Infinite Cashback: My God-Tier Cashback System
Chapter 234: Uncontrollable ExcitementLuca Hale boarded the plane that had been arranged in advance and landed in New Orleans just before noon.
"Mr. Hale."
"Phoebe, Sir Gideon. Thanks for coming to pick me up again."
Waiting outside the airport were the same familiar faces, Phoebe Gates and the driver, Sir Gideon.
It had only been a few days since he’d left New Orleans.
Yet the moment he stepped back into the city, it felt strangely different, almost as if he had entered another world.
After loading his luggage into the Rolls-Royce, Phoebe turned around from the front passenger seat.
"Mr. Hale, where would you like to go first?"
Luca’s smile practically reached his ears.
"Let’s head to Hale-Viv Conglomerate."
His cheerful mood never faded throughout the drive.
Phoebe and Sir Gideon exchanged subtle glances.
When they’d received instructions to pick Luca up from the airport, both had assumed something serious had happened at Hale-Viv Conglomerate, forcing him to rush back to New Orleans.
Looking at his expression now, though, it was obvious they couldn’t have been more wrong.
Whatever had happened, it was clearly something worth celebrating.
Even so, neither of them asked.
One was Morgan Mertens’ secretary.
The other was Morgan’s personal driver.
As the people closest to Morgan, they knew exactly where the line was.
If the boss wanted to tell you something, he would.
If he didn’t, asking questions would only be inappropriate.
Luca, meanwhile, almost couldn’t hold it in anymore.
’Come on... someone ask me why I’m so happy.’
He’d practically written it all over his face.
Yet the two people in front remained completely silent.
Twenty minutes later, the Rolls-Royce pulled up in front of Hale-Viv Conglomerate’s headquarters.
"We’re here, Mr. Hale," Phoebe reminded him.
Luca seized the opportunity immediately.
With an exaggerated look of surprise, he asked,
"How did you know I’m going to be a father?"
His voice was so loud that it startled both Phoebe and Sir Gideon.
For a brief second, the two simply stared at him.
Then realization dawned.
So that was it.
Someone was pregnant.
Their faces immediately lit up.
"Congratulations, Mr. Hale!"
"Congratulations to Mrs. Hale!"
"Hahaha!"
Luca laughed heartily.
"Thank you. Congratulations to both of you too."
Finally saying it out loud made him feel much lighter.
"You don’t have to come pick me up this afternoon. I’ll have Morgan add a bonus to your salaries next month."
He paused halfway out of the car.
"...Actually, forget that."
He pulled out his phone.
"I’ll just transfer it now."
"Mr. Hale... that’s really not necessary..."
Two minutes later, both Phoebe and Sir Gideon lowered their heads to stare at the identical notifications on their phones.
[$5,000 received.]
They looked back at Luca’s retreating figure in complete disbelief.
All they’d done was congratulate him...
And they’d each received five thousand dollars.
For Phoebe, that was roughly two months’ salary.
For Sir Gideon, it was close to half a year’s pay.
Unlike their regular salaries, they wouldn’t even have to wait until payday.
The money had arrived instantly.
Neither of them knew whether to laugh or cry.
President Hale really did spend money without blinking.
...
As Luca stepped through the main entrance of Hale-Viv Conglomerate, a conversation between two patrolling security guards drifted over.
"Bro Tenpenny, how about we grab a few drinks tonight?"
Officer Tenpenny, tall and lean, kept his expression serious as he continued walking.
"We’re on duty. Stay focused. We can talk after work."
As captain of the company’s security team, Tenpenny always maintained high standards.
At work, he was strict and disciplined.
Off duty, though, he treated everyone like brothers.
Luca had seen him several times before and had always been impressed by his professionalism.
Grinning, he walked over.
"Mind if I join you tonight?"
"Sure, Ten..."
The younger guard instinctively agreed before freezing halfway through his sentence.
His eyes widened.
"P-President Hale!"
Tenpenny immediately stopped walking as well.
He wondered if Luca had overheard their conversation and come over to reprimand them.
Neither of them dared say another word.
Looking at their stiff expressions, Luca couldn’t help laughing.
"What happened? Weren’t you just talking about getting together for drinks? Why is everyone suddenly so quiet?"
The younger guard nearly burst into tears.
"M-Mr. Hale... I was wrong. Please punish me."
Tenpenny quickly stepped forward.
"President Hale, he’s still new. I’ll make sure he understands the rules."
Luca waved a hand.
"Oh, forget it."
"I was actually thinking of dropping by your table tonight."
With that, he headed toward the elevators.
Only after the doors closed did the younger guard finally breathe again.
His face had gone completely pale.
"Brother Tenpenny... am I getting fired?"
He genuinely didn’t want to lose this job.
Hale-Viv Conglomerate offered excellent pay, generous holidays, year-end bonuses, and outstanding benefits.
He’d hoped to work here until retirement.
The more he thought about it, the more he regretted opening his mouth.
’Couldn’t I have waited until after work to talk about drinking?’
’Why did I have to bring it up while we were on patrol?’
It really was asking for trouble.
Tenpenny rolled his eyes.
"President Hale never said he was firing you."
"If anything, he looked like he was genuinely interested in joining us."
After more than ten years in society since leaving the military, he’d become fairly good at reading people.
The younger guard’s eyes lit up.
"You really think he wasn’t angry?"
"I’m only guessing."
Tenpenny patted him on the shoulder.
"But take it as a lesson."
...
When Luca reached the secretariat, voices drifted through the partially opened door.
"Cecelia, why are you still reading documents?" a young woman complained. "Didn’t I tell you to take a break?"
"There are only a few files left."
Without looking up, Cecelia continued reviewing the papers in her hands.
"I’ll go eat once I finish these."
Roseline sighed helplessly.
"Cecelia... you’re pregnant..."
"Shh!"
Cecelia hurriedly covered Roseline’s mouth before she could finish.
Lowering her voice, she whispered,
"Didn’t I tell you not to say that so loudly?"
"What if everyone in the company hears you?"
If the baby’s father had been anyone else, perhaps it wouldn’t have mattered.
But the father was Luca.
The president of Hale-Viv Conglomerate.
Back when she worked as one of Gordon Luiz’s secretaries, plenty of employees at headquarters had known her.
They also knew she’d once been married.
That alone wasn’t a problem.
What worried her was the gossip that would follow if people discovered she’d become pregnant with the president’s child.
She didn’t care what others thought of her.
But she cared deeply about Luca’s reputation.
The last thing she wanted was for him to become the subject of unnecessary rumors because of her.
