Invincible through Touching Corpses
Chapter 574 - 571: Recruiting Them AllOf course, Lin Xinghai had no idea that his fame was skyrocketing.
After an afternoon of classes, he left East Sea Academy with Liu Miaomiao. They had dinner, went shopping, and saw a movie, enjoying some private time together. Of course, finding a hotel that night to properly reconnect was unavoidable.
The next morning, when Lin Xinghai returned to the academy, Little Fatty found him before he even had a chance to look for him.
"Boss, you’re finally back! It was easy for you to just leave yesterday, but we were up until midnight!" Little Fatty said with a woeful expression, handing a thick stack of files to Lin Xinghai.
"What’s this?" Lin Xinghai asked curiously as he took the files. He casually flipped through a couple of pages and saw they were all personal profiles.
"After you dominated the rankings yesterday, the number of people wanting to join our Xinghai Squad exploded. These are all their applications," Little Fatty explained.
"This many?" Lin Xinghai was also a little surprised. He estimated there were at least 500 applications in the stack.
"It couldn’t be helped. You were in seclusion last week, so the selection process got delayed."
"Besides, everyone knows our squad only has 10 spots left. This is the last chance, so they’re all fighting tooth and nail to get in." Little Fatty shrugged, but he couldn’t hide the look of pride and satisfaction on his face.
Now that Lin Xinghai was famous, he, the vice captain, could also ride on his coattails a bit.
He recalled all the people from yesterday, shamelessly flattering him, and a thrill of satisfaction washed over him.
Lin Xinghai knew he had been a rather irresponsible captain. He cleared his throat quietly and started to seriously look through the files.
Then, a look of surprise gradually appeared on his face.
In the thick stack of files, the very first name was actually Yan Feijie. He kept flipping, and the second was Yuan Zheng, followed by Qiu Liang, Hong Xiuyuan, and Jiang Zijin.
"Well, I’ll be. They all applied?" It would be a lie to say Lin Xinghai wasn’t surprised.
Including Qian Xingxiu, who had joined earlier, all the Special Class Students from this year had now joined his Xinghai Squad.
"Hehe, Boss, I guess you could say we’ve set a record," Little Fatty said with a grin.
"Yes, we have. Alright, we’ll take these five. I’ll leave the remaining five spots for you to fill. Pick some promising first-years." Lin Xinghai only glanced at the first few names before handing the thick stack of files back to Little Fatty.
Little Fatty was stunned to hear Lin Xinghai say this.
He never imagined that Lin Xinghai would entrust him with such an important responsibility.
It might only be five spots, but if Little Fatty recruited those people himself, they would surely be indebted to him.
With the support of five more people, his position as vice captain would be that much more secure.
Most vice captains didn’t have the authority to select members. The fact that Lin Xinghai was doing this clearly showed how much he approved of him as his vice captain.
"Alright, stop spacing out. Are all the pre-mission preparations arranged? Go notify Yan Feijie and the others. We’re heading out on a mission right away to earn more Credit Points," Lin Xinghai said, patting the still-dazed Little Fatty on the shoulder.
"They’re ready! Boss, just a moment. I’ll tell them to come over," Little Fatty said, his face flush with excitement.
...
Ten minutes later, all the members of the Xinghai Squad had assembled at the entrance of the Mission Hall.
Yan Feijie and the others were, of course, among them.
They were actually a bit bewildered. After all, they had only submitted their applications the previous night. They never expected to be heading out on a mission first thing this morning—the pace was just too fast.
However, they quickly collected themselves. After exchanging glances, a look of excitement began to dawn in the eyes of Special Class Students like Yan Feijie and Yuan Zheng.
Why had they joined the Xinghai Squad? To go on missions and earn more Credit Points, of course!
Besides, they’d heard that the Xinghai Squad earned a massive amount of Credit Points on every mission. This undoubtedly meant they could expect a huge haul on their very first day. How could they not be excited?
"Alright, since everyone’s here, let’s go in and pick up a mission," Lin Xinghai said after glancing at the assembled crowd, then walked straight into the Mission Hall.
The Mission Hall was already one of the liveliest places in East Sea Academy. When Lin Xinghai entered with his group, they instantly drew a lot of attention.
Lin Xinghai’s appearance, in particular, caused a bit of a commotion, and he was soon surrounded by other Squad Leaders.
These people all came over to make small talk, and some even asked if Lin Xinghai was interested in taking on a difficult joint mission together.
As they were all quite enthusiastic and polite second and third-year upperclassmen, Lin Xinghai couldn’t just give them the cold shoulder. It’s hard to be rude to a smiling face, after all. He could only make polite conversation while tactfully declining their offers.
Since he was tied up, he could only signal for Little Fatty to go and pick up a mission.
Little Fatty instantly perked up and swaggered over to the mission announcement board.
He stared intently at the scrolling list of missions, pondering which one would be the most profitable.
Meanwhile, Yan Feijie, having chosen to join the Xinghai Squad, certainly didn’t want to be a benchwarmer and was eager to prove his worth.
Seeing this, his eyes lit up, and he hurried over to join Little Fatty.
"I think this B-Level escort mission looks good. The route isn’t long, and the reward is high. Although the danger rating is quite high, with our captain’s strength, it shouldn’t be a problem. Vice Captain Ye, what do you think?" Yan Feijie asked Ye Xin with a smile.
’He never thought he’d see the day he’d have to answer to this recommended student, someone he’d once completely looked down on.’
"That’s a good suggestion, Yan," Little Fatty said with a smile when he saw it was Yan Feijie.
But then his tone shifted. "However, since you’ve just joined, you might not be familiar with the Xinghai Squad’s style. We usually prioritize Zombie-hunting missions. Besides, this B-Level mission is only worth 500,000 Credit Points. That’s a little low."
Hearing that 500,000 Credit Points for a single mission was considered "a little low," Yan Feijie was suddenly at a loss for words.
After all, for a mission with his own Feiyan Squad, earning 30,000 to 50,000 Credit Points was already considered a good haul.
But when he remembered the Xinghai Squad’s earnings, he thought for a moment and decided to keep quiet.
At the same time, he grew curious. ’What kind of mission could possibly offer a better reward than this B-Level one? After all, A-Level missions require a Divine Demon Realm expert to lead the team. Normally, first-year students like us aren’t even qualified to take on B-Level missions. Lin Xinghai only has that privilege because he’s demonstrated the ability to fight opponents of a higher level.’
While Yan Feijie was lost in thought, Little Fatty’s eyes, fixed on the missions scrolling across the LCD screen, suddenly lit up. "This D-Level mission looks good. Let’s go with this one, before someone else grabs it."
Yan Feijie looked at the D-Level mission Little Fatty was pointing to, his eyes filled with utter confusion.
