"Which god dares to take the soul of a mortal creature from my hands without consulting me first?!"
"How insolent! They are truly disregarding me as the God of Death!"
Hades's furious roar echoed through the grand hall of his domain.
The Ruler of Death was genuinely enraged by the brazen action that had just infringed upon his authority.
In fact, the phenomenon of gods claiming the souls of deceased mortal creatures to keep for themselves was nothing foreign in Heaven.
A clear example was Freya, who had reserved the souls of her favorite followers so they would not directly enter the cycle of reincarnation. Once she eventually grew bored of playing in the Lower World, she planned to bring those chosen souls back to accompany her in spending eternity.
Clearly, this sort of deviant behavior had become a fairly common occurrence among the gods. However, the main problem was not the taking of the soul itself—rather, it was a matter of etiquette!
Whichever god was doing it, they should have still shown respect and 'given face' to Hades as the absolute ruler over death!
"Let us see which god is breaking the rules..." Hades muttered in a cold tone.
Without hesitation, he deployed the power of his Arcanum to trace the other party's causal path.
Vastly different from the gods and goddesses who chose to descend to the Lower World and live with their Arcanum powers sealed, the gods residing in Heaven had no such restrictions.
However, as soon as that causal trace connected, Hades's brow instantly furrowed.
"Hm? Which god is this? I have never seen his face in Heaven..." He muttered in confusion. The figure of Charlie displayed inside his mind felt so unfamiliar.
"Wait a minute... Something is wrong!" Hades widened his eyes, realizing a deeply fatal discrepancy. "Aren't the gods in the Lower World immediately detected and forcibly teleported back to Heaven if they rashly use the power of Arcanum? Then how can this rude bastard still be standing so nonchalantly in the Lower World?!"
Hades did not realize that Charlie was not a god at all, but a Transcendent. Although his divinity felt similar to that of the gods, Charlie's essence and nature were vastly different.
Therefore, the combined power of the gods enveloping the Lower World—specifically designed to return rule-breaking gods and goddesses to Heaven—triggered no effect on Charlie whatsoever.
"The girl in his arms... possesses Loki's blessing." Hades muttered while observing more closely. "Don't tell me... this foreign god fell in love with her? Fufu, interesting..."
He could feel with absolute clarity the other party's intense efforts attempting to snatch and pull back the girl's soul from his grasp through the pathway of causality.
Of course, as the Ruler of Death, Hades was not about to let the other party off just like that without a fight.
As a result, the clash of power between Charlie's Divine Authority and Hades's Arcanum created a fierce stalemate between the two realms.
"How ridiculous..." Hades shook his head while leaning back on his throne, letting out a cold, amused smile. "They should have known full well from the beginning that romantic relationships between immortal gods and fragile mortals are always fated to end tragically."
"Compared to the lifespan of mortals, which is as fleeting as the blink of an eye, we gods live eternally forever."
"I truly cannot comprehend... why they always insist on investing such deep feelings into short-lived creatures, when they know full well it will only bring a lifetime of sorrow in the end."
Hades sighed softly as he remembered Brigid, who had just been returned to Heaven not long ago.
Up until this very second, Brigid still often sat lost in melancholic thought, longing for her mortal lover from the Lower World—a man named Caam.
"Especially since that girl is a follower of Loki..." Hades muttered while tapping the armrest of his throne, his eyes narrowing full of speculation. "Could his ability to use Arcanum in the Lower World without being detected have something to do with that troublemaker?"
He chuckled low as that thought crossed his mind.
"That is by no means impossible. After all, Loki is the master scheme weaver who once triggered a great war in Heaven—causing the gods to slaughter one another for tens of thousands of years."
"With her cunning tricks, that deceiver might very well have found a legal loophole so gods can freely use Arcanum in the Lower World..."
Recalling Loki's reputation for cunning in the past, that explanation suddenly felt extremely plausible to Hades.
"Fufu, how very interesting." He said with a crooked, intrigue-filled smile. "I had better keep this discovery secret from the other gods. Later, when my turn comes to descend and play around in the Lower World, I will meet Loki personally and demand that secret trick from her."
Hades then straightened his posture, glaring sharply toward the thread of causality connecting Heaven with the location where Charlie was in the Lower World.
"However, for now... let us first deal with this unknown god who lacks manners. He thinks he can do as he pleases in my domain?!"
With a wave of his hand, Hades deployed the full power of his Arcanum. He not only locked Ais's soul with the chains of death's authority, but also sent a wave of fierce counterattacks shooting straight through the thread of causality toward Charlie's soul!
◆━⊰✿✧✿⊱━◆
The Lower World.
Charlie felt an invisible attack bearing the aura of death shooting toward him.
Even though he was facing a direct attack from a god, a power that could kill even a Level 9 Adventurer or the Black Dragon, he remained calm.
*SHUA!*
With a casual wave of his hand, he used the Divine Authority Annihilation to erase the attack, reducing it to total nothingness.
"Damn it." Charlie stared at Ais's still-stiff body. "The attempt to revive Ais... failed."
"This isn't because the Hundred Gauntlets didn't work, but because her soul is being held by the gods in Heaven. This is truly troublesome."
"Should I... storm into Heaven, just like the Great Sage Equalling Heaven, Sun Wukong, once did?"
He immediately dismissed that idea. Charlie took a deep breath, calming his turbulent mind.
"Even though my strength has surged drastically, reaching the level of the gods in this world, it is far too reckless to storm Heaven alone. Who knows how many gods reside up there, and how powerful their Arcanum is. Doing that would be nothing short of suicide. Not only would I fail to save Ais, but my death would only cause grief for Aishia, Est, and Kei."
Despite having to accept failure for the time being, Charlie still planned to resurrect Ais from death.
He just needed to wait.
Wait until his power reached a level where all the gods in Heaven were no match for him, where he could enforce his will upon death without anyone's interference.
Charlie reached out his hand, extremely gently stroking Ais's cold cheek.
"I'm sorry, Ais."
"I have to ask you to wait a little longer. But I promise, I will bring you back to life."
