Kylie pushed through half the crowd before she accepted one undeniable truth. She might as well pee on somebody’s designer shoes if this goes on.
The queue outside the ladies’ bathroom curled around the corridor like people were waiting for concert tickets instead of toilets.
Kylie stared at the line, then at the bathroom door, then back at the line again.
"Absolutely not." She groaned.
The girl standing in front of her sighed.
"I’ve been here almost thirty minutes."
Kylie’s eyes widened. "Thirty?"
The girl nodded miserably. "I regret every cocktail I’ve ever had."
Kylie pressed both hands against her stomach. Her stomach tightened, and she bent softly. She really needed to pee immediately.
She craned her neck, looking beyond the crowd. A quieter corridor stretched away from the rooftop lounge.
There was no music, and barely a light. Only elegant doors with small brass numbers. She recognised them to be private suites.
Her eyes lit up. "Forgive me, public decency." She slipped away before anyone could stop her.
She moved up, trying and knocking on every door. Her face dropped seeing she would need a key card. Every door she tried was locked.
She frowned. "Rich people really don’t believe in sharing."
She reached another door.
This one wasn’t completely shut. However, it was only slightly open. Warm light spilled into the hallway.
Kylie knocked softly. "Hello?" She whispered softly.
Nobody responded from the inside.
She knocked again.
Still nothing.
"I’m coming in because my bladder is about to be useless in the next five minutes." She said apologetically, as she eased the door open.
"Oh." She blinked, taking a step back.
A man sat on the edge of the enormous bed. He had broad shoulders with his dark shirt unbuttoned at the collar.
He had messy blond hair.
His head tilted back toward the ceiling as one hand dragged across his face.
Beside the bed stood a woman in a glittering silver dress, calmly fixing her lipstick in a mirror.
Both of them turned simultaneously, facing Kylie the moment she stepped into the room.
Kylie blinked once. "Well."
Nobody spoke.
She smiled awkwardly.
"I’m terribly sorry to interrupt whatever this..." she gestured vaguely between them, "...is."
The woman frowned immediately. "Get out."
"I absolutely will." Kylie pointed toward the bathroom she had spotted through another doorway. "I just need the toilet."
"No."
Kylie stared at her, a bit surprised. "I’m sorry?"
"No." The woman folded both arms. "The hallway bathrooms exist for a reason."
"So does basic kindness." Her eyes softened, almost pleading. "They’re occupied."
The woman rolled her eyes. "Leave."
Kylie inhaled slowly, then smiled. "You’d barely know I’m here. Please just let me pee. Please."
The woman ignored her, and the room fell silent again.
The blond man finally looked at her properly. He had amber eyes. Beautiful amber eyes. His eyes studied her for several long seconds.
"You walked into my room." He finally spoke up. "You should leave if the owner says you should."
"I just need to pee. A minute is all I need."
He rubbed the bridge of his nose. "Presistant."
Kylie nodded proudly. "I get that a lot." She turned to the woman. "Now, please can I use the bathroom?"
The woman looked exasperated. "Christian." She called the blonde man sharply. "Tell her to leave."
Christian looked between the two women, then back at Kylie. "Why exactly are you here?"
She looked genuinely offended. "To pee."
He waited. "That’s it?"
"Unless you’ve got another bathroom hidden somewhere."
A laugh threatened the corner of his mouth, and he hid it quickly.
The woman noticed. "Christian." She called him again, her voice demanding this time.
He cleared his throat. "I’m afraid the answer is no."
Kylie closed her eyes when she opened them again, her eyes sharpened. "Think carefully."
"I have." The lady responded rudely.
Kylie turned to her. She slammed both hands together, making a pleading sign. "I am asking as one human being to another. I just need to pee."
"No."
She pointed dramatically at her stomach. "This is becoming a hostage situation."
The woman scoffed. "Get out." She turned to Christian. "Wasn’t the deal between us no other woman?"
Christian leaned back slightly, watching her.
She hadn’t stopped talking since she entered.
Most people became nervous around him. This woman appeared incapable of feeling embarrassment.
She looked around the luxurious suite, then suddenly gasped.
"Oh my God."
Christian frowned.
Kylie stared directly at him. "You don’t remember me?"
His eyebrows lifted, frowning. "Should I?"
She looked genuinely wounded. "Wow."
He blinked.
"That hurts."
The woman looked between them. "You know her?"
Kylie gasped louder. "You don’t know me?" She placed a hand dramatically over her chest.
"Christian." She called him softly, as if about to cry.
He stared.
"It’s me." She pressed both hands to her chest, and paused theatrically. "...your girlfriend."
The room froze.
The woman’s head whipped toward him. "Excuse me?"
Christian stared at Kylie.
His expression didn’t change. Then, very slowly, the corner of his mouth twitched.
"You," he said carefully, "are my girlfriend."
Kylie nodded confidently.
The woman rounded on him. "You told me you weren’t seeing anyone."
"I’m not."
"You absolute bastard!"
Christian held up both hands in defense. "I have absolutely no idea who this woman is."
Kylie gasped again. "Christian." She sounded heartbroken. "After everything we’ve been through?"
"What exactly have we been through?" He snapped at her.
She counted dramatically on her fingers. "Our first date."
"When?" He scrunched his nose at her, as he sat up straight.
"Our second date."
"There wasn’t one."
"The dog we almost adopted."
"I don’t own a dog."
She sighed deeply. "I can’t believe you’d forget our anniversary."
The woman’s eyes narrowed dangerously. "Christian."
He looked heavenward. "This is really stupid."
Kylie pointed accusingly. "Oh, so now I’m really stupid."
He couldn’t help it. He laughed softly. A rich genuine laugh.
The woman looked horrified. "You think this is funny?" She yelled, itritated. "You’re laughing."
Kylie folded her arms triumphantly. "I still need to pee. Thereafter, we can settle this."
Christian looked back at her. "You’re insane." He finally stood from the bed. "You’ve never met me."
Kylie instinctively took a step back. He was huge.
"So why exactly am I your fake boyfriend?"
She smiled sweetly. "I really need to pee first."
Another beat of silence.
The woman looked between them. "Oh, you’ve got to be kidding me."
Christian wiped beneath one eye. "You made all that up because you wanted the bathroom?" He turned to the woman in the room. "She isn’t my girlfriend. I’m not seeing her."
Kylie sighed dramatically. "That’s a lie."
The woman threw both hands into the air. "I’m leaving."
Neither of them stopped her.
She snatched up her handbag. "You deserve each other. Scumbags."
She stormed toward the door. Just before leaving, she glared at Christian, then at Kylie.
The door slammed shut, and silence settled over the suite.
Kylie blinked.
"Well." Christian looked toward the closed door. "You just ended my evening."
"You weren’t enjoying it anyway."
"What makes you think that?"
"You looked bored."
He studied her again. "You really don’t know who I am?"
"She shrugged. "Should I?"
He walked toward the minibar, then he picked up the suite keycard from the table and tossed it lightly toward her.
She caught it awkwardly.
"The bathroom’s through there."
Her entire face lit up. "You beautiful, beautiful man."
He didn’t reapond to her.
"I’ll only be a minute." She assured him.
She sprinted toward the bathroom before he could change his mind.
Christian watched the door close behind her, then he laughed quietly to himself.
He still had absolutely no idea who she was. But somehow, she had walked into his room. Invented an entire relationship.
Ruined his toxic date, made him laugh twice and all because she needed to use the toilet.
He leaned back against the sofa.
"Can I use the towel?" Kylie yelled from the bathroom.
"Yes, Ma’am." Christian responded, walking towards the floor to ceiling window, with his towel hanging too low around his waist.
