Invincible Starting From the Nine Dragons Technique
Chapter 303: Martial Emperor’s LegacyAt the same time, Su Mo arrived at the Giant Sword Sect.
Before the great hall, a group of people stood in neat formation, their expressions solemn. They seemed to be preparing to welcome some important figure.
Banners and flags flanked them, numerous enough to block out the sun.
Leading them was none other than the Sect Leader of the Giant Sword Sect.
The Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader stepped forward, his sharp gaze sweeping over the crowd as he searched for Elder Su.
Soon, a disappointed look crossed his face.
"What is the meaning of this, Elder Lei? Did I not order you to welcome Elder Su? Why have you brought back a pack of nobodies?" the Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader said with disgust.
In his mind, Elder Su ought to be a dazzling figure with an extraordinary bearing and the air of an immortal, someone who would stand out in a crowd at a single glance.
But as it turned out, not a single person among them caught his eye.
There were quite a few Martial Emperors in the group, more than a dozen in fact, but they were all newcomers who had only recently advanced to that realm.
Yang Bo included.
Ordinarily, he might have exchanged some pleasantries with these newly-promoted Martial Emperors, but today, he had no mind for such courtesies.
This was Elder Su’s birthday celebration, after all.
He had no time to bother with anyone but Elder Su.
As for the younger generation...
Although they were around the same age as Elder Su, most were merely Martial Artists or Martial Monarchs. They couldn’t even compare to a single strand of Elder Su’s hair.
However, Thunder Punishment jumped in fright.
’Nobodies?’
’What kind of reckless talk is that?’
’The last person who looked down on Elder Su and called him trash was poked to death by one of Elder Su’s fingers.’
"Hmph, what are you standing there in a daze for? Hurry up and go welcome Elder Su."
The Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader snorted, then glanced at Su Mo and the others. "As for these... uh..."
SMACK!
Thunder Punishment quickly clamped a hand over the Sect Leader’s mouth, terrified that he would once again utter those reckless words about ’nobodies’.
"Mmph! Mmph! Mmph!"
The Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader’s face turned beet red from the strain.
’What the hell are you covering my mouth for?’ he wanted to ask, but Thunder Punishment held it shut so tightly that he could only make muffled noises.
Thunder Punishment quickly pointed at Su Mo and said, "Sect Leader, this *is* Elder Su."
"What?"
The Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader stared at Su Mo in astonishment.
’His bearing isn’t that extraordinary, is it?’
’His cultivation...’
The Sect Leader was just about to probe Su Mo’s cultivation, but the moment his gaze met Su Mo’s, he broke out in a cold sweat.
’This isn’t a person, is he?’
’He’s clearly an abyssal beast.’
Only then did he realize why Thunder Punishment had covered his mouth—he was afraid the Sect Leader would say the wrong thing.
THUD!
The Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader dropped to his knees in terror.
Huh?
Su Mo stared blankly at the Giant Sword Sect’s Sect Leader.
’Kneeling right after we meet?’
’Is this some kind of custom in the Central Profound Domain?’
Su Mo asked in confusion, "Brother Yang, are the customs in your Central Profound Domain always this formal?"
"Well..."
Yang Bin frantically wiped the cold sweat from his brow.
’This isn’t a custom at all.’
’He’s just scared of you.’
He didn’t dare say that out loud, however, so he could only stammer, "The people of our Central Profound Domain are just like that. We value etiquette, and we value relationships."
"So, should I give him a red packet?" Su Mo asked.
Yang Bin replied woodenly, "I... I suppose you should."
Su Mo fished two Middle-Grade Spirit Stones out of his Storage Ring, put them in a cloth pouch, and handed it to the Sect Leader. "My apologies, I wasn’t aware the customs in the Central Profound Domain were so serious. I didn’t prepare anything, so just take these two Middle-Grade Spirit Stones as a red packet."
"A red packet?"
The Sect Leader was baffled.
Su Mo frowned. "Is my red packet too small? You don’t want it?"
"I do, I do, I do!"
The Sect Leader hurriedly accepted it, receiving the red packet with utmost respect. "Many thanks for Elder Su’s gift."
"Get up," Su Mo grumbled. "The customs in your Central Profound Domain are way too much. An old man like you kneeling to a young man like me and even asking for a red packet... Aren’t you trying to shorten my lifespan?"
’Good thing I had two Middle-Grade Spirit Stones stashed away, or I wouldn’t have had anything to give in return.’
’People who didn’t know better would have thought I was stingy.’
The Sect Leader rose and said, "Elder Su, please, take a seat!"
"Alright."
Su Mo was invited to sit at the head of the table.
The Sect Leader said with an obsequious smile, "Elder Su, your esteemed presence at our Giant Sword Sect brings us immense honor."
"Your Excellency, the Sect Leader, I should be the one thanking the Giant Sword Sect for hosting such a grand birthday celebration for me," Su Mo said with a smile.
The Sect Leader wiped away his cold sweat. "Elder Su, please, you mustn’t call me ’Your Excellency’. It makes me nervous."
"Then what should I call you?"
Su Mo’s expression remained calm, but inwardly, he was complaining nonstop.
’The customs in the Central Profound Domain are so damn troublesome.’
’It’s making me look so impolite.’
The Sect Leader chuckled. "My surname is Lu, and my name is Lujiang Qu. If you don’t mind, you can just call me Xiaolu."
"Xiaolu?"
Su Mo gave the Sect Leader a strange look.
’A nineteen-year-old like me calling an uncle in his forties ’Xiaolu’... How damn awkward is that?’
’Oh, whatever.’
’When in Rome, do as the Romans do.’
Su Mo said, "Xiaolu, hurry up and bring out the food. We’ve been traveling for a few days and are getting a little hungry."
"Right away!"
With a grand wave of his hand, Lujiang Qu ordered the dishes to be served. They were all exotic delicacies from the mountains and seas, the likes of which Su Mo had never seen.
Su Mo didn’t stand on ceremony and began to dig in. "Come, Brother Yang, let’s have a toast."
"Cheers!"
Yang Bin drank his cup with a trembling hand.
Lujiang Qu asked in a low voice, "Brother Yang Bo, you know Elder Su?"
"We met him on the road!"
Yang Bo answered honestly, recounting the story of how they had encountered Su Mo.
Lujiang Qu mused, "So from the sound of it, Elder Su is actually quite amiable. Not only is he on brotherly terms with Yang Bin, but he even gave me a red packet."
"Amiable?"
Yang Bo said wryly, "That’s because you haven’t seen him when he’s ruthless."
"What do you mean?" Lujiang Qu asked curiously.
Yang Bo lowered his voice. "Just now, at the foot of the mountain, Old Monster Feng and Nie Lang provoked Elder Su a few times, and he killed them on the spot."
"What? Old Monster Feng is dead?"
Lujiang Qu was so stunned he was left speechless.
Old Monster Feng was an expert on the same level as him.
Yang Bo nodded. "Poked to death with a single finger. He even picked up Old Monster Feng’s Storage Ring in front of everyone and said he was going to ’kill for treasure’."
"Holy crap, he’s that ruthless?"
Lujiang Qu jumped in fright.
Yang Bo warned him, "Serving a master is like accompanying a tiger. Sect Leader Lu, you’d best be more discreet from now on. Whatever you do, don’t say the wrong thing, or you’ll die a very, very miserable death."
"I understand!"
Lujiang Qu raised his cup. "Thank you for the kind reminder, Brother Yang. I’ll drink to that."
"Cheers!"
Yang Bo drained his cup in one go.
Lujiang Qu turned his head and asked, "Elder Wen, has everyone arrived?"
Elder Wen replied, "Everyone is here except for Elder Li, Hu Yidao, Nian Jiu, and a few others. Sun Cultivator has also arrived."
"Sun Cultivator? What is he doing here?"
Lujiang Qu’s brow furrowed.
Yang Bo asked curiously, "You didn’t invite Sun Cultivator?"
Lujiang Qu shook his head. "To be honest, a hundred years ago in Emperor Heaven Valley, Sun Cultivator and I fought to the death over a certain Treasure. I offended him, and we haven’t had any contact in all these years."
"Emperor Heaven Valley?"
Yang Bo said in surprise, "If I recall correctly, aren’t there nine Martial Emperor experts buried within Emperor Heaven Valley?"
Lujiang Qu nodded. "That’s right. The ultimate treasure Sun Cultivator and I fought over was left behind by one of those Martial Emperors."
Hiss...
Yang Bo sucked in a cold breath. "A Martial Emperor’s Legacy?"
