Looking at the impending clash between Very Sighed and the Undead Quadridine, I felt my lips twitch involuntarily.

Didn’t I just tell them that the swords were enchanted? Of course, I knew what enchantments they had, but I swear to god I warned them.

Why did Ghush and Pulvir still charge in like that?

The leader wasn’t as rational and calm as I thought.

I couldn’t help but sigh.

Wait... sigh?

Was that the reason why they named themselves that?

—BOOM!

"Leader!"

Just as I expected, the adventurer party instantly met with difficulty.

—[Hear me, O’ ever-present vitality of the world! Embrace my wounded comrade!]

A steady stream of vitality poured into Pulvir’s body, mending his burns as he raised his gauntlet shields to meet the Quadridine’s swords.

Fire and Earth enchantments collaborated to create magma, deforming the surroundings and creating a disadvantage for both sides.

Clearly, the Quadridine had used this ability better when it was alive, most likely using fire-resistant artifacts to protect itself. Now that it was an Undead, however, it retained that habit yet no longer wielded the corresponding countermeasures.

Kirivan did not consider this phenomenon, as it seemed like he had obtained this skeleton after constructing the crypt.

The enchantments he’d left behind had acted on their own, turning this prospective adventurer into one of Kirivan’s undead subjects.

The Quadridine Skeleton had submerged its own legs into magma, rapidly melting through its bones and rendering it immobile.

Unfortunately, both Pulvir and Ghush could no longer approach it.

Their earlier bravado became an embarrassment.

Shima and Quince laughed.

"Let us take care of this then." Quince stepped forward and began casting his spell.

Seeing the long-range attackers make a move, Li’lsuo tilted her head in thought before she resumed her shamanistic healing. From her surface thoughts, she also considered joining in on the assault.

However, she displayed a measure of restraint and continued to do her job for the sake of future battles.

[Fire Pillar]!

—VWHOOM!

Erupting from the blazing magma, Quince made use of the already-present fire-attributed mana to fuel his spell.

A pillar devoured the Undead Quadridine from below, burning through what was left of its enchanted armor and clothes.

On the other hand, Shima had unslung her bow.

"Haaaaah,"

With a breath, her focus encompassed the entire room.

Then, with an extremely sharp burst of mana, her arrow shot through the air.

—Bang!

Before the arrow could complete its purpose, the Quadridine had wordlessly swung its Wind Sword. A blade coated in sharp winds intercepted the mana-infused arrow.

Then, the Fire Sword sliced through the rising <Fire Pillar>, absorbing its strength before any heavy damage could be dealt.

—KIEEEEKIKIKIKIE!

A terrifying laugh once again resounded from within the Quadridine’s skull. The crimson flames in its eye sockets danced with gleeful disdain.

Hm.

That didn’t look good.

"Dodge!" I yelled out and lifted myself into the air.

—VWHOOOOOOM!

A raging firestorm was conjured with two terrifying slashes. The Wind Sword cut through from above while the Fire Sword met its trajectory from below.

Together, their effects multiplied.

"Damn it!"

Ghush grunted as he positioned himself in front of the group.

[Bloody Gleam]!

[Boiling Crimson]!

"GRAAAAAAAH!"

The berserker’s muscles bulged as his entire body began glowing a deep shade of crimson. The greatsword in his hands was primed behind him.

"QUINCE, NOW!"

With a roar, Ghush stomped forward. Then, he swung.

Suddenly.

[Weight Manipulation: Enhancement]

Ghush’s sword suddenly weighed several tonnes.

"BREAKKK!"

—BOOM!

Ghush turned his slash into a terrifying spin before launching his blade through the firestorm.

It spun, creating a miniature tornado that sucked the flames into its core before blasting through.

Then, it sliced through the air, carrying a terrifying weight. At the end of its flight path was the Quadridine Skeleton.

—Gggrack.

In the end, after a brief resistance, the Quadridine Skeleton’s bones were shattered by the berserker’s blade.

Its upper body was bisected, leaving four limbs intact.

[Frost]!

A wave of cold spread outwards in a wave.

"HUUUUURRRRRRRAAAAAA!"

Just as the skeleton’s skull hit the ground, Pulvir came flying in. The magma around the undead had been cooled into stone and obsidian by Quince’s magic.

—Crack.

The dwarven tower shield smashed the skull into pieces.

[Ignite].

And the skeleton was set aflame after losing control over its own mana.

A splendid fight, in my opinion.

Though, of course, it could’ve been done without any injuries. But what was life without imperfections?

Perhaps that was something Ghush and Pulvir understood better than I did.

** *

Listening to the burning skeleton crackle, I lifted the invisibility of <Power of Death> and reappeared before the members of Very Sighed.

"The next rooms will be a bunch of cannon fodder.... But we’re gonna be surrounded soon if we don’t move."

I looked at the door we passed through, allowing my vision to pierce the walls behind it.

There, I saw a veritable hoard of Undead.

’Unfortunately, the <Power of Death> truly doesn’t encompass Necromancy.>

Becoming an Elder Lich or something sounded fun.

Alas, I do enjoy the pleasures of mortality. An Undead’s life lacked the chemical joys of thrilling life-and-death situations.

They were too rational.

I enjoyed the irrationality I had as a human being too much to sacrifice it for such a life.

’If I can’t find a way to extend my life, perhaps I will give it a try.’

I did not want to die before reaching the pinnacle of my Gift.

If I did...

—Shiver.

’Just thinking about it sends chills down my spine...’

I still saw it every time I fell asleep.

That grey wall of infinite vastness bearing the words of my role in existence.

My death would not be just death.

It would be something far worse than what any mortal mind could comprehend.

The price of failing [Omniscience] was steep.

Hence, I had to keep moving. All the time. Even if my motivations must be rooted in chaos...

I refused to become stagnant.

The alternative was simply too terrifying, so I needed a way to cope.

’...Hopefully this Info-Hunter thing can keep me going...’

I needed a way to pursue my goals while still maintaining what I liked about being human. The joys of one’s humanity...

Ah, perhaps I will miss these days in the far future.
