Upon hearing the two words "You lose," the surrounding crowd began to lose interest and drift away.
This result didn’t seem particularly surprising.
But just as they were about to leave, Zhang Wenda’s words made them stop in their tracks.
Looking at the Light Saber next to him, Zhang Wenda just smiled. "Not necessarily. In fact, *you’re* the one who lost."
"In a real fight, your head would be smashed to bits. And you’re still talking tough."
But Zhang Wenda shook his head and pulled his right hand out of his pocket. He was pinching the Double Fish Jade Pendant through a piece of cloth.
"My head might have been smashed, but I still wouldn’t have lost. If it weren’t for this cloth, I would have already used this thing to clone a new version of me."
"What do you think this is, a game? You’re just going to cheat your way out?" Pang Miaofeng asked, his brow furrowed.
"Am I cheating? Can’t the Double Fish Jade Pendant clone people? Did my method not work?"
Zhang Wenda walked to the side of the cage and addressed the watching crowd, "Everyone, be the judge. Tell me, did I cheat?"
At Zhang Wenda’s question, the crowd immediately burst into heated debate. Some said Zhang Wenda had lost, others said he hadn’t. A chaotic murmur rose as they argued, with no one able to convince anyone else.
Hearing the noise from all sides, Pang Miaofeng grew irritated. With a frown, he quickly leaped back a dozen or so meters. "Fine! Let’s continue. The ’you’ right now is your clone."
He held the Light Saber with both hands, his body rapidly shifting between two planes of existence. Phasing in and out of view, he charged toward Zhang Wenda.
This time, he was much faster. His body remained in a state between reality and virtualization, clearly on a different level than before.
The moment he reached Zhang Wenda, he vanished. Half a second later, he reappeared behind him. The Light Saber in his hand was now just ten centimeters from the back of Zhang Wenda’s head.
"I win," Zhang Wenda said, still standing in the same spot. He raised his digital watch and waved it behind him. "Five minutes are up. You said it yourself, so don’t go back on your word."
Hearing this, Pang Miaofeng slowly retracted the flashlight in his hand. He took a pair of glasses from his collar pocket, put them back on, and turned toward the exit.
"You really are your uncle’s nephew. But when it’s truly a matter of life and death, cheap tricks like that are useless."
Zhang Wenda followed him out. "That’s not necessarily true. I can tell you weren’t using your full strength, but I wasn’t playing all my cards either. If we were really going at it, it’s hard to say who would win or lose."
"It’s a shame your uncle didn’t have this trick before he died. Maybe he could have cloned himself and told Qianxi that time was up."
Zhang Wenda’s temper flared at his words. "You hate my uncle that much? Did he steal your girl or something?"
VWOOM. The red Light Saber was instantly at Zhang Wenda’s neck, its intense heat causing the rabbit fur on his collar to curl up.
At the same instant, the Sacrificial Knife in Zhang Wenda’s hand was already pressed against his own chest.
In the end, the murderous-looking Pang Miaofeng said nothing more. He simply opened the iron gate of the cage and walked out.
Seeing that the show was over, the rest of the onlookers dispersed.
"Hey! Does this mean I can join the Security Department?" Zhang Wenda yelled after the departing Pang Miaofeng.
"Go to the eighth floor. Find the department head." After saying this, Pang Miaofeng left without another word.
Zhang Wenda glanced around. Seeing that the hostile girl from before had vanished, he turned to face the high-rise building constructed underground and walked straight in.
The inside of the high-rise was vast, giving off the feeling that it was even bigger on the inside than it looked from the outside. Luckily, there was an elevator, and he took it straight to the eighth floor.
The eighth floor was also vast. The entire floor had only three doors. The first one was the place he was looking for: Ouyang Shuangdian, Head of the Security Department.
Before Zhang Wenda could even knock, a woman’s voice came from inside. "Come in."
When Zhang Wenda pushed the door open, he saw a headless woman turn her office chair to face him. "Sit."
The moment she spoke, before Zhang Wenda could even react, he found himself already sitting on a stool with a can of soda in his hand.
"Huh?" Zhang Wenda looked down at the can of White Flower Snake Grass Water in his hand, his mind reeling.
’What’s going on? Is this her ability?’ After the initial shock, Zhang Wenda put the drink down. "Allow me to introduce myself. My name is—"
Before he could finish, she cut him off. "No need. You’ve already said it."
’Did I?’ Her words made Zhang Wenda doubt himself for a moment. But after quickly running through his memory, he was certain he hadn’t said a thing to her.
"You don’t need to speak. Now, you listen to me," the headless woman named Ouyang Shuangdian said, cutting off any further attempts from Zhang Wenda to speak.
"I’ve already watched your fight with Han Dan just now. Your skills are barely passable. For Old Tan’s sake, you can join the Security Department, but once you’re in, don’t you dare slack off."
Just as Zhang Wenda was about to speak, she cut him off again. "Don’t talk yet. You listen to me first. Someone is already having your file transferred over. Don’t worry about those trivial matters."
"But there is one question you need to consider seriously. This department is different from the others. The mortality rate is very high. Let me confirm with you one more time: do you really want to join?"
"I—" Before Zhang Wenda could finish, he found the words had vanished from his lips. He was sitting back down again, once more holding that bottle of White Flower Snake Grass Water.
"Alright, the signature is all we need. This way, Old Tan won’t blame me and shift the responsibility onto my shoulders." Ouyang Shuangdian satisfactorily signed the confirmation form bearing Zhang Wenda’s name and put it away.
’What is with this lady? She’s acting like a total psycho,’ Zhang Wenda thought to himself.
"Now that the official business is done, let’s talk about personal matters. It’s about Biaozi."
Hearing her mention his uncle’s nickname, Zhang Wenda knew at once that she must be another one of his uncle’s friends. ’That "face" of his really is useful. Whether they’re friend or foe, I keep running into his acquaintances everywhere.’
"Is there something about my uncle?" Zhang Wenda finally managed to get a full sentence out since entering the room.
Ouyang Shuangdian was silent for a moment before speaking. "You know your uncle had many faces, right?"
"I know that. What about it?"
"Then do you know *why* your uncle had so many faces?"
"To adapt to different environments. He needed to switch between different identities."
SLAM! She slammed her hand on the desk in agitation, making Zhang Wenda jump. "Biaozi really knew how to sing his own praises! And to think he’d feed that line to his own nephew."
"Of course not! He had all those faces entirely for picking up women! That guy was such a player! You have no idea how much trouble his romantic debts caused back in the day."
"No, wait, Department Head. I don’t really care about my uncle’s gossip. Can we get back to business?" Zhang Wenda had gone through all this trouble to get here, not to listen to gossip, but to learn how to look inward and improve his strength.
"Who’s gossiping with you? This *is* business!" Just as she said this, the door was pushed open, and a familiar voice came from outside. "Department Head, you called for me?"
The next second, in a blur, the ponytailed girl who had been glaring at him from outside the cage was now sitting beside him, holding the exact same bottle of White Flower Snake Grass Water.
She, however, seemed much more used to it, calmly twisting the cap open and taking a sip.
"Um..." Ouyang Shuangdian leaned back and pointed a finger at the girl.
"Since you’re all relatives, you might as well get acquainted today. Rabbit, this is your uncle’s daughter. Which makes her your cousin."
