Chapter 60: Chapter 55: No Way to Live

Lianshui City Port.

At some point, the place had become completely deserted.

When Liu Shan, Wang Quan, and Zhang Ji arrived with several hundred disciples of the Five Elements Sect, they too realized something was wrong.

But in the next moment, figures clad in exoskeleton armor and holding firearms blocked their path.

"It’s a trap! Someone leaked the information!" Liu Shan immediately concluded.

Wang Quan glanced back. The expressions of the disciples in the crowd hadn’t changed. He then looked at Zhang Ji. The information had come from Zhang Ji, and he was the only one who had escaped...

But on second thought, he felt it was impossible.

If Zhang Ji had betrayed the Five Elements Sect, with his inside knowledge, he would have had many better and more direct ways to deal with them. He wouldn’t have needed to go to all this trouble. He could have just not delivered the message at all and waited for them to gather all their disciples before wiping them out in one fell swoop.

’So, have the officials been watching us from the very beginning, with countermeasures already prepared?’

"Fire!" Xiong Mingxu ordered.

In the next instant, muzzles flared.

"Take cover!" Wang Quan yelled.

At the same time, he and Liu Shan shot forward, charging the group of gunmen.

Zhang Ji charged out at the same time.

The three Grandmasters reached the crowd in the blink of an eye.

Wang Quan swung the cane in his hand. With every tap, a firearm was destroyed, and two men were killed in the process.

Liu Shan’s movements were nimble. He executed his perfected Crane Form Fist to its fullest potential, sweeping away two armored men with a wave of his hand and destroying their muzzles.

Zhang Ji, for his part, was even faster. His figure flickered several times among the gunmen, and a dozen men fell to the ground, showing no visible wounds.

Just then, four figures in special armor appeared at high speed.

Their speed was shockingly no less than that of Wang Quan and Liu Shan.

BANG!

Liu Shan traded a palm strike with an approaching opponent and stumbled back several steps. "A Grandmaster?" he said in surprise. "But they’re not with the officials!"

Wang Quan, on his side, also exchanged a blow with a Grandmaster.

"This Yuan Qi! The Xian Mountain Sect!"

Xiong Mingxu charged at Zhang Ji. The armor he wore was rather unique; it was still in the experimental phase and hadn’t even been painted, leaving it entirely pitch-black.

This armor was named [Zhenxian].

As its name implied, it was an armored weapon capable of suppressing terrestrial immortals.

The only reason Xiong Mingxu was allowed to wear it this time was because his superiors wanted to use this opportunity to test its performance data; otherwise, it never would have been entrusted to him.

Even so, Xiong Mingxu hadn’t been equipped with any of its associated weapon systems.

He only had the armor itself.

But that was enough.

The armor’s various enhancements to the user were alone enough to counter any Grandmaster.

Strength, reflexes, and speed.

Once the armor was equipped, these three attributes of the wearer would be enhanced to a considerably powerful level.

Tossing a one or two-ton car with one hand was a simple task, and running at the speed of a high-speed train was no problem either.

Its reaction speed was even more absurd, reportedly reaching the microsecond level.

Although there was some delay between reaction and physical movement, it could still achieve a striking speed of hundreds of attacks per second.

Zhang Ji originally had his back to Xiong Mingxu, but he suddenly seemed to sense something, immediately twisting around and blasting a palm strike out with his left arm.

CRACK!

BOOM!

The air cracked and a tremendous explosion rang out. Zhang Ji used the force of the impact to retreat, his toes tapping the ground as lightly as a Spiritual Crane’s as he slid some distance away before steadying himself.

Xiong Mingxu’s body wasn’t thrown back by the recoil. His armor was sufficiently heavy and equipped with special gripping technology, allowing the force of the impact to be easily dispersed, absorbed, and transferred into the ground.

Bending his knees slightly, Xiong Mingxu shot forward, a tiny speck of red light flickering in his palm.

This wasn’t one of the armor’s attack functions; it was his Yuan Qi.

Facing the charging Xiong Mingxu, Zhang Ji frowned slightly. He didn’t yet know the identity of the person inside the armor, but he could sense that this suit was stronger than any he had encountered before.

In an instant, Zhang Ji entered the Spirit Crane Stance, maxing out his reaction speed and perception.

Then, he struck, his hand colliding with his opponent’s palm.

A heavy feeling came from the pitch-black metal armor, and the power it unleashed was beyond imagination. At the same time, a searing stream of Yuan Qi traveled along the armor, attempting to enter Zhang Ji’s body. The intensity of this Yuan Qi far surpassed that of any enemy Zhang Ji had ever fought before. However, Zhang Ji was different now, too. A single surge of the vast Qi and Blood within him easily washed it away.

Immediately after, the muscles on Zhang Ji’s body trembled rapidly. With a pivot of his foot, he used a snake-like form to dissipate the force, redirecting it to the side.

However, just as Zhang Ji redirected his opponent’s palm, it struck at him again, moving in a way that defied human biomechanics.

BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG BANG!

The two exchanged blows at high speed, their hands moving so fast they left afterimages. The collisions continuously cracked the air, producing a deafening roar that forced the surrounding disciples below the Grandmaster Level to retreat.

...

「Capital City. In a conference room.」

Several people were observing the scene.

Among them were three council members—Lin Kang, Yin Daiyu, and Xiao Ning—as well as the lead scientist behind the [Zhenxian] armor.

"The performance data is so much stronger than during testing. For an ordinary person wearing the armor, there are too many variables, and its full capabilities can’t be utilized. If we hand control to an AI system, the lack of data makes its responses too rigid. It also lacks certain techniques, lowering its performance ceiling... As expected, only a martial artist can truly bring out the armor’s full potential. We have to expand the scale of our combat training initiative. All those confiscated martial arts manuals can be put to good use..." the lead scientist said, a look of delight on his face.
