"What do you mean?"
Kyle’s face turned sour the moment the system said that sentence.
[I exactly meant what I said. Do you want me to also abandon you and leave you forever lonely, just like everyone else did throughout your life, including your parents?]
"N-no..."
Kyle’s voice turned weak, and his head slowly lowered.
[Then, man, grind! Grind the fuck out of this system and become the most famous and strongest person in the universe. Stop wasting time.]
The system was motivating him the way David Goggins motivated people.
"Okay! Alright! Let’s do it then!"
His back straightened, and he forced a confident smile onto his face.
[That’s the spirit, boy! Go grab that bag!]
The system sounded like the supportive friend he had never had in his life.
He was exhausted from his shift—mostly because of Lira— so he cooked a cup of instant ramen and began eating while scrolling through his phone. He downloaded every dating app he could find, from the most popular ones to obscure niche apps, creating accounts on all of them because he figured that was the best and most anonymous way to find a partner.
"Let’s begin!"
He said it with genuine determination.
He had downloaded over ten different dating apps and even bought subscriptions for several of them because these greedy apps seemed determined to make users pay before they could even send a message.
Just as he was about to swipe right on a girl and send his first message—
[Hold your horses, bro!]
The system’s voice suddenly interrupted him.
"What happened, man? Why are you stopping me?"
"Weren’t you the one telling me to find girls online? What happened now?"
[Nothing much. I just have a suggestion. I think it’s time you used the stat point you received from the quest, don’t you think?]
The system gave a surprisingly useful suggestion just before Kyle was about to send his first message.
"You’re right... but which stat should I put it into? That’s the confusing part."
Although Kyle agreed with the suggestion, he was hesitant. He only had one stat point, and he didn’t want to waste it by investing it in the wrong attribute. Every one of his stats was terrible, but he still wanted the one that would give him the most immediate benefit.
[Don’t overthink it. Just put it into the stat you think you’re lacking the most. Simple as that.]
The system replied casually.
"You’re right, but I’m lacking in—never mind, I get what you mean! Let’s increase my charm... or, more specifically, my sex appeal!"
He snapped his fingers as if a comic-book light bulb had suddenly appeared above his head.
[That’s my twin! That’s exactly what you need to do. Increase your sex appeal. It’ll make it easier for you to get girls. Even a single point matters in this game.]
Nodding enthusiastically, Kyle opened the system window, entered the stat screen, and invested his only point into Sex Appeal.
[Sex Appeal Increased by +1]
[Sex Appeal: 3]
[Remaining Stat Points: 0]
"Let’s go!"
[Good work. Now feel free to hit up any girl without worrying too much.]
Kyle nodded again.
"Of course, bro."
The system added, [Maybe you should try with Lira too. What do you think?]
"Hell naw! Man, I literally acted like a shy rom-com teenager in front of her. Ain’t no way I’m bagging her now."
He facepalmed himself in embarrassment, convinced that he had already ruined whatever chance he might have had.
[Well, she didn’t seem to care, though. Also, for you it was love at first sight, so don’t worry. You’ve got eight hours with her every day—that’s plenty of time to break the ice. She’s also pretty approachable. She was the one who approached you first, remember? Maybe you actually have a chance.]
"Nah, man. Me having a chance? That’s impossible. Like, just look at me. I look like a Victorian child at this point. I’m that skinny. And not to mention I’m broke as hell. There are a million guys better than me. Why would she choose me over them?"
[Boy, you’re underestimating yourself way too much. They don’t have what you have right now. Don’t forget that.]
"I know... but it’s still too fast."
[It’s alright. You’ve got to skill up and money up. It takes time to get used to anything new.]
The system was surprisingly supportive and optimistic.
Kyle nodded and began sending requests to every girl on every platform non-stop.
An hour passed.
Yawn.
It was four in the morning now, and he was exhausted. He had swiped through roughly 1,500 profiles and sent requests to every profile that looked like it belonged to a woman. Satisfied that he had done everything he could, he finally went to sleep.
The next day began.
It was two in the afternoon.
"Brooooo... what the hell!"
"Did I seriously get ghosted by all of them? Like, only a hundred out of 1,533 even viewed the message I sent, and out of those, only fifteen bothered to reply. Every single one of them said no, and one of them even reacted with an ’ew’ emoji."
Looking at his reaction, it wouldn’t be wrong to compare him to Nobita—the kind of guy who cried over every setback and immediately looked for someone else to save him.
[What happened, man? It’s only been a day. Not everyone is online all the time. Also, did you even think about your message before crying over the ’ew’ emoji? You literally sent: ’Hi beautiful, do you want to fuck and record some tape? Of course, you’ll be paid.’ Did you consider how creepy that would sound if you were a girl?]
"Uhh... what do you mean?"
Because of Kyle’s complete lack of experience with women, he genuinely didn’t understand what the system meant.
"I did what you said, though. And don’t those love gurus and pickup artists do the same thing? I saw it on YouTube. They did it so smoothly, you know..."
For a moment, the system went completely silent.
Then—
[What the fuck is wrong with you?! Are you seriously this smooth-brained, or are you fucking with me?!]
