The plane was still shuddering violently, plummeting downward.

Zhang Wenda needed to find a way out of this desperate situation. But the mysterious power from Kopan seemed to have frozen his very thoughts, slowing his mind to a crawl.

The only thing he could do was raise his flashlight. A dazzling laser shot out, haphazardly carving an opening in the left side of the fuselage to give the others a chance to escape. "Go!"

Fortunately, he hadn’t brought a bunch of dead weight along. The others reacted with incredible speed.

With a push from Hu Maomao’s right hand, the gash in the plane—spraying blood—instantly widened to its maximum size. A powerful gale howled into the cabin.

Just then, a black cat-like rope shot out, looped around his neck, and yanked him from his seat. Song Jianguo, single-handedly carrying the white rabbit who was much taller than her, charged with all her might toward the howling gap.

In an instant, their situation changed: instead of being smashed into meat paste along with the plane, they would now be smashed into meat paste all by themselves.

As the world spun around him, Zhang Wenda’s vision suddenly stabilized, leaving him suspended in mid-air.

He looked up, trembling, to see Song Jianguo behind him. A Black Cat parachute was strapped to her back, and she was holding him tightly in the air, having pulled him clear of the crashing plane.

Frost was creeping up Song Jianguo’s arm, but she held on tight, refusing to let go.

"Good to know I didn’t spoil you for nothing. You’re getting a raise when we get back."

"Shut up."

As the cold continued to creep upward, the Black Cat parachute began to stiffen at an alarming rate. Their descent started to accelerate again.

Thankfully, it wasn’t long before the flying Hu Maomao reached them, carrying 2826 and Ahava.

However, when they saw Zhang Wenda was completely covered in frost, Hu Maomao and 2826 had no time for words. They immediately began casting the Yellow Core Spectral Curse.

As two yellow beams of light washed over Zhang Wenda’s body, the feeling of impending doom that gripped him finally began to fade.

The immediate crisis was over, but grim expressions remained on everyone’s faces.

They could save themselves, but not everyone on the plane. All they could do was watch helplessly as the massive aircraft, carrying hundreds of passengers, plunged toward the ground.

Of course, Zhang Wenda wanted to save them, but it was beyond his power.

The plane, bleeding from its side, was just moments from smashing into the ground, about to cause a massive disaster killing hundreds, if not thousands.

Just then, the sky suddenly went dark.

When everyone looked up, Zhang Wenda saw a colossal, winged serpent burst from the clouds. It was several kilometers long and covered in feathers.

As it passed over their heads, a primal fear of its immense size sent a shiver through Zhang Wenda’s body.

The moment the great serpent glided toward the stricken aircraft, its massive wings blotted out the sky like a shadow.

The scales on the colossal serpent’s body shimmered with iridescent light in the sun. It effortlessly coiled around the falling plane and gently set it on the ground, averting the disaster entirely.

The scene stunned nearly everyone present—everyone except Ahava. He touched the space between his eyebrows, repeatedly praising a god named Kukulkan.

Below, the serpent raised its head. It gave Zhang Wenda a look with its three-pupiled eyes before its body rapidly dematerialized, fading away on the spot.

"That’s Kukulkan, the Feathered Serpent of the Maya," 2826 told Zhang Wenda, relaying information they’d just looked up on their phone.

"The question isn’t who it is. The question is why their gods are real! And so huge, at that!" Zhang Wenda found it difficult to wrap his head around.

He knew things would be different abroad, but this was a little *too* different. They even had gods?!

Then again, when he remembered the Angel in the Angel Engine, it didn’t seem quite so surprising.

"Perhaps it’s just a cultural difference," Hu Maomao said as he controlled their slow descent.

As they continued to drift downward, 2826 finally found something else.

"The Mayans’ primary thought wave is Thought Wave Two, same as ours. But their version is different. It manifests things unique to their culture—like the gods they worship."

"So that colossal serpent is a god the Mayans worship?"

"Not just Kukulkan." 2826 put their phone away and looked at Zhang Wenda with concern. "There’s also Kopan."

Zhang Wenda’s heart sank at those words. After being plagued by it for so long, he finally knew what Kopan was. It looked like he had provoked something truly terrifying.

He’d thought that, at worst, he had merely broken one of the local thought wave’s rules, and that cracking the rule would solve the problem.

He never expected he had actually provoked a Mayan God.

If Kopan was as big as the Feathered Serpent God, then crushing them would be as easy as crushing an ant.

Song Jianguo couldn’t help but ask, "They have them, so why don’t we? It would be great to have Immortals."

"Our thought wave doesn’t have them. I mean, what century are we in? Who back home still believes in that outdated stuff?"

Zhang Wenda couldn’t resist asking the Mayan beside him, "Ahava, in your thought wave, what kind of god is Kopan? What is it the god of? How powerful is it?"

"That... I’m not really sure." Ahava looked completely troubled.

Hearing this, Zhang Wenda stared at him in disbelief. "Weren’t you the one who sold me the dagger? And aren’t you Mayan? How can you not even know your own gods?"

"Well, not all of you Easterners know kung fu or have Superpowers, do you? You should ask the High Priest about this. That’s his specialty. I’m just a merchant."

Seeing that was all he was going to get, Zhang Wenda didn’t press the matter. He could only curb his curiosity and continue the slow descent.

When they finally landed, they saw the plane was already surrounded. A group of men covered in cheetah tattoos and wearing leopard-head masks were maintaining order. They appeared to be the local police.

But that wasn’t the most important part. What was most important was that Zhang Wenda was once again seeing the little pink elephant sprites, the kind you’d only see after eating mushrooms.

He also saw translucent Wai of all shapes and sizes lingering near some of the people. Apparently, eating Wai Mushrooms was a perfectly ordinary thing to do here.

He wasn’t the only one; Song Jianguo and 2826 saw them too.

"Don’t make a big deal out of it. It’s just a slight cultural difference," Hu Maomao said. "Every region’s primary thought wave has subtle variations depending on how the people there think." He then stepped forward and walked toward the dead plane, intending to retrieve their luggage.
