Kicked Out, Flash-Married, and Now He Won't Let Me Go
Chapter 140: His AttentivenessChapter 140: Chapter 140: His Attentiveness
Vivian was already preparing to go upstairs.
Hearing Julian mention a midnight snack, she subconsciously turned to look at him.
Hmm... Just earlier at Grandma Faulkner’s place, although they had already eaten dinner, Grandma Faulkner was sick and her diet was relatively bland. Vivian, on the other hand, preferred stronger flavors.
Julian was very good at cooking. It was so late. Should they just use the hot pot seasoning to cook the meat they had bought earlier?
"Whip up a mini hot pot?" Vivian asked tentatively. She hadn’t eaten hot pot for a long time and really missed it.
Hearing this, Julian thought for a moment and said, "Simply boiling the vegetables with hot pot seasoning is a bit too plain. Let me prepare the soup base. You can prep the ingredients, how about that?
"There are plenty of things in the fridge at home. You can go see what you’d like to eat."
"Mhm!" Vivian was delighted.
The Faulkner family’s refrigerator was huge, featuring a dedicated crisper section. Easily perishable vegetables and fruits placed inside would still look as fresh as new even after a week. It could even preserve easily spoiled fruits like cherries!
As for Julian, a CEO, when he wasn’t busy, he liked to stroll around the supermarket and occasionally bought some of his favorite ingredients. He would cook himself when he had time, but most of the time, it was still Ms. Shaw cooking at home.
Regarding this matter, Ms. Shaw couldn’t help but tease that it was really nice having Julian at home. Since he liked grocery shopping, she didn’t have to go out and buy groceries very often.
Julian just smiled at this.
Vivian, however, knew that Julian’s fondness for grocery shopping was mostly because his heart ached for Grandma Faulkner. He wanted to buy delicious and nutritious food for her.
Furthermore, experts had actually investigated and found that strolling through a supermarket was a highly effective way to relieve stress.
Vivian also loved grocery shopping. Looking at the dazzling array of goods in the supermarket was like discovering a new continent. Sometimes, she would spot new products introduced by the store. Things she hadn’t eaten or seen before would make her subconsciously take a second look.
Hmm... Shopping was like judging a beauty pageant. She was the "lofty" emperor, picking and choosing to find the beauties she fancied. It was quite a nice feeling.
Just as Vivian was lost in her thoughts, Julian, who had reached the kitchen door, turned back to look at her. Seeing her zoning out, he couldn’t help but call out.
"Vivian."
Julian’s tone was mild. However, this tone was different from the indifferent and distant feeling he usually exuded when speaking to others. It was more like he took in everything about her, but was simply helpless against her.
"Coming, coming."
Realizing Julian had seen through her daydreaming, Vivian felt a bit embarrassed. She quickly followed him into the kitchen.
Julian knew his way around. He grabbed the hot pot seasoning and some condiments, and began preparing the soup base.
Vivian, meanwhile, found her favorite beef tripe, shrimp paste, and beef slices from the fridge. It was just a pity that there was no eel. Eels were always tastier when freshly prepared.
"Hmm, as for vegetables, I’ll go with potatoes, lotus roots, and yams. Would that be a bit too much? Eating hot pot late at night is truly a sin!" Vivian couldn’t help but sigh inwardly.
"I’ll just go for a run tomorrow," she thought, "then swim for a bit to burn off everything I’ve eaten today!
"As for losing weight, of course, I need to eat my fill to have the energy for it!"
Having convinced herself, Vivian finished preparing the ingredients and went to chop the vegetables. One potato and one piece of lotus root would be enough. She also took just one yam.
Next time, when Grandma Faulkner’s health improved, they should make a mushroom soup hot pot at home. They could make it a half-and-half pot, with one side spicy and the other a nourishing broth. The whole family could gather happily together; it would definitely be a joyous meal!
"A family." When these words popped into her head, Vivian was slightly surprised but also felt a warmth in her heart.
In the Lowell family, she might have received love from her relatives when she was little, but she was ignorant back then. She only remembered that Sharon Galahad and Robert Lowell both expected her to be exceptionally outstanding and bear the future responsibilities of the Lowell family.
Compared to the pressure, familial affection hadn’t been as obvious.
It wasn’t until she met Julian and Grandma Faulkner that she finally understood the feeling of a "home."
"This is really nice," Vivian thought, losing a bit of focus on the force of her hands. When slicing the lotus root, the knife slipped just a tiny bit, cutting into her finger.
"HISS!"
Vivian couldn’t help but suck in a sharp breath of cold air. She looked down and realized her reflexes had been quite fast; she had reacted the moment the blade touched her finger. The cut was very shallow, producing only a tiny drop of blood.
Subconsciously, Vivian wanted to bring her finger to her mouth to suck on it. At this moment, Julian, who had been preparing the soup base, walked over. He looked at her with a deep frown and asked, "What’s wrong?"
Before Vivian even had time to answer, Julian saw the cut on her hand and noticed what she was about to do.
"Come here."
Julian grabbed Vivian straight by the wrist. His grip was strong enough that she couldn’t resist. Dragged along by him, she was brought to the sink nearby.
"You just used the knife to chop vegetables. There’s bacteria on it, so you can’t just put it in your mouth like that. You need to wash it clean and then put on a Band-Aid, understand?"
Julian spoke with earnest gravity. He sounded just like a serious and responsible primary school teacher instructing a slightly disobedient and slow-witted student on what to do.
Vivian felt a bit guilty. She had never really cared about this sort of thing before. Now, hearing Julian say it, she could only nod obediently. Acting truly like a primary school student, she listened to his words completely.
However, Vivian looked up at Julian and said with a serious face, "But, Julian, I’m allergic to adhesive tape! The kind used on Band-Aids.
"If I stick it on my skin, I’ll break out in small rashes and it’ll itch. I can’t even use those medicated patches for backaches. I think they’re made of adhesive tape too, right?"
In the past, Vivian had suffered from back and shoulder pain due to working excessively long hours. She had bought those muscle and joint pain relief patches to stick on, thinking they would cure her. Ultimately, her backache and shoulder pain did heal, but the spots where she had applied the patches developed eczema. Because they weren’t breathable, they itched terribly. Later, she had to buy other medications to treat the eczema.
Vivian had been quite speechless about this. It was only because of this incident that she realized she was allergic to adhesive tape!
Hearing this, Julian gave Vivian an earnest look. He had picked up on the most crucial sentence in her words and asked, "When did you have a backache?"
Wait, what?! Vivian cast a surprised glance at Julian. "He’s amazing!" she thought. She hadn’t even explicitly mentioned it, yet he had caught on.
Uh... After staring at Julian in astonishment, Vivian realized another thing. Her current reaction was far too obvious. It was enough to prove that she had indeed suffered from backaches before.
"Julian is just too attentive to details!" she realized. "Ahem, it seems there’s no way to deny it now."
