Isn't This a Game? Why Are You All Cultivating for Real!
Chapter 306: Save HerThe male cultivator stared in disbelief.
He was heavily injured and fell directly into the water.
Whether he was dead or not was unknown. In any case, this was an Illusion Realm, so he probably wouldn’t die for real, but he was definitely eliminated.
Song Jiulai’s expression didn’t even flicker as she sent him packing.
She lamented to the system, ’I was trying so hard to be a good person. Why didn’t he cherish the opportunity?’
System: ’Indeed.’
Meanwhile, a few other Cultivators had witnessed the exchange between Song Jiulai and the male cultivator.
One of them shot Song Jiulai a strange, guarded look.
’How can someone at the Early Stage of Qi Refining remain so composed while dragging a person through giant waves? What’s her background?’
A beautiful female cultivator in a white robe, some distance ahead of Song Jiulai, also glanced back at her.
As the rolling waves subsided, everyone sighed in relief when they saw the island coming into view ahead.
’Almost there.’
For this second trial, all they had to do was get a flag. The requirements weren’t too harsh.
But just as that thought crossed their minds...
A massive wave shot up from beneath their feet without any warning.
It moved so fast that it was impossible to guard against.
As a dozen boats were tossed high into the sky by the giant wave, some people panicked, while others let out unwilling howls as they were thrown from their boats and forced into the water.
Song Jiulai was also thrown into the air.
Half her body was flung over the side of the boat.
But she simply raised an eyebrow. Her fingers moved behind her, manipulating the formula, and Spiritual Energy flared just as her body began to tip over.
Suddenly, a vine shot out and wrapped around Song Jiulai’s waist.
She instinctively became vigilant, nearly summoning five Ice Blades to sever the vine.
But the vine merely pulled her back onto the boat.
It retracted swiftly after Song Jiulai steadied herself.
The white-robed female cultivator up ahead gave Song Jiulai a slight nod.
Song Jiulai was a little surprised.
’I usually have such bad luck. Ever since I started venturing out, I’ve run into bad people every time trouble strikes.’
’This is the first time anyone has ever saved me.’
Coming back to her senses, Song Jiulai nodded at the female cultivator. "Thank you, fellow cultivator."
The white-robed female cultivator gave a faint smile. Her face was beautiful, like a lotus blossom emerging from the water.
When the giant wave crashed back down, this sudden attack had eliminated five or six Cultivators.
But the faces of those who remained were grim.
Their Spiritual Energy was almost completely depleted.
The island was in sight, but if another disaster struck, they would run out of Spiritual Energy and face certain elimination.
’And the wind and waves beneath our feet are still strong.’
Song Jiulai paid special attention to the white-robed female cultivator.
She could tell that the woman still had more Spiritual Energy than the others. She’d had enough to spare to save Song Jiulai, and even now, her complexion looked much better than everyone else’s.
However, Song Jiulai could also sense that her Spiritual Power was running low.
She just maintained a very calm expression.
Although Song Jiulai was currently in a clone body, she still possessed a portion of her main body’s Divine Sense, though she couldn’t actively use it.
She could faintly gauge the depths of others’ abilities.
Even the system was surprised. ’I can’t believe you actually ran into a good person in this day and age.’
Song Jiulai retorted, ’What are you talking about? It’s because I’m a good person. This is my karmic reward.’
System: ’...’
’Still,’ Song Jiulai was a habitual conspiracy theorist. ’Did that female cultivator have some ulterior motive for saving me just now?’
’But the expenditure of Spiritual Energy was real.’
’Besides, I’m just an ordinary Cultivator right now. What’s the benefit in saving me?’
Although she thought this, Song Jiulai didn’t dwell on it for too long.
The island was close, but two more large waves struck one after another.
In an instant, only three of the struggling Cultivators remained.
Some had used their Magic Treasures, but with their Spiritual Energy depleted, even Magic Treasures were useless.
Others had Magic Treasures that were simply unsuitable for the situation.
The three survivors were another female cultivator in gray, the white-robed female cultivator, and Song Jiulai.
The island was now within arm’s reach, and the glowing flag on it was theirs for the taking.
But a final, colossal wave surged toward them, making their hearts pound in terror.
The wave before them rose high into the air and held its position, not crashing down, blocking the path of the three cultivators.
The gray-robed female cultivator had also reached her Spiritual Energy limit, but she showed little panic. She took out a Mystic-grade Flying Sword, stepped onto it, and shot straight through the massive wave in one go.
Before she passed through, she glanced back at Song Jiulai and the white-robed female cultivator.
Then she turned her head away coldly.
Song Jiulai watched, feeling she had miscalculated. ’I should have bought a Magic Treasure too.’
The participants in this trial all had their own Divine Skills, and quite a few of them naturally had Magic Treasures.
’For a female cultivator at the Early Stage of Qi Refinement to be able to produce a Mystic-grade Flying Sword, her background must be impressive.’
The white-robed female cultivator glanced back at Song Jiulai and also took out a Magic Treasure.
However, her Magic Treasure was rather strange—it was a length of silk gauze.
After being infused with Spiritual Energy, the white gauze danced to life, wrapped around the white-robed female cultivator, and carried her through the wave as well.
The impact of the giant wave was considerable; the white-robed female cultivator’s face was clearly contorted in pain as she passed through.
Her Spiritual Energy must have been pushed to its absolute limit.
After they both made it through, Song Jiulai stroked her chin, contemplating. ’If I use my Ice Element Technique, I should be able to temporarily freeze a hole in the wave.’
’Then I can just break through it.’
Although this method was extreme and would consume a lot of Spiritual Energy, it wasn’t a problem for her.
Just as she was thinking this, the length of white gauze suddenly shot back through the other side of the giant wave.
It flew right in front of Song Jiulai, and while she was still stunned, the gauze wrapped around her and began to pull her through.
Song Jiulai and the system both went, ’Whoa!’
But once inside the giant wave, its force crashed against Song Jiulai. She could feel the violent rush of water, and the white gauze almost lost its grip, nearly letting her fall.
Song Jiulai raised an eyebrow slightly and released a burst of Spiritual Energy to stabilize her body. This eased the strain on the white gauze, which successfully pulled her out of the wave in one go.
"WHOOSH—"
She was yanked out of the wave. The white gauze vanished instantly, and the white-robed female cultivator collapsed to her knees, her face pale.
She had clearly reached her physical limit. Due to the excessive energy consumption, her whole body was trembling.
Song Jiulai was soaked to the bone. As she emerged, the gray-robed female cultivator was standing beside the white-robed one. She shot a look at Song Jiulai, then glanced at the collapsed woman and muttered scornfully, "Idiot."
System: ’How rude! Go give her a verbal smackdown!’
Song Jiulai: "..."
She looked at the white-robed female cultivator with some surprise, unable to understand why the woman would risk exhausting her Spiritual Energy just to bring her along.
"Thank you, fellow cultivator."
She bent down, almost instinctively reaching for an Elixir Pill to give her.
But remembering the rules of the second trial, Song Jiulai stopped herself. "Why did you save me?"
The white-robed female cultivator caught her breath for a few moments. After recovering slightly, she looked up at Song Jiulai and gave a pale smile. "You made it this far. It would be a pity if you didn’t pass."
She had seen Song Jiulai try to save that male cultivator earlier.
At the very least, her initial attempt to help, rather than attack, showed that Song Jiulai was a relatively kind Cultivator.
That was a rare sight.
