Infinite Rebate: I Get Richer Every Time I Spend
Chapter 244: Finally Checked InLucas pulled into Ashford University’s basketball complex and immediately felt his stomach sink.
The parking lot was almost empty.
No team bus.
No players.
No coaches.
The only vehicles left belonged to campus security and a few maintenance workers cleaning the area.
"...Damn."
He was too late.
Coach hadn’t been bluffing yesterday.
The team had already left.
Lucas sat behind the wheel for a brief second, gripping it tightly before letting out a long breath.
"So much for making the bus..."
He pulled out his phone without wasting another second and searched for Northlake University.
The navigation loaded.
Estimated driving time: 58 minutes.
Lucas didn’t hesitate.
He slammed the Bugatti into reverse, spun the steering wheel in one smooth motion, and the tires let out a sharp squeal as the car whipped around.
VROOOOM!
The engine roared like a beast finally being unleashed.
A split second later, the Bugatti exploded out of Ashford’s parking lot and shot onto the highway.
---
Traffic was already building.
Morning commuters.
Delivery trucks.
Parents dropping kids off.
Lucas weaved through the lanes with calm precision, never crossing the line into recklessness but never slowing down either.
One clean overtake.
Another perfectly timed lane change.
A quick burst of acceleration through an opening before easing off again.
His eyes never left the road.
His hands stayed relaxed on the wheel.
The Bugatti responded to every movement like it was reading his mind.
Thirty minutes.
Fourty.
Almost an hour later...
The towering entrance of Northlake University finally came into view.
---
Compared to Ashford, the difference was obvious the moment Lucas drove through the front gate.
Ashford looked like a private Ivy League campus.
Modern architecture.
Luxury facilities.
Perfect landscaping.
Every building looked like it belonged in a university brochure.
Northlake...
Was different.
The campus was older.
Louder.
Far less polished.
Groups of students wandered around without any sense of urgency. Some skipped class entirely, sitting beneath trees playing cards, smoking, or blasting music from portable speakers.
Northlake had a reputation.
It wasn’t the hardest school to get into.
Its tuition was affordable, its admission standards weren’t nearly as strict as Ashford’s, and many students treated college as little more than a stepping stone.
Academically...
Ashford won by a mile.
But athletics?
That was another story.
---
As Lucas slowly drove deeper into campus, his Bugatti became the center of attention.
Heads turned one after another.
Students stopped mid-conversation.
Several people instinctively pulled out their phones.
"What the hell..."
"Is that a Bugatti?"
"Who’s driving that?"
"No way a student owns that."
Whispers followed the car wherever it went.
Lucas ignored every single one of them.
His destination was somewhere else.
---
After following the signs for the Athletic Complex, he finally saw it.
Northlake’s basketball arena.
His eyebrows lifted slightly.
"...Not bad."
The arena dwarfed Ashford’s gym.
It wasn’t just larger.
It felt alive.
Banners of past championships hung from the outside walls.
Massive posters of former players covered the entrance.
Crowds of students streamed toward the doors wearing school colors, jerseys, and face paint, their excitement echoing across the plaza.
This wasn’t just a basketball game.
It felt like an event.
Lucas smiled faintly.
"So..."
"This is where all the money goes."
Maybe Northlake couldn’t compete with Ashford in academics.
But it was obvious where the university’s priorities were.
Sports.
Especially basketball.
---
Lucas pulled into the crowded parking lot and finally found an empty space near the back.
The moment he stepped out of the Bugatti, another wave of curious stares followed him.
He paid them no attention.
Instead, he headed straight for the arena entrance.
Students were lined up several rows deep.
Security guards checked every ticket before letting people inside.
Lucas glanced around while waiting.
Beautiful girls weren’t hard to find.
But out of habit, his eyes subconsciously evaluated them.
Most barely reached seven points.
Some touched 7.5.
A few approached eight.
Very few crossed that line.
Compared to Ashford...
The overall quality was noticeably lower.
Still...
He wasn’t here for the system today.
Basketball came first.
---
Three long minutes later, Lucas finally squeezed through the entrance.
The moment he stepped inside...
The roar of thousands of voices crashed over him like a tidal wave.
Sneakers screeched against polished hardwood.
The sharp whistle of a referee echoed through the arena.
The electronic scoreboard glowed brightly above center court.
The game...
Had already started.
Lucas’s expression tightened.
Without stopping, he made his way through the lower seats until he spotted the familiar white-and-blue jerseys of the Ashford bench.
He quietly slipped into an empty chair near the end of the bench.
Just in time to watch the first quarter unfolding before him.
Lucas quietly took his seat at the very end of Ashford University’s bench and fixed his eyes on the court.
No one greeted him.
No one even acknowledged he had arrived.
Coach Harris glanced in his direction for less than a second before pretending he hadn’t seen him at all. The assistant coaches did the same, while several players exchanged subtle smiles with one another.
They were pleased.
Back at Ashford, before the team bus left campus, they had deliberately rushed the driver.
"We’re all here, Coach."
"Everybody’s accounted for."
"No point waiting any longer."
They knew exactly what they were doing.
If the bus left early enough, Lucas would miss the game entirely.
For a while...
They thought their plan had worked.
Apparently...
It hadn’t.
---
Lucas didn’t say a word.
He simply leaned forward with his elbows resting on his knees and watched the game unfold.
The scoreboard above center court glowed brightly.
Northlake University 18
Ashford University 11
Only eight minutes had passed.
Tip-off had been at exactly nine o’clock.
Lucas had walked into the arena around 9:14, shaving nearly twenty minutes off the drive thanks to the Bugatti’s ridiculous speed and his aggressive but controlled driving.
Even so...
Ashford was already getting bullied.
---
The atmosphere inside the arena was electric.
Thousands of students packed the stands from top to bottom.
Every defensive stop sent one side roaring.
Every basket shook the building.
The polished hardwood reflected the overhead lights, while the giant video board replayed every dunk, block, and foul in crystal-clear quality.
This wasn’t some ordinary college gym.
It felt like a miniature professional arena.
Then...
Lucas’s attention drifted toward the baseline.
Rows of cheerleaders were lined up beside the court.
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"So that’s it..."
Every one of them wore Northlake’s blue-and-gold uniform.
Tight fitted tops that stretched tightly across their big, full breasts, the fabric clinging so closely that the soft shape and bounce of their chests were impossible to miss with every jump. Short pleated skirts that barely covered the upper half of their thighs, riding up slightly whenever they moved and giving quick glimpses of smooth skin underneath.
Long, toned legs.
Bright smiles.
Pom-poms flashing beneath the lights every time the home team scored.
Some had flowing blonde hair.
Others wore sleek black ponytails.
They moved with practiced precision, every routine synchronized, energetic, and impossible to ignore. Their big breasts jiggled lightly under the tight tops with each sharp movement, and the short skirts fluttered just enough to keep drawing the eye.
They were beautiful.
Not just pretty...
Lucas couldn’t help smiling.
"So this was Max’s real motivation."
Basketball?
Maybe.
The cheerleaders?
Definitely.
Now he finally understood why Max had refused to quit the team no matter how much practice Coach Harris forced him through.
Lucas casually activated the system.
One face after another flashed before his eyes.
8.8...
8.9...
8.1...
8.3...
His brows rose slightly.
There were actually several qualified targets among Northlake’s cheer squad.
---
Before Lucas could continue checking them...
WHISTLE!
The referee’s whistle echoed across the court.
A hard foul.
Lucas instinctively looked back toward the floor.
That’s when he finally saw him.
Dexter.
Northlake University’s captain.
The undisputed star of the team.
The man looked less like a basketball player...
And more like someone who belonged in a bodybuilding competition.
He stood nearly six-foot-eight.
His shoulders were unbelievably broad.
His arms stretched the sleeves of his jersey so tightly it looked ready to rip apart with every flex.
Every muscle across his body seemed carved from stone.
Even beneath the loose basketball uniform, his chest and back looked massive enough to intimidate anyone standing in front of him.
Lucas blinked once.
"...Seriously?"
"What are they feeding this guy?"
From where he sat, Dexter looked like someone who should’ve been deadlifting six hundred pounds...
Not running fast breaks.
---
On the replay screen, the foul became even clearer.
Dexter had lowered his shoulder and bulldozed straight through Ashford’s power forward.
The collision sounded like two cars crashing together.
Ashford’s player flew backward and slammed onto the hardwood, clutching his ribs in obvious pain.
The entire Ashford bench exploded.
"That’s an offensive foul!"
"He lowered his shoulder!"
"Ref!"
Nothing.
The officials simply signaled for play to continue.
No whistle.
No review.
Nothing.
The crowd cheered louder.
---
Lucas finally understood.
"So this is what Max meant..."
The home-court advantage wasn’t just loud fans.
The referees were letting Northlake play far more physically than Ashford.
Dexter practically got away with murder every possession.
Meanwhile...
Ashford couldn’t even breathe on him without getting called for a foul.
The injured player still hadn’t gotten back up.
Two trainers hurried onto the court before helping him toward the bench, one arm wrapped around each shoulder.
He was finished.
---
Lucas slowly turned toward Coach Harris.
Back at Ashford...
The coach barked orders nonstop.
Insulted players.
Mocked Lucas.
Acted like he controlled everything.
But here...
He looked completely different.
Quiet.
Careful.
Almost...
Powerless.
Even he knew arguing with the officials wouldn’t change a thing.
Lucas stood.
"I’m going in."
Coach Harris didn’t even look at him.
"Sit down."
Lucas repeated himself.
"Put me in."
This time Coach Harris finally turned.
For several seconds...
He stared silently at Lucas.
Then an ugly smile slowly appeared.
Fine.
If this spoiled rich kid wanted to embarrass himself...
Why stop him?
Maybe getting crushed by Dexter would finally knock that confidence out of him.
"Substitution!"
Coach Harris shouted toward the scorer’s table.
A horn echoed through the arena.
Ashford’s injured forward limped off the floor...
And Lucas Gray stepped onto the hardwood for the first time.
The noise inside the arena swelled instantly.
Every eye turned toward the newcomer.
