derrick. You are a hard man to find alone. and here was thinking I would have to storm into your house to have a chat with you."

Standing there was none other than Kenny West. Dressed in the academy uniform. Black battle suit with a metal frame covering his vitals.

With his hands in his pockets, he just stood there with a smirk on his face.

Seeing him like this, Derrick wondered if he had just sneaked out of the academy just to meet him and how long he had been standing there.

"I had been wanting to deal with you for a while, but you are a slippery motherfucker." He took his hand out and dramatically ran his fingers through his hair like he was some movie character about to beat the shit out of Derrick.

"I told you to stay away from Gwen," Kenny said. "Yesterday. At the store. But what do I hear, not only did you visit them, but you also dared to threaten Mrs. Lee?"

"And?" Derrick said, unimpressed. "You gonna try to kill me again, like the day before yesterday?"

He hadn’t meant it seriously.

It was more of a bait that he laid out, half-expected to bounce off harmlessly.

Kenny was the second person he suspected the most for his death after Gwen’s mother. Instead, Kenny’s face twisted, genuine anger flashing through the practiced smugness.

"No," Kenny said, his voice dropping low. "I’ll make it worse. I don’t know how you survived my uncle’s Mind Shattering Poison Technique, but you won’t get a third chance."

His uncle’s what now?

And what does he mean by third? He tried to kill the original Derrick once more before, already?

Derrick filed that away with the same cold precision he’d been filing everything else. Poison. Someone in this family has access to poison techniques. I was just throwing accusations. But that’s a confession with extra steps.

"I don’t want you visiting Gwen. Not at her house, not at her school, not ever again," Kenny continued. "Are we clear?"

"No," Derrick said simply.

He genuinely believed, for about two more seconds, that being out on an open street with people walking by twenty feet away made him safe.

He’d read the trope a hundred times; public places meant witnesses, and witnesses meant Kenny could not things too far or he would be in trouble.

But apparently, not one told him that.

Kenny laughed, cold and delighted. "You really don’t know the depths of this world, do you?"
