Infinite Cashback: My Wealth Rebate System
Chapter 6 | Zero Women, One KnockJason’s gaze lingered on the daily quest for a long while. Twenty push-ups. Twenty sit-ups. Twenty squats. A two-kilometer run. He read it once, then again, and the more he looked at it, the less it resembled a daily quest and the more it looked like a carefully planned assassination attempt.
"You’ve got to be kidding me."
He instinctively looked down at his own arms. They were average, not skinny enough to snap in half, but nowhere near athletic either. They were the kind of arms that carried grocery bags without complaint but started negotiating with God the moment a gym membership entered the conversation.
He couldn’t even remember the last time he’d exercised. College had been nothing but classes, assignments, Amanda, and finding excuses to postpone every promise he’d ever made to himself.
"I’ll start next week"
"I’ll wait until exams are over"
"I’ll begin next month"
Those promises had quietly piled up over the years, gathering dust alongside everything else he never got around to doing. Now the system expected him to complete all four exercises in a single day.
Jason let out a dry laugh
"I’m pretty sure my muscles are going to file a police report"
Still, his eyes remained on the quest, and something didn’t add up. He had watched enough fitness videos during his countless "I’m going to change my life" phases to know one thing, twenty push-ups weren’t enough to build an impressive physique, neither were twenty squats or twenty sit-ups, and even the two-kilometer run wasn’t particularly extraordinary.
His gym-going classmates trained for hours, lifting weights that looked heavy enough to bend reality itself. Compared to that, this looked almost underwhelming.
"How is this supposed to change anything?"
As if responding to the question forming inside his mind, a soft chime sounded and a new notification quietly unfolded.
[Host is correct.]
[Current daily training is insufficient to produce a remarkable physique in the short term]
Jason blinked
"Well. At least you’re honest."
The system continued.
[Consistency produces transformation]
[Complete Daily Growth Quest consecutively for 2 days]
[Special Reward: Locked]
[Reward details unavailable until completion]
Jason stared at the final line ’locked’ no explanation, no hint, nothing.
"Seriously? You can’t even tell me what it is?"
Silence answered him, the system offering no further response, and instead his imagination immediately began filling in the blanks. A unique physique? Superhuman strength? Some ridiculous ability straight out of a novel? He had no idea, and somehow that made him want it even more.
A smile slowly crept onto his face. It was strange, yesterday he’d struggled to find a reason to get out of bed, and today a mysterious reward hidden behind two years of discipline had sparked something inside him that he hadn’t felt in a long time. Anticipation.
"If this thing is actually real"
He looked around the apartment his tiny apartment, his empty wallet, his painfully average life. Maybe none of them had to stay that way forever. He exhaled slowly before nodding to himself.
"Alright. I’ll trust you. It doesn’t cost me anything to try. And if this turns out to be real then this might be the biggest opportunity I’ll ever get."
His eyes drifted toward another section of the interface.
Registered Women: 0.
"Right. I almost forgot."
He focused on the line.
"What exactly does ’registered’ mean?"
Almost immediately, a chime sounded again.
[Before receiving Wealth Rebates, the Host must register female targets]
[Only registered women are eligible to generate rebates]
[A woman’s current attraction toward the Host determines the rebate multiplier]
Jason nodded slowly.
"Okay. That actually makes sense."
If every woman automatically counted, the system would’ve been absurdly overpowered this at least forced him to make choices. His eyes remained on the empty number beside Registered Women, and then a thought quietly surfaced.
"There’s just one small problem."
He scratched the back of his head before letting out an awkward laugh.
"I don’t actually know any girl who’s attracted to me that is if someone like that even exists in the first place"
The apartment fell silent. Jason stared at the screen. The screen stared back.
"Well."
He rubbed his face with both hands.
"I guess step one is finding a woman who doesn’t see me as free customer support."
For the first time that day, he genuinely laughed not because something was particularly funny, but because the situation somehow managed to be both depressing and ridiculously hilarious at the same time.
Jason had barely finished laughing at himself when two soft knocks landed against his apartment door. They weren’t loud. Whoever was outside hadn’t knocked with the confidence of someone trying to get his attention if anything, it sounded almost polite, as though they weren’t entirely sure anyone was home.
Jason instinctively turned toward the door, his brows furrowing.
"Who?"
No one ever visited him. Well, almost no one. He had two close friends from college, the only people who occasionally came over, and even then, after a particularly embarrassing incident involving an unwashed apartment and a week’s worth of instant noodle cups, he’d made them promise to text him before showing up. Neither of them had messaged today.
The same gentle rhythm echoed again, and curiosity slowly replaced his confusion. Jason walked toward the door and leaned forward, peering through the small peephole.
His eyes widened in the realisation of who he saw standing behind his door
"Sarah?"
He instinctively stepped back from the door, and for a brief moment his brain simply stopped working. Sarah? Here? At his apartment? She had never been here before in fact, she shouldn’t even know where he lived.
He’d never told her his room number
"How did she even find this place?"
Before he could think any further, the knocking came again, and this time her soft voice followed.
"Jason? Are you home?"
His heart skipped for reasons he couldn’t quite explain. It wasn’t fear. It wasn’t excitement either. It was panic, the kind that only appeared when something happened so unexpectedly that your brain started opening every possible tab at once.
A girl is outside my room. Why is she here? Did something happen? Should I let her in? His eyes instinctively swept across the apartment. Thankfully, it wasn’t the disaster it usually became. The flower petals were still scattered near the table, his phone was lying on the floor where he’d dropped it, a few things were out of place, but compared to his usual standard it was practically luxurious. Still, his palms had already begun sweating.
Jason let out a slow breath.
"Relax. She’s probably here for something important. There’s no way she’d come all the way up here otherwise."
After another deep breath, he reached for the handle and pulled the door open.
"Huh?"
The hallway was empty. Jason blinked in confusion before leaning his head outside, and only then did he spot Sarah halfway down the staircase, already making her way back downstairs.
"Sarah!"
She stopped almost immediately and turned around, and the moment she saw him standing in the doorway, a relieved smile spread across her face.
"Oh. There you are. I was starting to think you weren’t home."
Jason scratched the back of his head awkwardly.
"Sorry, um... I was washing the dishes"
The excuse left his mouth before he even thought about it. Sarah simply nodded, not even a hint of annoyance in her expression, and instead she climbed the stairs at an unhurried pace until she stood a few steps away from him. For a second, neither of them spoke the silence wasn’t uncomfortable, just unexpected.
Sarah glanced past him, then back at his face.
"Can I come in?"
Jason’s brain short-circuited. A girl wants to come into my apartment? His thoughts froze for exactly two seconds before survival instincts finally kicked back in.
"O-Oh. Yeah. Of course."
He hurriedly stepped aside, making enough room for her to pass. Sarah smiled faintly as she walked past him and into the apartment as though it were the most natural thing in the world.
Jason remained standing by the doorway for another heartbeat, staring blankly at her back. Then he quietly closed the door.
Click.
The sound snapped him back to reality. A girl is actually inside my room. Jason swallowed.
"What the hell do I do now?"
