Chapter 658: Chapter 616: A Head
Skirmishes, both large and small, were constantly breaking out on the streets and in the alleys of Wencheng. The conflict between humans and Demons had become an utterly commonplace affair.
The common folk had grown numb to it all. ’What kind of world is this? It’s just too bizarre.’
However, the greatest battle in Wencheng was one that the world could not see.
The outer perimeter of the Demon Prison had almost completely collapsed. The ancient prison was, in the end, utterly destroyed.
But in the prison’s deepest recesses, an isolated space remained. From within, a contemptuous and domineering voice rang out.
"Six-eyed Golden Lion, I am the Snake King, and I’m asking you: do you submit?"
Inside this space, a terrifying, scale-covered snake tail was wrapped around a thirty-foot-tall fiend, suspending it in mid-air. A closer look revealed the fiend to be none other than the Six-eyed Golden Lion.
The Six-eyed Golden Lion was now covered in wounds, a wretched sight to behold. It had clearly suffered significant injuries. Even so, it still radiated a bleak, murderous aura, its hostile energy growing even thicker.
Tracing the snake tail to its source, one would find it belonged to a refined-looking young man. The terrifying, seemingly endless tail grew from his back, giving him an incredibly bizarre appearance.
By now, the battle between Tu Xiao’an and the Six-eyed Golden Lion had already raged for over two hours.
The outcome was clear. A victor had been decided.
Faced with Tu Xiao’an’s earth-shattering techniques, especially once he got truly serious and even sprouted a snake tail to fight, the Six-eyed Golden Lion stood no chance.
The pitiful Six-eyed Golden Lion had never imagined that a snake could be so powerful. It had yet to see the light of day again, yet to achieve its dream of Ruling the World, and it was already being brutalized. Now, it hung suspended in mid-air by the snake tail, trapped and unable to resist.
"Submit, my ass! You lowly snake! So what if you defeated me? You can’t kill me!" Even in captivity, the Six-eyed Golden Lion had lost none of its domineering presence. Its savagery and resentment were palpable.
’Imprisoned for a thousand years... have the times changed this much? I can’t even defeat a mere snake now? Can someone please explain this to me?’
Tu Xiao’an sneered at the Six-eyed Golden Lion. "I never said I was going to kill you. I only said I would subdue you and make you my Battle Companion."
"Battle Companion? HA HA... Aren’t you getting ahead of yourself, you snake?" The Six-eyed Golden Lion almost wanted to use the old saying about a toad lusting after a swan, but on second thought, the metaphor didn’t quite fit.
So it had to settle for calling him delusional.
Tu Xiao’an knew the Six-eyed Golden Lion wouldn’t submit so easily, and he was in no rush. With a twitch of the massive snake tail behind him, he violently slammed the creature into the ground. The impact shook the very earth and left a massive crater in its wake.
The Six-eyed Golden Lion cried out in pain as it was hoisted back into the air.
"Stubbornness is useless. I, Tu Xiao’an, have never failed to claim a Battle Companion I wanted."
BOOM... BOOM... BOOM!
Tu Xiao’an controlled his tail, repeatedly smashing the Six-eyed Golden Lion into the ground. The beast’s Life Force was simply too potent; it would be impossible to subdue it without beating it to within an inch of its life.
And yet, no matter how brutally Tu Xiao’an thrashed it, the beast’s Life Force remained as vibrant as ever.
Aside from looking more disheveled, it seemed largely unaffected.
"Six-eyed Golden Lion, submit! Otherwise, you will never see the light of day again," Tu Xiao’an said coldly.
After the relentless bombardment, the Six-eyed Golden Lion was hoisted into the air once more, yet it only laughed maniacally. "You lowly snake! Me, submit to a snake like you? Never! If you’ve got the guts, then kill me!"
"You’re courting death!"
Tu Xiao’an gripped his Heaven Swaying Sword. With a few swings, terrifying blasts of Sword Qi raked across the Six-eyed Golden Lion’s body.
Bloody gashes appeared one after another beneath its golden fur.
"Yes! That feels great! More!" the Six-eyed Golden Lion shrieked, its body pulsing with Demon Qi. Its six eyes shimmered with an eerie light, striking fear into any who beheld them.
"Madman." Tu Xiao’an frowned. ’This is getting tricky. Defeating it is easy. Killing it is easy. But subduing it is proving far too difficult. Is this Six-eyed Golden Lion really not afraid of death?’
’Or is it just idiotic enough to believe it’s truly indestructible?’
With a mere thought, Tu Xiao’an’s tail yanked the Six-eyed Golden Lion right in front of him, close enough for his sword to touch.
"I don’t have the patience to waste on you. I’ll ask you one last time: submit or die."
As his words faded, he pressed the Heaven Swaying Sword directly against the Six-eyed Golden Lion’s neck, his heart filled with hidden killing intent.
"Go on, kill me! I was imprisoned by humans for a thousand years. Not only did I survive, but I even broke through to the realm of a Deep Mountain Demon King! I should be Ruling the World, but instead I lost to a mere snake. It’s the ultimate humiliation! Just kill me!"
The Six-eyed Golden Lion descended into a frenzy, roaring and shrieking. It couldn’t even defeat a Cultivated Creature like this snake—how could it possibly talk about Ruling the World? Its pride was shattered. It no longer wanted to live.
Tu Xiao’an, however, was stunned. He was caught in a dilemma. The Six-eyed Golden Lion’s apparent death wish made the situation rather awkward for him.
’Generally, the higher a Cultivated Creature’s Cultivation, the less they want to die—and the more they fear death. All the Battle Companions I’ve subdued before only submitted when faced with a mortal threat.’
’Who would choose death if they could live?’
Tu Xiao’an didn’t buy it. He refused to believe the Six-eyed Golden Lion was so unafraid of death. ’It must be bluffing, betting that I won’t actually kill it.’
’Or does it simply believe I’m incapable of killing it?’
"Hmph. If you want to die, then I, the Snake King, will grant your wish. And don’t think things will be easy for you when you get to the Underworld!" Tu Xiao’an’s killing intent boiled over, erupting like a hurricane. The Heaven Swaying Sword in his hand let out a crisp hum, a sound filled with bloodthirsty glee.
Immediately, a blinding light erupted from the blade’s edge, as if vying with the heavens and the earth themselves.
At that moment, a sharp light glinted in Tu Xiao’an’s demonic eyes. He raised the Heaven Swaying Sword and, with his killing intent laid bare, swung it down toward the Six-eyed Golden Lion’s head.
