An Ning put the photos away. She would find a time to give them to Jiang Xia. As for the paternity test, she was sure Jiang Xia would put it to good use.

She tucked the photos away, placing the envelope in her backpack—though in reality, she put it into her space.

She left the room, said goodbye to Zhou Yicheng, and got into the car driven by Yu Zheng, heading to the next location.

An Ning had arranged with Director Zhao to set aside some time to handle a few technical matters.

These "technical matters" were the technological problems various factories faced, some of which were already on the verge of seeking to buy the technology from abroad.

Yu Zheng drove An Ning to the specified address. After opening the car door, he went inside with her.

A dedicated attendant opened the main gate. Director Zhao was the first to walk out, followed by several other people—a mix of men and women, all appearing to be over thirty.

With the exception of Director Zhao, the others all had doubtful looks in their eyes.

"An Ning, please, come inside. Everything you need has been prepared. If you require anything else, just ask. We will provide it all."

An Ning’s style was fast and decisive. She cut straight to the point. "I know you’re not convinced, but I don’t have time to prove myself to you."

"Those who can handle it and control themselves can stay. Those who can’t, please leave. I don’t have time to coddle your feelings."

Her words were blunt but true, and while many faces soured, no one left.

An Ning walked into the room, immediately got into the zone, and started working.

"Director Zhao, give me the first set of materials, ordered by priority."

"Yes!"

Director Zhao was the first to fall into line, handing An Ning a binder of materials nearly twenty centimeters thick.

An Ning took it, sat down, and flipped through it with incredible speed before closing the binder to think.

Five minutes later, An Ning asked for paper and a pen. The frantic scratching of her writing never stopped.

The group that had greeted her earlier crowded behind her, their expressions shifting from anger to shock, then from shock to composure, and finally, to quiet, wholehearted admiration.

"Who’s in mechanical design?"

"I am!"

A man in the back raised his hand high. With a firm, precise motion, An Ning tore a sheet of paper from her notepad and passed it back without turning her head. "Find a technician and get to work."

"Yes, ma’am."

The man left with the technical drawing, studying it as he walked, his admiration growing with every glance.

"Chemical fibers?"

"Me!"

"Take it. Go."

Another person took a file and left.

One by one they departed, while An Ning requested the second set of materials and continued her assault.

’Assault’ was perhaps the wrong word. She was more like a teacher who already knew all the answers, simply writing out the templates for her students.

Soon, all the non-research and non-technical personnel in the room had gathered together. They couldn’t break into the atmosphere over there.

For a moment, they felt utterly useless.

After waiting for a while, Director Zhao handed all responsibilities over to Yu Zheng.

Yu Zheng’s background had been thoroughly investigated the day An Ning agreed to cooperate, or perhaps even earlier.

"Yu Zheng, arrange for An Ning’s rest and meals. If you need anything at all, call me."

Yu Zheng agreed, but replied with some difficulty, "I can guarantee her meals, but I don’t know about rest. I’ll have to follow An Ning’s lead."

"You’re right. But don’t let it affect her health. There’s a doctor on duty here."

Director Zhao introduced Yu Zheng to everyone in the building—security, catering, medical, sanitation—everything was perfectly arranged.

Once Yu Zheng had taken over, Director Zhao departed.

The situation on An Ning’s side had reached a fever pitch.

A group of men and women in their thirties were fired up, as excited as a bunch of children.

Inside the building, a game-changing research and design campaign was in full swing, with the goal of giving the nation its own proprietary technology.

To the outside world, An Ning had taken leave and vanished; no one knew what she was doing.

Meanwhile, Jiang Xia, who had received exclusive information from An Ning, went to find Jiang Dongcheng alone.

「In Beijing, in late September, the leaves began to turn yellow.」

In front of the architecture firm stood two ginkgo trees, their branches laden with brilliant, golden leaves.

The autumn wind carried a light rain. Jiang Xia, dressed in a white suit and holding a black umbrella, stood beneath the ginkgo trees.

It should have been a scene of exquisite beauty, but Jiang Xia radiated a chilling, murderous aura.

The kind of killing intent that would cut down anyone in his way, be they ghost or god.

Shortly before four o’clock, people began to leave work from the building, Jiang Dongcheng among them.

After the last incident, Jiang Dongcheng’s past transgressions were exposed. In a foul mood, he made a mistake at work.

It wasn’t a major error, but it got Jiang Dongcheng demoted to the lowest-ranking staff member.

His former colleagues would point and whisper behind his back. Although no one said anything to his face, the way a room would fall silent whenever he entered left Jiang Dongcheng stewing in silent rage every day.

But even so, he didn’t dare to quit. The last time, when he stole An Ning’s designs and was forced to make a public apology, had made it nearly impossible for him to find a foothold in the design industry again.

Xiao Yan had pulled some strings to get him his current job. How could a man like him be unemployed?

It wasn’t that Jiang Dongcheng had a strong sense of responsibility; he just didn’t want to lose face.

Sullen and dejected, Jiang Dongcheng trailed far behind his colleagues. Before he even stepped outside, he heard them gasp in admiration and exclaim.

"So handsome!"

"Who is that young man?"

"I don’t know. And he’s wearing a white suit?"

"It looks surprisingly good on him."

Jiang Dongcheng emerged from behind the crowd and followed their gaze. Rage flared in his eyes.

’It’s him!’

’How dare he show up here! If it weren’t for him, I wouldn’t have fallen this low!’

Beneath the ginkgo tree, the moment Jiang Xia saw Jiang Dongcheng, a demonic smile bloomed on his face—so beautiful, so tempting.

The kind of temptation that could lure you into an abyss, into an infinite hell.

"Hello, my dear biological father, Mr. Jiang Dongcheng."

Jiang Xia spun the black umbrella in his hand, his voice carrying just loud enough for everyone to hear.

"Are you a little disappointed to see me still alive?"

"Jiang Xia!"

Jiang Dongcheng was furious, but remembering what Xiao Yan had told him, he suppressed his anger and rushed toward Jiang Xia with a look of excitement.

"Jiang Xia—where have you been! I’ve been looking for you for so long!"

"You kid—why do you have to be so infuriating? I’m your real father! Would I ever try to harm you?"

Wearing the expression of a loving father, Jiang Dongcheng opened his arms to embrace Jiang Xia. The act didn’t surprise Jiang Xia in the least.

However, he took a quick step back and snapped his umbrella shut.

SNAP!

As the umbrella closed, its tip pressed against Jiang Dongcheng’s chest.

"Don’t be in such a hurry to play the loving father. Today, I’ve brought you someone you’ve been dreaming of day and night."

"Jiang Xia—I know you’re angry, but your mother passed away. I couldn’t stay alone forever! Even if I remarried, it doesn’t mean I don’t want you anymore."

Jiang Dongcheng ignored Jiang Xia’s words and continued his performance, making Jiang Xia nod in spite of himself.

"Xiao Yan has taught you well."

Jiang Xia took another step back, using the umbrella as a cane. His red lips parted, and a single sentence was all it took to halt Jiang Dongcheng’s movements and his act.

"Jiang Dongcheng, I found our uncle."
