Upon waking the next morning, Cera began compressing her mana back into her body, now that she had restored it during her sleep. Her hope was that the second person to need healing wouldn’t require such extensive work as the first, but she still wanted to maximize how much mana she had when she left.
She then headed into the living room, and seeing that Falron was still asleep, sat down, focusing within herself as she had done so often. As she waited for her mentor to awaken, she resumed work on mending her spirit, continuing the unending process.
Eventually, Falron’s door creaked as he entered the living room, and Cera stood up, heading for the kitchen. Breakfast didn’t take too long to make before she returned to the living room. Not long after, the two finished their meal, and Cera once again headed for the kitchen, this time to clean and replace the dishes.
As she sat back down, Cera shared what she’d done the prior day, remarking that she needed to find a better solution to infections at some point, and that she hoped today’s work wouldn’t involve any. Hearing her words, Falron simply shrugged before remarking that he was never good with healing, and perhaps she could learn once she got accepted by the healer’s guild.
While they spoke, Cera continued to transfer more mana from her energetic systems directly into her body, ensuring that she was constantly regenerating it instead of letting it sit at maximum. After some time, she said farewell and began her trip into the village for the day.
As she’d said before, she first stopped by the elder’s home, checking if there was anyone new in need of healing. Once she’d verified no one new needed assistance, she headed toward the second person’s home, hoping that this time wouldn’t use up everything she had.
Shortly afterward, she arrived and knocked on the door. This time, Cera was surprised to see the injured person themself opening the door, a large gash on their upper arm clearly visible. Fortunately, it appeared to have been tended to well, and was even sewn shut.
After introducing herself and stating that she was there to help with healing, Cera entered the house, set her staff by the door, and moved to the living room with the young woman. A short discussion followed, since Cera wasn’t rushing to get the wound dealt with immediately, and she learned that the woman had been out in the woods and tripped into an incredibly sharp broken rock.
Cera found this somewhat suspicious, but simply shrugged, as it didn’t really matter to her. After examining the wound for a moment, she decided that it was going to be relatively simple to heal, far easier than the prior day. Informing the woman that it would cost one steel, with the price being reduced, Cera found the woman easily agreeing.
“As long as there isn’t a trace when my father gets back home next week, that’s all I care about!” she exclaimed, adding, “I’m not sure how long it would take to heal without assistance.”
Nodding, Cera simply stated, “I can make sure it is fully healed by the time I leave today, so there is nothing to worry about.”
Internally, Cera found herself wondering if the rock was merely an excuse, since it seemed like she was trying to hide that she’d gotten hurt, but she didn’t dwell on it for long, as it didn’t matter to her. Instead, she had the woman get comfortable in a chair as she stood beside her and saturated the wound with her own mana, carefully infiltrating the woman’s mana flows.
As she’d expected, it was a bit of a deep wound, and didn’t seem like something a rock would cause, given how clean the cut was, but that simply made it easier to heal. Around an hour later, she finished her work, then condensed a blade of ice to help with removing the stitches that were no longer needed.
After the woman thanked and paid her, Cera nodded to her and left, still wondering what had actually happened to cause the wound. She considered taking a trip to meet with the first patient again, since she still had a fair bit of mana left, but she had said that she wouldn’t be visiting today, and didn’t want to go against what she’d said already.
Instead, Cera took a moment to move most of her remaining mana into her flesh before beginning her trip back to the home she shared with Falron. Along the way back, she encountered a wolf along the edge of the forest, whom she waved to as she kept an eye on it, watching it warily move back into the woods.
“Always did like you all,” she muttered under her breath as she watched it leave.
She’d known for a long time now that wolves were unlikely to be a threat even to a lone traveler as long as they were neither scared nor starved. Instead, she simply enjoyed the peaceful encounter.
Not long after, she arrived back home, dropped her illusion, and shared what had happened during the day, including her wolf sighting. Falron seemed unsurprised about the wolf as well, remarking that he’d seen quite a few in the area over the years, and had never had any issues with them, save for them stealing a little food he’d left outside one time.
While the two relaxed inside, Cera decided to resume her work on her spirit, but also took a moment to grab her comb to brush her tail as she worked. An hour or two later, she stopped, put the comb away again, and headed into the kitchen to prepare food.
As Cera worked on the food, she took a moment to be thankful for her foxfire, which let her maintain steady heat, unlike a wood fire, even if it was tiring to keep it going both long and intensely enough. A short while later, she brought out food for both of them, with a little bit of steak to celebrate having made nearly half a copper over the last two days.
Once they finished, Cera took care of the dishes again before heading to bed, wanting to get as much rest as she could before trying to heal bone damage tomorrow. She dumped all her mana into her body again, then crawled into bed and hugged her tail as she drifted off to sleep.
During her sleep, she found herself plagued by nightmares of what seemed to be goblins attacking the village while she was there, and her own death at their hands. She woke twice overnight due to the dreams, finding herself quite disturbed, as they felt exactly like prophetic dreams in her prior life.
The next day, however, turned out to be quite boring. After sharing breakfast with Falron and storing more mana within herself, she headed to the village. Finding no new requests for healing, she went back to her first patient and spent several hours accelerating the regeneration of their bone, then had an uneventful trip back home and a quiet dinner.
