Interstellar to 80s: A Scientist's Farming Mission
Chapter 456 - 470: Can Be Big or SmallInside, An Ning hesitated for a moment before projecting her spiritual power outward. She saw many figures but couldn’t be sure which one it was.
She retracted her spiritual power, sitting in her wheelchair, lost in thought.
’Twice now.’
She had been spied on twice in total. But each time, the person retreated extremely quickly, as if they could predict her actions.
Because of the existence of those top-tier powerhouses, An Ning didn’t dare to underestimate anyone.
Even though she had her spiritual power as a cheat, she still couldn’t look down on anyone.
"Awooo—"
Seeing that An Ning wasn’t moving, Xiao Lang let out a low whine as a reminder.
An Ning looked down, picked up Xiao Lang, placed him on her lap, and soothed him by stroking his back.
"Tell me, what kind of breed are you, really?"
"It’s been so long, and you still haven’t grown."
The second reason An Ning didn’t dare to be careless was Xiao Lang.
If a mutated breed could appear among wolves like Xiao Lang, then what about humans?
The probability wasn’t very high, but the field of Mysticism held many unknowns.
"Hey, what are you doing?"
Xiao Lang struggled and jumped off An Ning’s lap. Before her eyes, his body began to glow with a blue light.
The blue light swirled around Xiao Lang. Within the glow, his body gradually grew larger.
It was still the same adorable wolf face, just expanding proportionally before An Ning’s eyes.
’He can freely control his size.’
An Ning’s spiritual power instantly enveloped the courtyard, blocking any prying eyes from the outside.
"Change back, quickly."
Xiao Lang gave An Ning a look that said, ’I really don’t get you,’ and slowly changed back.
The blue light vanished, and An Ning hugged Xiao Lang once more.
"Unless it’s a dangerous situation, you’re not allowed to transform, understand? Especially in front of outsiders. Be careful, or they’ll catch you and slice you up for research."
"Even I don’t dare to draw attention to myself. See my leg? An injury that shouldn’t have happened, happened. It was supposed to heal, but it can’t. And let me tell you, there’s no such thing as a wolf that knows Feng Shui."
At least she had her reputation in Feng Shui to act as a cover, and her master’s prestigious name had also shielded her from a lot.
Otherwise, beyond being a "genius" or "intelligent," she couldn’t really reveal much more.
"Whimper—"
Xiao Lang reluctantly lay in An Ning’s arms, behaving himself.
"I’m not scolding you, it’s just really dangerous. If you’re discovered, you’ll be sliced up piece by piece, just like the lamb we ate today."
It’s unclear if An Ning’s vivid description worked, but Xiao Lang’s eyes gradually widened. Finally, he flinched and hid in An Ning’s arms.
"Alright, don’t be scared. As long as you behave, nothing will happen to you."
After calming Xiao Lang, An Ning removed the spiritual power barrier and went into her room to rest.
With the help of Xiao Lang’s unique ability, An Ning had another night of good sleep.
The next day, a refreshed An Ning woke up naturally. She washed up, changed her clothes, and prepared to make herself something to eat.
Her cooking skills weren’t great, but she figured she could at least manage to fry an egg.
Just as she reached the kitchen doorway, before she could even go in, there was a knock on the door.
’They’re here so early?’
An Ning started to wheel her chair toward the door, but then, thinking it was too slow, she simply hopped over on one leg to open it.
"Why are you here so early?"
"Huh? What are you doing here?"
It wasn’t Zhou Xiaoshan outside the door as An Ning had expected, but Jiang Xia.
"Wait, where’s your wheelchair?"
Jiang Xia reached out to support An Ning, but she dodged him by hopping backward, landing smoothly in her wheelchair. "With my level of power, who needs a wheelchair?"
"Right, right, you’re so powerful. You’re number one in heaven and on earth, happy now?"
Jiang Xia held up the food container in his hand and said to An Ning, who was nodding in agreement:
"Didn’t I say I’d cook for you? How could I, the great Young Master Jiang, go back on my word?"
Jiang Xia was clearly bringing her food out of kindness, but he had to phrase it with such arrogance.
Fortunately, An Ning understood and was familiar with this pattern. She actually quite enjoyed bantering with Jiang Xia.
"Come on, let me see what’s on the menu today."
"What’s on the menu? What... if you’re not satisfied, are you not going to eat it?"
Jiang Xia opened the container to let An Ning see the food inside.
"How could I not? I’ll just eat one less bite, at most."
Bantering back and forth, they set the table together. There were small scallion flower rolls, congee with century egg and lean pork with extra toppings, a side of cold shredded potato salad, and a dish of pickled vegetables in sauce. It was a simple meal, but the portions were huge.
They started eating, competitively going back and forth. If you took one, I had to take one—they were as childish as a couple of kids.
After she was full, An Ning casually tossed something to Jiang Xia.
"What’s this?"
Jiang Xia caught it instinctively. He opened his palm, looked at it, and then stared speechlessly at An Ning.
"It’s your tip."
"Your family gives jadeite as tips?!"
"Yep. That’s just how my family rolls."
An Ning chuckled. "Just take it. I have plenty of this stuff."
Seeing a familiar scene play out, Jiang Xia stopped her. "Stop. I don’t want to know how much you have. I’m afraid I might murder you for your money."
"Hahahaha, murder me for my money?" An Ning laughed, then retorted, "I think it’s more likely you’d end up losing both me and the money."
Jiang Xia muttered a few words under his breath, but not loud enough to be heard, then turned and took the dishes to the kitchen to clean up.
"Hey, what did you say?"
An Ning pressed, but Jiang Xia, his back to her, just made something up. "I said, you just finished the food I made, aren’t you afraid I poisoned it?"
Sitting in her wheelchair, An Ning, for the first time, actually found herself counting on her fingers.
"That’s not right. It didn’t sound that long."
Jiang Xia, who was already washing the dishes, repeated in his heart: ’I actually wish I would... lose both the person and the money.’
After washing the dishes, Jiang Xia walked out, wiping the water from his hands, and said as if he’d just remembered something, "You’re doing the dishes next time."
"No problem!"
An Ning agreed readily. Since Jiang Xia had cooked, it was only right that she do the dishes.
Jiang Xia left Anning’s house carrying the food container and ran right into Zhou Xiaoshan, who was just about to knock.
But the expression on Zhou Xiaoshan’s face was very strange.
"Have you been here long?"
Seeing Zhou Xiaoshan nod, Jiang Xia said in a low voice, "Don’t say anything."
Zhou Xiaoshan curled his lip and replied with a haughty look, "As if I was going to give her a hint!"
The arrogant Zhou Xiaoshan changed his expression in the blink of an eye, calling out to An Ning with the utmost respect, "Master, I’m here."
"If you’re here, then come in."
Zhou Xiaoshan went in, and Jiang Xia came out.
Once inside, Zhou Xiaoshan obediently held out both his hands, prompting An Ning to ask, "What are you doing?"
"Aren’t you going to assign me homework?"
"Did you really think I’d call you over this early in the morning just to give you homework?"
Zhou Xiaoshan lowered his hands and said, not too quietly, "Well, it wouldn’t be the first time."
"Hehe, Master, then why did you call me here?"
Zhou Xiaoshan quickly backed down, his attitude becoming humble and respectful as he asked.
"Xiao Shan, I have two pieces of good news to tell you."
"First, starting today, you have no more homework, and you don’t have to go to school anymore."
Zhou Xiaoshan didn’t get happy too soon. He had a feeling the real point was in the second piece of "good" news.
"Master, why don’t you just tell me the second... ’good’... news?"
