The morning sun filtered through the window, pouring its golden rays into Silas's silver eyes.
Silas groaned as he covered his eyes with his left palm.
"It is morning already?" He muttered with a wide yawn.
He pushed himself up gently and rested his back against the headboard.
"Seems like I slept off," he said as he pushed himself away from the bed.
The chill of the floor sent a rattle through his spine, but he endured it and entered the bathroom.
The sound of the shower releasing water and the droplets meeting tiles filled the air.
Then it stopped after some time.
Silas stepped out of the bathroom, soaked with water.
His hair was messy, scattered, and wet.
But it was not like that for long.
Meticulously, Silas began arranging each strand until it was perfectly set over his head.
He winked into the mirror.
"Much better."
Then he went to the wardrobe.
After a few minutes of deliberation, he finally settled on a blue shirt and black jeans.
"My wardrobe is pretty much all the same style," he said with a smile as he put on his clothes.
He began walking towards his door.
'Food, anime, lab, then meeting with Auranova,' he replayed in his mind as he walked out.
The hallway was empty.
A quiet chime rang through the place as the elevator doors slid open.
Silas entered calmly.
The soft hum of the elevator was the only sound in the air for the first few moments before it stopped, sending a shudder through Silas's body.
"What is that smell?" Silas muttered as he walked through the doors.
"Good morning," Asher greeted as Silas entered the living room.
"Good morning," Silas replied with a smile.
"What is he cooking?" Silas whispered into Asher's ear.
"He said something about spaghetti and meatballs," Asher replied with a shrug.
"Why is there spit sliding down from the corner of your mouth?" Silas asked with furrowed brows.
Asher quickly wiped it.
"Nothing."
Silas shook his head slowly before walking towards the chair.
"While he cooks, I can at least watch some episodes of the anime," Silas muttered as he crashed into the chair.
"So you have forgotten about games entirely and chosen to watch anime instead," Asher said, sitting beside Silas.
Silas nodded.
"Is anything wrong with that?" He asked.
"No, not at all," Asher replied quickly.
Soon, it was on screen.
Silas's eyes seemed to sparkle as he watched.
"This is really weird," Asher said, standing up from the chair.
Silas looked at him with what seemed to be disappointment.
"Your taste is one of the worst I have come across," he said, turning back to the television.
Asher nodded, not even bothering to argue.
"I would be in the kitchen."
Less than ten minutes after Asher left, Howard came in.
"I am done cooking," he said.
"Okay," Silas said, waving him off.
"Oh, you also like anime," Howard said, staring at the screen.
"I only started yesterday, but this one is really good. I don't know how others would be," Silas said, eyes still on the screen.
"Do you also like it?"
Howard shook his head.
"But it is one of the biggest sensations globally."
"Can you bring my food here?" Silas asked.
"Sure thing," Howard replied, turning back towards the kitchen.
On the dining table, Asher was already eating.
He did not even look up as Howard passed.
It was as if only he and the food existed on the surface of the planet.
Howard soon came back with a plate of red, oily spaghetti with round meatballs spread all around it.
Silas collected it and placed it on the centre table.
"At the very least, Eren is a Titan," he said as he ate from the plate.
He looked away from the television for a fraction of a second, his gaze settling on the plate, then on Howard.
A long strand of spaghetti still hung from the corner of his lips.
"When you said you wanted to start a restaurant, were you serious?" Silas asked.
"No, I can't even if I wanted to. I must stay with you until you graduate."
Silas exhaled at those words.
"At least I can enjoy your food until I graduate."
Howard nodded with a smile.
Time passed slowly, but it was still too fast for Silas, who did not want this moment to end.
[Master Silas, the time you set for your work in the lab has come.]
Rion said in his mind.
Silas looked at the television for another moment.
But Rion did not spare him.
It rang in his mind again, this time louder.
Silas did not budge.
The ringing continued to increase in volume until Silas finally gave up.
"Fine," he groaned, standing up from the chair.
"I don't know why I even set it up if I was not going to respond."
As he spoke, he made his way towards the elevator.
"I would be in the lab for a while. Asher, you can play your game. Howard, please get the plane ready — we are going to Australia once I get back from the lab."
"Thank you," Asher said, taking hurried strides towards the console.
Meanwhile, Howard nodded before heading out of the house.
The elevator doors opened and Silas was in the lab again.
Without stopping, he walked towards the tube that contained the corpse.
His fingers grazed the tube as he thought aloud.
"So, there's nothing I can do to cut it," he mused, fingers resting beneath his chin.
He had even tried using the ultra-intensity laser in the lab; it could not leave even a scratch.
"There are only two options now."
As he spoke, he walked back towards his chair in front of the table.
"I can either ask a high-level cultivator to help me with it."
As he spoke, he pulled the book on the table closer and scribbled some names on it.
"So, Levi is the only person I can call among everyone here," he muttered.
"But Levi might also be busy with something."
He thought about it for a while.
"I can try my Fission skill."
But he wanted to refrain from using the skill.
The image of what had happened when he used Analyze was still fresh in his mind.
He began tapping the butt of his pen against his chin as he thought.
Then he frowned.
"Why am I even scared? It's not like I expected anything to be easy in the first place."
A moment of silence followed those words.
"Okay, on the bright side, even if I collapse, Howard would be alerted in time."
He pushed against the floor and stood up.
For a brief moment, he only stared at the corpse.
"So much trouble just to create a genetic potion for a future pet," Silas said with a sigh.
"I just hope it is worth it."
Then he walked to the tube containing it.
"Rion, set it on the table," Silas said, his voice barely above a whisper.
But Rion seemed to hear anyway.
The tube began rolling towards the dissecting table.
Silas watched as the corpse was laid on the table gently.
"Okay, I hope this works," he whispered, flexing his fingers in preparation.
"No, I need calm," Silas said, slowing his breath.
"Okay, I am ready."
His eyes rested on the corpse, then he spoke.
"Fission."
At those words, it was as though a hidden master blade tore through the beast's corpse in an instant.
All parts of its body split.
"No, no," Silas yelled as the blood began to pour out.
"Fusion," he yelled quickly, fusing the blood back with the veins.
The veins seemed to swell as the black blood filled them again.
Silas exhaled at the sight.
"No pain," he said with a smile, the thought rising with relief.
Although he had made up his mind to endure it, he still dreaded the prospect.
A smile remained on his face as he looked at the parts on the table.
"Seems like the entire crafting process would be done using Fusion."
Then another thought arose.
He did not know any of their properties yet; there was no way he could brew without knowing anything.
"Analyze again?" he groaned, shaking his head slowly.
"Okay, let's see," he muttered, walking closer to the split parts.
He gulped loudly.
"Analyze."
[Name: Voidhide]
[Properties: Passively absorbs energy directed at it.
Responds to the wielder's intent. Hardens or softens on the user's will.
Partial resistance to conceptual attacks.
Self-repair over time.]
Silas sighed as he dispelled the skill.
"Okay, at least it was not painful," Silas muttered.
But he still felt an overwhelming strain from using the skill on just one body part.
"Maybe I should wait and use it again after some rest," he said.
"In the meantime, maybe I can figure out what to do with this Voidhide."
It could not be used in the brewing of a potion, for sure, so he needed to put it to another use.
"An armor would have been nice, but how do I even fashion this into one?"
Silas fell back into his chair.
"Not in a thousand years did I see myself facing this amount of trouble over a single thing."
