Chapter 174 | Strange Diary…Chapter 174: 174 | Strange Diary...
"Ding!"
Dexter’s phone rang and he caught a glimpse of the message.
It was credit apart and from the hero association.
[Bank Account: $1,200,556]
Dexter immediately smiled. "Perfect."
The payment for his official promotion and licensing had finally arrived.
"1.2 million should be enough to purchase a house, right?" he muttered, glancing at the billboard photo on his phone.
The idea continued to grow.
By the time he pulled up in front of his bungalow, it had evolved from a vague notion into a genuine plan and a goal he could look forward too.
’And maybe while I’m at it, I should also change my surname.’
Dexter arrived at the front of his bungalow. He parked the car and climbed out.
There were a few people walking around the neighborhood.
Dexter smiled and nodded at a few and they actually smiled and waved back at him which took him by surprise.
’When did they suddenly become nice?’
He shook his head and opened the gate, retrieving the construction materials from his spatial storage and stacking the window frame, glass panel, drywall, insulation, trim, and tool bag neatly against the exterior wall.
Then he walked to the front door, unlocked it, stepped inside, and closed it behind him.
"I’m home," he called out.
Mira was in her wheelchair by the boarded-up window with her eyes were closed, cultivating.
Lyra was on the couch with her legs were crossed beneath her in a meditation posture.
The Primordial Beast Egg rested in her lap with the AI glasses on her face.
Her eyes were closed which meant she was cultivating as well, but the moment Dexter’s voice reached her AI glasses, it vibrated and Lyra opened her eyes.
She frowned confusion at first, then turned her head to the door.
A faint smile touched her lips and she raised one hand from the egg and waved.
’Welcome back.’
Her cute voice rang out in his mind. Dexter smiled. "Thank you."
He looked at Mira but she hadn’t moved bro had she opened her eyes or acknowledged his existence in any way.
He smirked and considered saying something but he decided against it and walked to the front window and began removing the wooden planks he had nailed up the day before.
Sunlight poured through the empty window frame suddenly, slamming directly against Mira’s face, bathing her closed eyelids in warm, golden light.
Mira’s face scrunched up in a frown as she opened her eyes.
She squinted against the brightness, her crimson irises contracting to pinpoints.
Through the sun ray, she saw Dexter standing in front of the window with a pry bar in one hand and a wooden plank in the other.
He was looking down at her smiling.
’Since you’re pretending not here, how about now?’
Mira glared at him.
But dexter simply smiled as he pulled the last plank free and set it aside.
Mira’s Spectral Arms appeared behind her as one of them reached for the wheel of her chair.
Then with astonishing proficiency, she wheeled herself backward, away from the window, and away from Dexter’s insufferable grin.
"Hmph!"
She snorted and moved her self to the far edge of the living room, turning her back to him.
Dexter chuckled.
’Finally got a reaction out of her.’
---
He spent the next hour repairing the window.
Removing the damaged frame, cleaned the opening, installed the new frame with fresh fasteners, fitted the tempered glass panel into place, and sealed the edges with weatherproof caulking.
He patched the interior wall with new drywall, taped and mudded the seams, and applied a quick coat of paint that matched the surrounding wall.
When he was done, the window looked even better than before.
He was cleaning up his tools when a thought struck him.
’The beds and the weapons.’
All three girls were out of the bedroom.
Mira was in the dining room, Lyra was on the couch and Selene was in the backyard.
Right now, their bedroom was empty.
Which meant he could finally change the beds.
He had been meaning to do this for days but one of them were always in the room or it slipped his mind but now, he could change them.
He walked to the bedroom and pushed the door open.
The room wasn’t very large but it was enough to fit the three beds.
This was one of the reasons he wanted to change their place.
The three girls can’t possible live in one room forever. They would need their own personal space to do their own thing.
Lyra’s weapon was on her bed.
Mira’s weapon was on the stand beside her bed and Selene’s weapon was on the dresser.
Dexter flipped his hand and Three Type-6 weapons materialized on the bed in front of him.
He immediately swapped them, replacing each Type-3 weapon with its upgraded Type-6 counterpart in the exact same position.
The Type-6 versions looked similar to their predecessors at a glance.
Same general shape, basic design but the mana density radiating from them was orders of magnitude higher.
If any of the girls picked up their weapon and channeled even a thread of mana into it, they would immediately feel the difference.
’That would be for later.’
Now the beds.
He pulled the first mattress off the frame and leaned it against the wall. He retrieved the new mattress from his spatial storage.
He positioned the first new mattress on the frame, fitted it with fresh sheets and a new pillow, and moved to the second bed and repeated the exact same thing.
Then he moved to the third bed.
It sas Lyra’s. The sheets were wrinkled and slightly greasy from the chips she ate while cultivating. He gathered the corners of the fitted sheet and pulled it free from the mattress.
"Thump!"
Something fell.
It dropped from inside the folded sheet.
"Uhn?"
Dexter set the sheet aside and looked down.
What was on the floor was a book. The book was much thicker than a normal book with leather cover and no printed words.
’A diary?’
As it fell, it had open to a page near the middle.
Dexter picked it up and his eyes landed on the first few lines. His brows instantly furrowed and his eyes widened slightly.
