’Thank you, Brother Aventine...’
Hearing Melia’s words as he sat looking at the clock, Aventine sighed in relief.
’Made it.’
The desk in front of him was a mess of papers, enchanted metals, gemstones, occult powders, and cursed trinkets.
Calculations filled every available surface, outlining an original Light Magic spell.
It was made in haste.
Aventine had not crammed something like that ever since he dropped out of high school.
Luckily, with the <Archmagus> Daimyuon’s unfading knowledge in his mind, he had the foundations to create one of the first Light Spells in existence.
Using <Absolute Awareness>, <Perfect Estimate>, and the blood of the <Wyrm With No Name>, he figured out the framework of a spell for transmitting knowledge across great distances.
Then, by using the time zones which were coincidentally moving from East to West, he threw his knowledge into the morning sky. Riding the first rays of sunlight, Aventine shot the knowledge of a Martial Art straight into Melia’s mind.
It was complete—a kind of completeness made possible only because of his Gift.
That was why Melia instantly assimilated all the information. Aventine had allowed his knowledge to seep into her muscles and bones directly, imprinting scars into her body that would guide the flow of mana.
’It was the least I could do.’
After all, he considered Melia a friend. Though he did steal her <Fate>, that was a separate matter. Discussing the ethics and morality of such a thing was meaningless to him.
Aventine had taken the <Sword of Light> simply because it was shiny.
Whether Melia would have become a child soldier or died at the hands of demons within the kingdom had not been in his considerations when taking the hero’s Fated blade.
Now, Aventine had given her a gift not out of a guilty conscience but simply because he could and because he wanted to.
Let other considerations be damned.
’To be fair, watching her awaken the <Indomitable Human Spirit> was indeed a shock. This piece of information is similarly worth more than the worm’s mana reserves. What the heck?’
Attempting to use his gift to seek answers instantly drained him and the <Wyrm With No Name> of mana.
—[ AHHHHH YOU FUUUUU—IIIIIIIINGGGG— BASTAAAAAA— ]
The wyrm’s intermittent screams blasted endlessly in his ears.
—[ I CURSE YOUR INCOMPETENCE. YOU ARE LESS THAN AN UNUSED TISSUE ON THE FLOOR OF A SHIT-STAINED BATHROOM. YOU CAN’T EVEN CLEAN A LITTLE BIT OF SLICK SHIT. ]
—[ FIRST, YOU TAKE MY BLOOD. THEN YOU USE ME LIKE A BATTERY. WHAT THE HELL IS A BATTERY ANYWAY? WHAT KIND OF F***-A** WORLD ARE YOU FROM? ]
Profanity filled his mind.
—[ IF YOU WERE AS SKILLED AS A BRAINLESS SLIME AT SOLVING ELECTRODYNAMIC MANA EQUATIONS, YOU COULD’VE CAST THE DAMN SPELL WITHOUT MY BLOOD, YOU DAMNED DISAPPOINTMENT TO YOUR PARENTS. ]
So much profanity filled his mind.
The <Wyrm With No Name> had been listening to Aventine’s mutters and had understood that the young man wasn’t of this world. At first, the wyrm had assumed that this was Aventine’s deception.
However, he had come to accept it as an absurd truth... simply because it helped him soothe his shattered pride.
’If it is an Otherworlder, then there is no shame. I can transcend the bounds of this world with his help!’
Such was the wyrm’s rationalization.
Still, it did not mean that he would stop yelling profanity into Aventine’s mind.
Now that he also had access to Earth’s languages after using his own blood to learn them from the Otherworlder, he had expanded his repertoire of curses.
He screamed "f**k" in Bulgarian, German, French, Italian, Spanish, Hindi, Dutch, Croatian, Turkish, Romanian, Russian, and many more.
Whenever he regenerated a bit of mana, he roared a new curse. An insult he came up with while waiting for his mana to recharge.
It was taking up all of Aventine’s willpower to ignore the rampant trash talk.
Luckily, he could distract himself with the possibility of obtaining a new <Trait>.
After discovering that humans had their own racial <Trait> through Melia, a part of that knowledge had been unravelled.
Now, it was a lot easier for him to peer into its secrets.
’Even I have the capacity to awaken the <Indomitable Human Spirit>.’
However, that meant facing unbelievable hardship and facing death with an unwavering conviction.
’And my gift makes that difficult.’
Since he was basically aware of everything he put his mind to, it was hard to encounter a situation where all hope seemed lost.
He would know when all hope was lost... And at that point, he could only give up.
"Wait, no..."
The <Indomitable Human Spirit> was made to overcome the impossible.
’Does this mean that my gift makes it easier instead?’
Aventine blinked in realization.
All he had to do was throw himself into an impossible situation and still move forward. Seemed easy, no?
It was! Or was it?
Well, it was easier to look for danger than to stay out of it.
Aventine had been avoiding danger at every turn ever since he appeared in this world and gained access to mana.
If he threw caution to the wind and decided to court death—
Well!
’That sounds like fun.’
All he had to do was break Death’s heart, awakening the <Indomitable Human Spirit> and taking back the life he’d used like a bouquet.
"... Hmmmm,"
Somehow, Aventine was caught in indecision.
"Well, I can just save it for later."
Saying this, he stretched his body.
It was already close to midday, and he had an adventurer party to meet for the sake of acting as a guide and navigating the Skeleton King’s Crypt.
Thus.
Aventine cleaned his desk, storing the mess all in his <Sub-Dimensional Ruby Ring> and organizing it there.
He then freshened up, took a ride to Hau’goth’s shop, and walked into a room filled with appetizing scents.
His stomach grumbled.
"...Hello, Hau." Aventine walked up to the counter and waved at the chef working in the open kitchen. "Can I get a Greater Winged-Boar Steak and some of today’s selection of pastries?"
A cheerful laugh resounded. The minotaur adjusted the glasses on his face and patted off the flour on his hands.
He turned to Aventine with a grin.
"A steak for today, huh? Is it because you’ve become an adventurer who has to go around all day?"
Shaking his head, Hau’goth snapped his fingers and summoned a wave of magic.
Various pots, pans, and fresh ingredients floated over while the bread he’d been working on was moved elsewhere.
"Give me twenty minutes. Find a seat while waiting."
Aventine’s mouth watered at the scent of everything wafting over.
’Hopefully, the adventurer party, Very Sighed, won’t mind.’
He was a little hungry after skipping breakfast.
