Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission
Chapter 443 - 456: Two HardheadsYin San took out a glass bottle filled with a yellow liquid and placed it between the three of them.
"Looks a little dark."
"True, the color’s a bit dark, but that’s to be expected."
An Ning and Jiang Xia’s commentary on the liquid made the slightly awkward Yin San crack a smile.
An Ning reached for the glass bottle, but Jiang Xia beat her to it. "I’ll take it," he said.
An Ning didn’t mind. She looked at Yin San and asked, "How did you get it?"
Yin San rubbed his head sheepishly. "I watched the place for a few days, found a way into their building, and rigged something in the bathroom. I’ve already set it back to normal."
Hearing this, An Ning gave him a thumbs-up. "Impressive."
Yin San just smiled shyly without saying anything.
An Ning then told Yin San to continue tailing Xiao Xian and to report any unusual activity to her. Yin San slipped out of the hospital discreetly.
Inside the hospital room, Jiang Xia held up the bottle of urine. "What should I do with this?"
"Just set it down for now. I’ll give it to Luo Li later."
Jiang Xia found a place to set it down, then stood by An Ning’s bed. "You know, don’t you think it’s about time we got discharged? I feel fine, no major issues. How about you?"
An Ning lifted her cast-covered leg and gave it a little shake. "Aside from this thing, everything’s back to normal."
The two exchanged a knowing nod and began brainstorming how to convince their families to let them leave the hospital.
Half an hour later, An Ning and Jiang Xia had successfully arranged their discharge. They argued that recovering at home would be more convenient and that staying in a hospital full of germs would just make them sick.
And since Master Tang was staying at An Ning’s house and could conveniently look after them both, Jiang Xia decided to move in as well.
The house was now full.
That evening, Yin Xuemei and a few others stopped by the house to see An Ning and Jiang Xia. They helped with a few chores before leaving.
From her wheelchair, An Ning watched Lin Cuihua sighing and peering out the door. "Mom, what are you looking for?" she asked.
"Sigh... That useless second brother of yours."
"My second brother?"
An Ning glanced around, then gave Lin Cuihua a skeptical look. "Mom, is your eyesight okay? My second brother went back home a few days ago."
Lin Cuihua shut the front door, shot An Ning a sideways glance, and started pushing her wheelchair. "Of course I know he went back. I’m saying your brother’s useless. What does him being gone have to do with anything?"
"Huh?"
An Ning had no idea why Lin Cuihua was suddenly bad-mouthing An Guoming, but sensing her mother’s foul mood, she wisely kept her mouth shut and didn’t press the issue.
Lin Cuihua wheeled An Ning back to her room. Despite An Ning’s strenuous but failed protests, her mother insisted on helping her wash her feet. If An Ning hadn’t stubbornly covered her face, Lin Cuihua would have washed it and brushed her teeth for her as well.
"Mom, I can reach my own face."
"Don’t be shy. I used to wash you all the time when you were little."
Wiping her face with a towel, An Ning retorted, "How is that the same? When I was a kid, I used to make mud pies with my own pee. If I did that for you now, you’d lose your mind."
Lin Cuihua didn’t know whether to laugh or scold An Ning for the outrageous image she’d conjured. Amidst laughter, the mother-daughter pair finished their bedtime routine.
Before turning in, An Ning called the Luo Family to let them know she had something that needed to be tested. Mrs. Luo heard and said she would come pick it up personally.
After the call, An Ning lay in bed, staring at the ceiling. ’Did I forget something?’
She racked her brain for a few minutes, but her mind was a blank.
Calmly, she began to recall her plans from the day of the accident. ’That’s right!’ She remembered.
The original plan was to talk to Jiang Xia, then head out to a specific location to find the electric stone.
To be more precise, it was a matter of hiding it while pretending to look for it.
She had told Director Zhao and the others that the electric stone was an artifact left behind by a great master. Finding it required perfect timing, favorable geography, and harmonious human relations—in other words, reading the Feng Shui and locating the right nexus point.
Furthermore, she had to go alone. Anyone who didn’t understand Feng Shui would only risk damaging the artifact.
This was the best way to avoid interference from others.
Unfortunately, man proposes, but heaven disposes. Her leg was in a cast.
With the healing properties of her spiritual power, an injury like this should heal quickly. But An Ning couldn’t just openly heal herself.
So, she had no choice but to wait.
She couldn’t go after the electric stone for the time being, and the last research and design project was still underway, leaving An Ning with some unexpected free time.
Since she had nothing else to do, she decided to attend a few classes or hit the library tomorrow.
Her mind made up, An Ning closed her eyes and prepared to sleep.
Just as she was drifting off, a fluctuation in her spiritual power made her groggily open her eyes. She saw Xiao Lang at her doorway.
A faint blue glow that only she could see, which hadn’t appeared in a long time, enveloped him. An Ning smiled in relief, knowing she would sleep well tonight.
And sure enough, she slept soundly, without a single dream.
The next morning, An Ning was jolted awake by a commotion. She sat up, pulled open the curtains, and looked outside.
In the yard, An Sancheng, who had been about to walk the dogs, was in a predicament.
There were two leashes. On one end, Xiao Lang was pulling north; on the other, Da Huang was pulling south.
Even though Xiao Lang was at a clear size disadvantage, he was somehow matching Da Huang’s strength, pulling the leashes taut. Caught in the middle, An Sancheng’s arms were stretched straight by the two dogs.
"Oh, for heaven’s sake! Can’t you two just go in the same direction?"
"That’s it, that’s it! I’m letting go!"
An Sancheng’s threat had no effect on the two stubborn beasts. They both turned their heads at the same time, and the moment their eyes met, they started pulling even harder. An Sancheng was stuck, unable to let go but unable to hold on.
"They must have gotten into another fight yesterday."
Grandpa Jiang, who was out for his morning exercise, quickly guessed the reason for their standoff.
Uncle Jiang, exercising alongside him, pushed a wheelchair over. "I don’t get what’s up with these two," he said. "It’s like they have some ancient blood feud."
"Brother Jiang, Uncle Jiang, a little help here!"
An Sancheng didn’t dare let go. The leashes were stretched so tight; what if letting go caused the dogs to get hurt?
Just as An Sancheng was pleading for help, Jiang Xia came out. "I’ll handle Da Huang," he said.
Jiang Xia stepped forward, grabbed one of the leashes, and gave Da Huang a subtle nod.
Da Huang, not having seen Jiang Xia for a long time, immediately eased up on the leash and bounded over to him, jumping around excitedly.
Jiang Xia used his good arm—the one not in a cast—to hug Da Huang’s neck. He staggered back from the force of the pounce. "Whoa, Da Huang! What have they been feeding you on the sly?"
"WOOF! WOOF! WOOF!"
Da Huang barked up a storm, repeatedly glancing back at Xiao Lang and even pointing at him with a front paw.
This display made everyone in the yard laugh.
"Looks like our Da Huang is tattling."
"Definitely. He went and got backup."
The object of this complaint, Xiao Lang, glanced in Da Huang’s direction before nimbly leaping onto the windowsill of An Ning’s room.
TAP! TAP! TAP! Xiao Lang pawed at the window. An Ning, who had been enjoying the spectacle, nodded knowingly. It was her cue to enter the scene.
