His wound was seared again and again, sizzling while sending excruciating pain through Zhang Wenda.

But right now, there wasn't a trace of fear on Zhang Wenda's face. Especially after seeing how sensitive she was to his uncle's name, he felt the inscrutable woman before him was no longer so mysterious.

He tilted his head back to look at Crow and said with a grin, "Auntie, I'd advise you not to kill me. If you did, my uncle would haunt you for the rest of your life."

As the dazzling sun once again sank into the Bird's Nest, a high-heeled foot kicked at Zhang Wenda's face, but he dodged it with nimble agility and no hesitation.

"Auntie, if you don't agree to my terms, I'm not leaving. You're the one who invited me, so you have to take responsibility." Calling her "Auntie" came all too easily to him, and Zhang Wenda stood there, continuing to get on her last nerve.

Just as an enraged Tang Xingxiong was about to speak, a green data stream of 0s and 1s suddenly materialized between them. It rapidly coalesced, ultimately forming a computer-headed man wearing white gloves.

This computer-headed man was none other than Qianxi, the master of the entire Cavalry.

"What's going on here? Why are you two fighting? We're all on the same team. If you have something to say, say it nicely." A yellow smiley face appeared on Qianxi's computer-screen head, and his tone was that of a peacemaker.

Seeing him suddenly appear before her, Tang Xingxiong immediately reined in her expression. "Boss, this guy won't stop pestering me."

"Hm? Weren't you the one who invited him to join? Didn't you say you intended to recruit him for your department? So shouldn't he be pestering you?" A question mark appeared on Qianxi's screen.

"That's not it. He's the nephew of that idiot, Biao," Tang Xingxiong said testily, then gave him a quick rundown of the situation.

Once he understood the whole story, Qianxi let out a couple of tinny, canned laughs. "Don't bring your personal feelings into your work. He may be your ex-boyfriend's nephew, but you yourself said his talent is impressive. We can't let personal matters affect business."

"As for his loyalty, you can rest assured." As he spoke, Qianxi came over to Zhang Wenda and patted him a few times, making Zhang Wenda a bit tense.

"I can't speak for others, but I know the Zhang Family very well. From top to bottom, none of them are the type to follow rules. Starting with Elder Zhang on down, they could never get along with the people from the Third Line."

Zhang Wenda was surprised to hear this. "You knew my grandfather?"

A hint of nostalgia entered Qianxi's voice. "Yes, of course I knew him. When I was a child, whenever the bureau handed out treats for the New Year or other holidays, your grandfather always liked to tease me with them. Ah, so many years have passed without my noticing. It feels like only yesterday."

When he finished, his voice was tinged with melancholy. Zhang Wenda didn't know what to make of this person, but he could clearly hear the emotion in his words.

"Oh, right. How are your mom and dad?" Qianxi's words were like gasoline poured on a fire in Zhang Wenda's heart. The flames of his fury nearly burned right through him.

Zhang Wenda had to fight to suppress the rage in his heart, forcing himself to mutter, "They're fine."

"Your mom and I lived in adjacent family quarters. We'd fight every time we saw each other. See this scar on my neck? She's the one who bit me." Qianxi craned his neck, revealing a very faint set of small teeth marks. For the marks to have lasted this long, one could only imagine how deep the bite must have been.

"Your mother was a real piece of work, wasn't she? Always had to have the last word. A sharp tongue and a heart to match. It couldn't have been easy being her son, huh?"

Qianxi smiled and patted Zhang Wenda's shoulder, then turned to Tang Xingxiong. "We know his background. Let him join. Your progress on this side has been a little slow. I'll send a few more people over in addition to him. This needs to be completed as soon as possible."

Hearing this, Tang Xingxiong immediately snapped to attention. "Yes, Boss!"

But these words left Zhang Wenda deeply confused. 'What progress? What project?'

Just then, Qianxi casually clicked on Zhang Wenda's body a few times with a mouse cursor. Zhang Wenda's digital file materialized out of thin air and was instantly transferred under Tang Xingxiong's command.

This was the first time Zhang Wenda realized the Big Circle was actually managed digitally, and that they had created a file on him.

"Do your best, kid. I'm counting on you." Having finished his business, Qianxi vanished.

When he heard the master of the Cavalry say that, Zhang Wenda knew he was in the clear. Sure enough, when Tang Xingxiong turned to look at him, she was no longer trying to kick him out.

"I can recruit you, but get one thing straight. If you dare to pull any shady shit behind my back, don't blame me for turning on you!!"

As Zhang Wenda nodded eagerly, Tang Xingxiong leaned forward, poking him forcefully in the chest with each word.

"And another thing! You listen to me. I know who your parents are now. Which means if I want to find them, I can find them, anytime. If you dare step out of line, I will make your parents wish they were dead!"

Zhang Wenda froze for a second when he heard that. 'Holy shit? It's my lucky day?' he thought. Suddenly, his motivation to dig up intel was stronger than ever.

"Now, stand up straight! I'm giving you your first mission!"

Zhang Wenda immediately snapped to attention. "Yes, Boss!"

「Half an hour later.」 Zhang Wenda stood in the seawater, fishing branches out of the surf. All around him were people on skateboards, "digitally surfing."

'What does she mean, "my nest is short on branches," so I have to go fish for more? And they can't be shorter than fifty centimeters, not too thick, not too thin. Is she abusing her authority for personal revenge or what?' Zhang Wenda grumbled to himself as he fished for branches in the tides of the internet.

He had pointed out there were plenty of branches on the phoenix tree, but Tang Xingxiong insisted they had to be fished out of the waves. She claimed branches pulled from the sea were "hydrating to sleep on."

He pushed a drifting bottle away from his face and placed the branches he'd collected onto the kitty-cat boat beside him.

"Damn it... crazy... got nothing better to do..." Song Jianguo's muttering drifted from the waves nearby.

"Less talking, more working," Zhang Wenda yelled at her retreating back.

Luckily, they had Song Jianguo's cats. For this kind of group manual labor, her cats were a huge help.

"Put your backs into it! Once I complete this mission, it's one braised fish for every single one of you cats!" As Zhang Wenda made his promise, a chorus of meows erupted from across the waves.

Zhang Wenda knew Tang Xingxiong was just hazing him, but he didn't have time to waste. He had to find a way to get involved in her real projects.
