“So, which one of us is going to take her to the tower?” Simon asked as Norberta rolled on the floor, doing an excellent impression of a burning tire by the plumes of smoke that rose from her.
That wasn’t all she had done of course, in the 3 days since her hatching, she had ate, shat metaphorical ambers on Hagrid’s bed, ate some more, set alight wooden chair leg to gnaw on and then ate some more. She might have even slept in between but Hagrid’s sunken eyes spoke to the fitful sleep of the dragon.
Thankfully, they would only have to abide by such for only some hours more, since Alucard’s cousin would be sending someone to pick the dragon up tonight though if you looked at Hagrid you would consider the man had just lost his mother, as he wept a fountain and blew his nose on his comically large handkerchief ever few minutes.
“Oh, come on Hagrid you’ve only had her for a few days, the other dragons won’t reject her even if her mother was a giant.” Anos spoke and Norberta took the moment to sit and then crawl over to his shoulder, gliding her wings in between and chirping when her leathery wings slapped against his face.
But those had not been the right words to say as Hagrid now began to fret anew, twiddling his thumbs at this new sudden prospect.
“They’ll know Im the little ones mother?” Hagrid asked, preening in pride and worry at the same time.
“They’re dragons Hagrid, they’ve better sense of smell then most when they don’t have ash filled up their nostrils. They’ll know she has been near giants but before you ask, no they won’t hunt her down for it. If what Alucard said is anything to go by, she'll be just fine.” Anos answered, gently scratching along the dragon’s back so it hopped on his shoulders in a show of joy.
‘I would be more worried about the human smell, and the Vampire that rubbed off on her.’ Anos considered but refrained from speaking the words, from what he had discussed with Alucard it would be just fine.
“My cousin’s spouse owns the sanctuary Hagrid, Norberta will be in a second home.” Alucard said, trying to offer comfort.
“Why can’ they just leave her an me over here, in her first home?” Hagrid said and began to bawl while Harriet patted his shoulder to get him to calm down, though Anos doubted Hagrid even noticed.
“We’ve been over this Hagrid, she can’t stay with you unless you want to go to jail. You can even write letters to her.” Hermione sighed, apparently tired at the conversation going in circles.
Alucard was quick to agree to that, and informed Hagrid that he can know of her health and life, maybe they can even send him videos of certain times. Hagrid was confused about what a video exactly was but nodded when told it was a moving picture.
“Should’ve called it that in ter firs’ place.” He said, rubbing his face.
“I think I might be able to keep her quiet while we sneak up to the Astronomy tower.” Anos said after a moment, stopping the dragon from nipping at his ears by poking at it’s snout, which confused it before it began to flap it’s wings again.
“Why can’ I go with er? I can keep er calm.” Hagrid said and Alucard let out an audible sigh.
“Hagrid, she bit your face when you tried to put her to bed.” Alucard pointed at the right side of Hagrid’s face, which was noticeably swollen and lacking in the bushy beard that adorned the rest of his jawline on account of having been bitten off by a dragon.
Norberta had not enjoyed the taste of hair that was certain.
Thankfully, Hagrid had a potion for the poison and had been safe from the poisonous bite that she had but some of the effects couldn’t be mitigated.
“He’s right Hagrid, you can take your time to say goodbye to her. We’ll get her safely to the Astronomy Tower, I promise.” Harriet said and Hagrid thanked her for it by offering sweet rolls to her which she declined on account of the crust making her teeth wobble as she chewed.
“How will yer get there? Someone will see an’ you’ll get thrown in with Filch.” Hagrid asked.
“Well for one quietly. All of us are not going. I’ll go, and Harriet. Alucard too.” Anos answered, while Alucard nodded, they had talked this over in private though uncomfortably that it’ll be best for Alucard to be there since it was his cousin’s friends in the first place and Anos didn’t have much experience interacting with Vampires aside from Alucard himself.
Harriet would get the Invisibility cloak and Simon will be the lookout, they’ll struggle to fit into the cloak and Anos had said as much but Simon refused to budge so they would have to manage somehow considering the Astronomy Tower only had one entrance, it might even help having him for lookout.
“Do you have anything to store her in?” Alucard asked and Hagrid nodded quickly, walking to a pile near his bed and shuffling around for a bit before returning with a cage that he dropped on the table.
“Why… do you have this?” Alucard asked, turning the cage over while looking at the dragon to see if it’ll fit.
“It was for me Falcon.” Hagrid said naturally, as if that explained everything.
“We should try and see if she’ll fit.” Alucard asked and Anos nodded, gently picking up the dragon from where it had been roosting in his lap.
They got her in but just so, if the dragon was even a week older then it would not have fit. Norberta hissed at everyone but Anos, who enticed her into entering the cage by offering his finger as a bait, leading her into it and earning a scratch to his glove for the betrayal as they closed the cage behind her.
“Well she fits at least.” Harriet offered, and Hagrid wiped at his face before nodding.
“Say your goodbyes to her now Hagrid, we’ll need to get her in a few hours.” Anos said, and they sat around as the half giant offered everything short of a limb to the dragon, it was heartwarming to see Hagrid like that and even Norberta chirped in answer from time to time though if Anos had to guess she just wanted to take a bite at his beard again considering it seemed to have offended her.
“I doubt she’ll ever forget the time when he tried to feed her hard tack.” Anos whispered into Harriet’s ear and she chuckled in answer while Alucard discussed timings with Hermione and when they could get away with sneaking out, because as it so happened Hermione talked a lot to have found out which Prefect would be on guard duty on it.
They would get the dragon away safely and without any punishment if Anos had anything to say about it, though he had a premonition things would not be as smooth sailing as he hoped in any circumstances. Then again they rarely ever were.
