The banquet hall gradually filled as the last of the gifts were exchanged.

Julian had reserved a table in the corner for Luca, Noah, and Caleb, giving the old roommates a quiet place to catch up.

Noah leaned back in his chair with a grin.

"Hey, bro, Daniel was saying in the group chat that your girlfriend’s gorgeous. Why haven’t you brought her around to meet us?"

Caleb immediately joined in.

"Exactly. At least introduce your sister-in-law. We need to make sure she’s worthy of our brother."

In their minds, Luca was handsome, successful, and clearly doing well for himself. The woman by his side had to be someone exceptional.

Besides, as his closest friends, they didn’t want to accidentally walk past her one day without realizing who she was.

Luca casually reached for the bowl of mixed nuts, popped a few into his mouth, and asked without looking up,

"Which one?"

The table fell silent.

Noah blinked.

"Which one? Don’t tell me you’ve got several girlfriends."

Luca finished the last nut, dusted off his hands, leaned back, and replied as calmly as if he were discussing the weather.

"I’m just giving you two a heads-up. Work hard after graduation. Otherwise, when it’s time for weddings and funerals, one or two red envelopes won’t be enough to cover what I’ll be giving."

Caleb pointed at him dramatically.

"Damn, look at this guy. Someone needs to humble him."

Noah burst into laughter.

"Listen to him! He says it with such confidence that I almost believe him."

Watching the two idiots gang up on him, Luca couldn’t help smiling.

Some friendships never changed.

They’d shared a dorm room for four years, fought over food, stayed up all night gaming, crammed before exams, and survived college together. Even after years apart, the conversation picked up as if no time had passed.

Back then, none of them had much money.

Life had been tight, but they had laughed more than enough to make up for it.

Of course, life wasn’t exactly miserable now either.

Having more money than he could reasonably spend certainly had its advantages.

What was better than financial freedom?

The three continued joking around until more guests began arriving.

Not long afterward, Julian walked over with seven or eight classmates.

He stopped beside their table with a broad smile.

"These faces don’t need introductions, do they?"

"Haha, definitely not."

Noah was the first to stand.

"We spent four years together. We’d recognize each other anywhere."

Everyone found seats as the conversation resumed almost instantly.

Caleb glanced around.

"Boss, where’s the old class advisor?"

For him, that teacher had been more than an instructor.

During postgraduate entrance exam preparations, he’d nearly given up several times. If not for the advisor’s patient guidance and encouragement, he probably wouldn’t have made it.

Julian laughed.

"Relax. He’s on the way."

Just then, a familiar voice interrupted.

"Luca... long time no see."

It was Ivy Celeste, their former class rep.

Despite several empty seats, she deliberately chose the one beside Luca.

He simply nodded.

"Long time."

She smiled warmly, but his response remained polite and distant.

Naturally, everyone’s attention drifted toward them.

During university, rumors had spread that Ivy liked Luca.

Now, seeing the class beauty sitting beside the class heartthrob again, it was hard not to look.

Some people couldn’t help wondering if Luca was simply too dense to notice.

Daniel, however, wasn’t surprised in the slightest.

He’d already met Luca’s girlfriends.

Not just one.

Every single one of them outshone Ivy, whether in beauty, background, or presence. Compared to them, the class beauty didn’t stand much of a chance.

With Noah steering the conversation, the atmosphere quickly became lively again.

It became even livelier when the academic advisor finally arrived.

The first person to rush over was Caleb, who nearly hugged the elderly man.

Luca hadn’t interacted with the advisor nearly as much during university, but seeing the man’s noticeably grayer hair still stirred something inside him.

Time really did pass too quickly.

The advisor smiled the moment he spotted him.

"Luca. You’re just as handsome as you were back then."

It wasn’t an exaggeration.

Throughout university, Luca had been recognized as one of the most handsome students on campus. Some newly hired female lecturers had even discreetly asked other teachers about him.

That alone spoke volumes.

Unfortunately, he was rarely seen outside class.

If he wasn’t attending lectures, he was out tutoring or working part-time.

Dating had never even crossed his mind.

Luca chuckled.

"I’ll take that as a compliment."

"I meant every word." The advisor smiled. "So... have you found someone?"

"I have."

Luca nodded.

"When I get married, you’re coming."

The advisor laughed heartily.

"Then I’d better stay healthy until that day."

Standing quietly nearby, Ivy lowered her head.

So... he’d already reached the point of talking about marriage.

A faint regret crept into her heart.

If she’d gathered the courage back then...

Would the woman standing beside him today have been her?

Still...

As long as he wasn’t married yet...

Did she still have a chance?

Soon, every seat in the banquet hall was occupied.

The wedding ceremony officially began.

Watching Julian and Evelyn exchange vows on stage, Luca quietly lifted his glass.

To everyone else, they looked like an ordinary newlywed couple.

Only he knew how many obstacles they’d overcome to get here.

When they first started dating, almost no one believed the relationship would last.

Many had insisted Evelyn would eventually leave.

Yet here they were.

Married.

He drained his glass in one swallow.

’Congratulations, Boss.’

’You finally married the woman who insisted on marrying you.’

Halfway through the banquet, Luca excused himself to use the restroom.

On his way back, he happened to pass a quiet corner near one of the side halls.

Two middle-aged women were chatting loudly enough for anyone nearby to hear.

"I honestly don’t understand it," one scoffed. "The Hayes family’s daughter is beautiful, educated, and accomplished. Why would she marry someone like him?"

Her companion nodded immediately.

"Exactly. Look at this hotel. It doesn’t even have a star rating. Even the wedding convoy was nothing special. There’s no prestige at all."

"I heard the groom isn’t even from San Fierro." The first woman curled her lip. "Just look at what his relatives are wearing. You can tell they’re country people trying to marry into money."

The other woman laughed.

"If my daughter ever brought home a man like that, I’d throw her out myself."

Luca’s expression darkened.

He genuinely couldn’t understand people like this.

What business was someone else’s marriage to them?

They were guests at a wedding, yet all they could do was criticize the bride and groom behind their backs.

Still, he had no intention of confronting them.

Today belonged to Julian and Evelyn.

Starting an argument here would only embarrass the newlyweds.

He’d simply remind Julian later to keep an eye on those relatives.

Just as he turned to leave, another voice rang out.

It was deep, calm, and edged with restrained anger.

"I invited you here to celebrate my daughter’s wedding."

"So why are you sitting here criticizing everything instead?"

Luca looked over.

The speaker was a tall, thin man in his fifties wearing glasses.

His face had gone pale with anger as he stared directly at the two women.

Although they’d never met before, Luca immediately recognized him.

Evelyn’s father.

One of the women stood up awkwardly.

"Mr. Hayes, don’t misunderstand. We’re only saying this because we’re worried about your daughter."

She straightened her clothes before continuing.

"Just compare him with the man I introduced to Evelyn before. Sure, he was a little older..."

"But he came from a wealthy family. Now look at this. Your daughter doesn’t even have a proper house after getting married. What happens when they have children?"
