Chapter 689: Chapter 682: True River Realm

「Secret Inspection Bureau, Underground Secure Room.」

Two towering crystalline forms stood in the center of the secure room. Within them were Bodugu and Nainte, sealed after Zhou Yuanjue drained their energy and beat them senseless, leaving them with no power to resist.

Inside the sealing crystals, the two beings’ forms were horribly twisted. Their protective carapaces were severely damaged, their bodies so contorted they resembled modern abstract oil paintings. One could only imagine the brutal beating they had endured.

Even now, a look of frozen indignation could be seen on their faces.

All traces of their High level Life arrogance were gone.

Currently, the only two figures in the secure room were Zhou Yuanjue and Zhou Ji, standing before the two giant, transparent crystals.

The battle had nearly depleted Zhou Yuanjue’s energy reserves. He had been somewhat suppressed in the direct confrontation, ultimately winning by relying on his superior reserves to fight a war of attrition.

This proved that a true True Realm Life was indeed far stronger than a life-form that had yet to fully transform. No wonder the two of them had been so arrogant at first.

"So? Can you tell if these two belong to that ’Blazing Fire’ you were talking about?"

Zhou Yuanjue asked, turning to Zhou Ji beside him.

"I don’t think so. They don’t have Blazing Fire’s almost terrifying aura of destruction. They can’t be the vanguards Blazing Fire sent to investigate Earth."

Zhou Ji shook her head and frowned, looking at the two life-forms inside the crystals before them.

Not long ago, when she sensed an unknown presence in outer space near Earth, she had been incredibly nervous, suspecting they might be pursuers from Blazing Fire.

When she sensed they were two fully transformed True Realm Life forms, that nervousness had turned into outright panic.

But she never expected that Zhou Yuanjue would actually capture both of these True Realm Life forms before they even landed on Earth...

After all, they themselves had fled back then precisely because they couldn’t withstand the pressure from True Realm Life.

And during their most dangerous period, the highest number of True Realm Life forms they had ever faced was only three.

"They aren’t? Looks like they might have been telling the truth, then."

Zhou Yuanjue said, pondering her words.

"What did they say?"

Zhou Ji asked.

"They claimed to be guides from a High level Civilization, messengers sent to spread the gospel to our civilization. In short, they had a very condescending attitude. I could see they were powerful, but they didn’t seem very sincere, and I couldn’t immediately determine who they were. So, I figured the only thing to do was subdue them first."

Zhou Yuanjue said.

’You make it sound so simple, as if I could do it too...’

Zhou Ji snarked internally, then said thoughtfully, "Guides from a High level Civilization? We do seem to have heard legends and gathered some intelligence about that."

"In the depths of the True Realm, there are many unimaginably powerful civilizations and organizations. They maintain order in this part of the universe, ensuring it develops in a positive direction instead of being destroyed by conflicts between civilizations."

"For Low level Civilizations, once a being appears who is qualified to contact the True Realm—that is, a True Realm Life—they are detected by a corresponding exploration system. This triggers a guidance mechanism to help these civilizations transition from the material plane to the True Realm plane."

"Didn’t you say before that there are facilities on Earth left behind by a High level Civilization? It’s possible your power reached a certain limit, or that the energy levels from your battle with us crossed a threshold. That could have alerted the High level Civilization that left the facilities, triggering their guidance mechanism."

Zhou Yuanjue nodded. "Now that you mention it, that’s very possible. In any case, let’s just partially release the seal on one of them. We’ll find out for sure by asking."

He then turned to look at the two towering crystals.

One was the barbed life-form, Bodugu.

The other was the winged life-form, Nainte.

Between the two of them, during both the fight and their conversation, the winged one seemed to be the leader...

Zhou Yuanjue slowly stepped forward until he was before the winged life-form’s sealing crystal, then extended his hand.

SLOSH! SLOSH!!

A portion of the sealing crystal melted, exposing the winged life-form’s head while the rest of its body remained encased. This would allow it to regain consciousness without escaping the seal, ensuring a swift countermeasure was possible.

The winged life-form’s head trembled slightly. Then, it seemed to awaken from the dazed state of its sealing, its head turning to look at Zhou Yuanjue as if recalling something.

"A misunderstanding!!!"

"It’s all a misunderstanding!!"

"Sir!! Master!! It’s all a huge misunderstanding!!"

A psychic message, filled with a desperate and miserable roar, instantly burst from Nainte’s mind and echoed in the minds of Zhou Yuanjue and Zhou Ji.

Uhh...

The expression on Zhou Ji’s face froze. She apparently hadn’t expected this True Realm Life to be so shameless.

Even Zhou Yuanjue was a bit surprised. ’Wasn’t he so arrogant before? How did he end up like this in the blink of an eye?’

To Nainte, this was nothing. The True Realm was full of beings far stronger than him. His golden rule for getting by in the True River Realm was simple: if you can win, act as tough as you can; if you can’t, be as cowardly as possible.

In fact, he had wanted to beg for mercy toward the end of the fight, but Zhou Yuanjue’s attacks had been so ferocious that he hadn’t even been able to get a complete telepathic plea out.

"We have no malicious intent!"

"We represent the True River Pan-universe Alliance! We were commissioned by the Sacred Lotus Civilization to guide you into the True Realm and the depths of the universe. There must have been a misunderstanding just now. We truly came with good intentions!"

Nainte hurriedly continued his telepathic message to Zhou Yuanjue. He was terrified that if Zhou Yuanjue got annoyed, he would seal him up again and toss him into the turbulent currents of the True Realm. Who knows how long it would be before he saw the light of day again—if he wasn’t devoured by some malevolent True Realm monster first.

"The True River Pan-universe Alliance?"

Hearing this name, Zhou Yuanjue exchanged a glance with Zhou Ji.

"Give me the details. If you hide anything, you can forget about ever waking up again. We have eleven more just like you in our lab."

Zhou Yuanjue said to Nainte.

"The True River Pan-universe Alliance is essentially the True River Realm. The so-called True River Realm is a vast territory spanning nearly three hundred million light-years, encompassing both the Material Universe and the True Realm’s space. Hundreds of millions of years ago, the three great civilizations of the True River Realm took the lead, and with the participation of countless True Realm Civilizations and organizations, they established the True River Pan-universe Alliance. They also formulated the basic Laws governing communication and interaction among the universe’s many races."
