Infinite Rebate System: Beautiful Women And Endless Returns
Chapter 60: Done deedXavier turned his phone face down on the bar counter.
It’s done, he thought.
He sat very still for a moment.
The bar around him doing its ordinary Friday evening thing. Two people at the far end of the counter having a conversation about something completely unrelated to anything happening at an Arts festival across the city. The bartender polishing glasses with the particular unhurried energy of someone in the middle of a long shift.
It’s done, he thought again.
He picked up his second drink and finished it slowly.
One message came through at 9:47PM that he turned the phone over for.
Not Temi. Not Dana. Not Jordan.
@sarah.torres.official: .
Just a full stop. Nothing else.
Xavier looked at it for a long time.
She knows, he thought. She’s standing somewhere right now. Backstage maybe, or outside the venue, or in a bathroom with the door locked and she sent a full stop because there are no words yet for what just happened to her in front of everyone that matters.
A full stop.
That’s all.
He looked at it for another moment.
Then put the phone away.
He sat at the bar counter alone in a place nobody knew he was and felt something he hadn’t expected to feel.
Not satisfaction. Not the clean closure of a completed mission. Not the particular coldness of a plan executed perfectly.
Something quieter than any of those.
Something that didn’t have a name yet.
He sat with it for a long time.
Then he paid his bill and left.

The city outside was the same city it had been two hours ago. Same streets. Same Friday energy. Same people moving through it without any awareness of what had just happened at an Arts festival on the other side of Kenvale.
Xavier walked home with his hands in his pockets.
It’s done, he thought. The Reckoning is done.
He thought about Sarah’s message on the train platform. Forty seven dollars. The TV. The ring bought on three months of tips.
Returned, he thought. Everything returned.
He should have felt finished.
He walked home through the city and tried to locate the feeling of finished.
It wasn’t quite there.
Be careful it doesn’t cost you something you actually want to keep, he thought.
He walked faster.
He was two blocks from his hostel when the system chimed.

Xavier stopped walking.
Stood on the pavement two blocks from his hostel with the city moving around him and the notification glowing on his screen.
Main quest complete, he read.
Special package unlocked.
He looked at the notification for a long moment.
Then pressed — Later.
And kept walking.

Meanwhile — at the Arts festival
The amphitheatre was at capacity by 8:30PM.
Not just Riverside students. Faces from outside the university, press credentials on lanyards near the front, the particular atmosphere of an event that had grown beyond what its original scale had planned for. String lights across the full width of the venue. A stage larger than any previous campus event. Professional lighting rigs. A proper sound desk. The kind of setup that communicated before anyone walked out that tonight was different from everything that had come before it.
Victoria Hale was in the third row.
She’d arrived early. Industry people who were genuinely interested always did. She had her notebook. Her phone face down on her knee. The particular focused stillness of someone who had heard a lot of performances and knew within the first sixty seconds whether something was worth the rest of her evening.
Temi was near the back managing logistics the way Temi managed everything. With loud cheerful efficiency that somehow always produced the right result. Dana was somewhere near the press area. Jordan was backstage with Sarah.
The crowd noise built steadily as the opening acts finished and the MC took the mic.
"Last performance of the night," the MC said. "And honestly the one everyone came for. Arts faculty first year. She’s been building toward this all semester. Ladies and gentlemen...Sarah Torres."
The applause started before she reached the stage.
Sarah came out in white.
Not the structured all black of the last showcase. White this time. A fitted dress, clean and deliberate, hair loose. The choice of someone who had thought about what the biggest night of her campus life should look like and decided it should look like the first time anyone had seen her. Full circle. Beginning and arrival in the same outfit.
She took the mic from the stand and looked out at the crowd.
Found the VIP section automatically.
The table she’d reserved. Front centre. The best seat in the house.
Empty.
He’s on his way, she told herself. He said he was on his way.
She looked at the crowd properly. The faces. The energy. Victoria Hale in the third row with her notebook already open.
Focus, she told herself. The set. Focus on the set.
She nodded to the sound desk.
Track one started.
It was the best she had ever performed.
Not almost. Not close to. Actually the best. The breathing technique from the masterclass sitting in her muscle memory so completely she didn’t have to think about it. It was just there, doing what it was supposed to do, opening her range in ways the campus audiences hadn’t heard from her before.
Track one landed. The crowd responded immediately. Not polite applause the real thing. The kind that came from people who hadn’t expected what they just heard and were recalibrating in real time.
Track two. Stronger than track one. The bridge she’d spent a week fighting before it unlocked overnight. Sitting perfectly now, exactly as it should be, exactly as she’d heard it in her head when she wrote it.
