Infinite Rebate System: Beautiful Women And Endless Returns
Chapter 38: CloserSarah Torres sent the first message three days after the showcase.
Not a story reply. Not a reaction to something he’d posted. A direct message. Deliberate.
@sarah.torres.official: Temi says thank you. The budget came through.
Xavier was at his desk reviewing the phase 3 report when it arrived. He read it once then set his phone face down and kept reading the report for another ten minutes before picking it up again.
Xavier: good. When’s the showcase.
@sarah.torres.official:In three weeks. You’re coming obviously.
Obviously, he noted. She’s already assumed it.
Xavier: depends on the material.
@sarah.torres.official: Xavier it’s Temi’s showcase not mine
Xavier: I know. Depends on Temi’s material then.
A pause.
@sarah.torres.official: you’re impossible
Xavier: you keep coming back.
The longest pause yet.
@sarah.torres.official: 😒 goodnight
Xavier set the phone down.
She messaged first, he thought. Three days after the showcase. Not immediately. She sat with it for three days. He looked at the ceiling. That’s not impulsive. That’s considered.
He checked the gauge.
Sarah Torres — 41%
Still 41, he noted. The message moved nothing. Conversation moves nothing. I need deliberate spend directed at her specifically and she needs to know it came from me.
Next opportunity.
The opportunity arrived four days later.
Sarah posted a story at 2PM on a Wednesday. A photo of a flyer. A masterclass being held by a visiting vocal coach from overseas. Three days only. Exclusive to serious performers. The registration fee was $2500 and the caption said: waiting to see if I can make this work financially. someone pray for me again.
Xavier looked at the story for exactly thirty seconds.
Then opened his laptop.
The masterclass had a registration portal. He found it in under two minutes. Paid the $500 registration fee under Sarah’s name directly through the portal using her email address. Which she’d listed publicly on her Arts faculty profile for performance bookings.
Then sent one DM from his main account this time. Not anonymous.
Xavier: check your masterclass registration email.
He put the phone face down and waited.
Four minutes passed.
@sarah.torres.official: Xavier
@sarah.torres.official: Xavier what did you do..
Xavier: you said you were trying to make it work financially. It’s a solvable problem.
@sarah.torres.official: you paid my registration fee
Xavier: yes.
@sarah.torres.official: without asking
Xavier: you would have said no.
A very long pause.
@sarah.torres.official: ...you’re right I would have
@sarah.torres.official: why
Xavier: because the showcase piece was good. Which means you’re serious about this. Serious people use the right resources when they’re available.
@sarah.torres.official: Xavier that’s $2500
Xavier: I’m aware of the number.
Another pause.
@sarah.torres.official: thank you. Actually thank you. I don’t know what else to say.
Xavier: don’t say anything. Go to the masterclass.
@sarah.torres.official: okay
@sarah.torres.official: okay Xavier.
He checked the gauge immediately.
Sarah Torres — 41% → 55%
Fourteen percent, he thought. From one direct spend she knew came from me.
He looked at the number.
55% is intermediate range, he noted. Halfway to binding threshold. He leaned back in his chair. The difference between anonymous spend and direct spend is fourteen favorability points in four minutes.
Noted.

Sarah’s messages kept coming through the afternoon. Not overwhelming. She wasn’t the type to flood a conversation. Just present in a way she hadn’t been before. Reactions to his stories. A voice note about something that happened at the masterclass registration. A photo of the confirmation email with no caption.
Xavier responded selectively. Not always. Not quickly. Just enough to keep the frequency without becoming available.
The gauge responds to actions, he thought. Not availability. Being constantly reachable signals need. I don’t need anything from Sarah Torres.
She needs to feel that.
She called him on Friday evening.
Not a message. An actual call.
Xavier looked at the screen for a moment. Then answered.
"Sarah," he said.
"The masterclass starts Monday," she said. No preamble. Just into it. "Three days. Morning sessions. The coach is apparently brutal in the best way." A pause. "I wanted to tell you."
"Why," he said.
"Because you made it possible," she said. "And I wanted you to know it’s actually happening."
Xavier said nothing for a moment.
She called to tell me it’s happening, he thought. Not to thank me again. She already did that. She called because she wanted to share it with someone and she chose me.
Different.
"Good," he said. "Tell me how the first session goes."
A pause. Like she hadn’t expected that.
"Yeah," she said. "Okay. I will."
Another pause. Longer.
"Xavier," she said.
"Sarah."
"Why do I feel like you have some kind of absurd plan for me," she said. Not provocatively. Just honestly. The question underneath all the other questions she’d been asking since the café.
Xavier was quiet for a moment.
Absurd plan, he thought. If only she knew.
"Everyone has a plan," he said. "Most people just don’t admit it."
"That’s not a denial," she said.
"No," he said. "It’s not."
Silence on the line.
"So you do have a plan," she said slowly.
"I have a plan for everything," he said. "That’s not specific to you."
"Xavier."
"Sarah."
"That’s not reassuring," she said.
"It wasn’t meant to be reassuring," he said. "It was meant to be honest."
Another silence. Longer this time. He could hear her processing it on the other end — the particular quiet of someone deciding whether the answer they got was better or worse than the one they were expecting.
"Okay," she said finally.
"Okay," he said.
"Goodnight Xavier," she said.
"Goodnight Sarah," he said.
"He checked the gauge after the call ended.
Sarah Torres — 55% → 61%
Six percent from one phone call, he noted. The call she initiated. The share she chose. He looked at the number. 61%.
Intermediate range. Moving toward high.
He pulled up his balance.
$273,227.
He looked at the EXP.
13,250 out of 50,000.
He looked at the arc roadmap he’d written in his notes weeks ago.
Binding threshold — 80%, he read. Current — 61%. Gap — 19 points.
Getting close, he thought. But not rushing.
He closed his notes and pulled up the phase 3 report.
Ashworth, he thought. Still on administrative leave. The independent investigation running. The Cardinal Circle’s finances under scrutiny. He scrolled through the latest update from Patricia. Two more weeks before the board makes a decision on permanent action.
Two fronts, he thought. Both moving.
His phone buzzed one more time.
@sarah.torres.official: by the way. The section I told you about. The one I wrote the morning after the studio.
@sarah.torres.official: I performed it tonight at the showcase. Just for myself in my room. It’s the best thing I’ve written.
@sarah.torres.official: so. Just so you know.
Xavier read that message twice.
Just so you know, he thought.
He didn’t respond immediately.
He sat at his desk in the quiet of his apartment with Juice WRLD playing low from the corner and the city outside his window and $273,000 in an account that reset at midnight.
She performed it for herself, he thought. And then told me.
Not the crowd. Not her followers. Me.
He checked the gauge one more time.
Sarah Torres — 63%
Two more percent, he noted. From one message sent after a phone call had already ended.
She’s thinking about me when she puts her phone down, he thought. That’s what that means.
He finally typed back.
Xavier: I know.
He put his phone away and got back to work.
63%, he thought. 17 points to binding threshold.
Patience.
