Chapter 164: Chapter 164: Suspicion

After Julian Faulkner left, Vivian Lowell picked up her phone.

Vance Wyatt had sent her quite a few messages, including Robert Lowell’s autopsy report and the scene investigation record from after Sharon Galahad’s accident.

Looking at the pictures, Vivian Lowell understood two things with absolute clarity.

First, Robert Lowell was not shot and killed by the police!

The bullet recovered from Robert Lowell’s body, after comparison, did not match the specifications of the rifles used by the police!

According to the police’s subsequent investigation, they concluded that someone must have been lying in ambush nearby and fired during the chaos.

The police searched the area afterward and, sure enough, found a location with a suitable firing angle. Furthermore, that spot had a secret passage leading elsewhere.

They are now investigating the location, hoping to find more information and catch the person who fired from hiding.

The second piece of news was about Sharon Galahad.

Someone had tampered with the engine of Sharon Galahad’s car. After she drove for a certain period, the car would automatically accelerate on its own and couldn’t be stopped.

Sharon Galahad’s car was electric and had an autopilot function. When the problem occurred, Sharon Galahad likely tried to regain control of the vehicle but failed.

She crashed into some rocks on the side of the road, and the car immediately caught fire. The blaze was immense, and the gasoline inside the car was completely ignited.

Sharon Galahad was burned to a crisp.

She was only removed from the wreckage after the fire was extinguished, and it was confirmed that there was absolutely no chance of survival.

After reading the messages, Vivian Lowell sighed and sent another text: "What about Rachel Faulkner? What exactly happened this morning?"

Not long after she sent the message, just as Vivian Lowell was about to take a closer look at the reports, the door opened.

Julian Faulkner was back.

Vivian Lowell continued to read the messages.

"We heard an explosion. We waited a moment for the noise to die down before going to check on the situation. Who knew that as soon as we got close to the room, we would hear a hissing sound."

"We thought it was strange, but we went in anyway and inhaled some kind of poison gas. The gas must have had some anesthetic properties, because we passed out immediately."

"When we woke up, about an hour had passed. President Faulkner had rushed over after escorting the matriarch, found us in trouble, and had us rescued."

"Ms. Faulkner was revived along with us. She said she was looking for Annie to negotiate with her—to give Annie some money and get her to stop harassing the Faulkner family."

"Lawyer Donovan agreed. But just as they were about to make the transaction, Ms. Faulkner was knocked unconscious. When she came to, she was already tied up in the little wooden cabin."

"The ones who tied her up were Robert Lowell and Sharon Galahad! She said she never expected Annie to be so capable as to get in touch with Sharon Galahad and Robert Lowell."

"Ma’am, forgive my bluntness. Whether or not we can believe Ms. Faulkner’s words... it seems highly questionable at this point. This isn’t something I can easily say to President Faulkner, so I hope you will be extra vigilant."

Vivian Lowell finished reading the messages from Vance Wyatt just as Julian Faulkner walked up to her bedside.

Vivian Lowell tilted her head to look at Julian Faulkner. Her mind was a mess, so she simply blurted out, "What do you make of what happened today?"

Julian Faulkner looked up, gazing at Vivian Lowell intently. His jet-black eyes were incredibly deep, as if they held countless stories.

What Vivian Lowell wanted to know was what really happened with the deaths of Robert Lowell and Sharon Galahad, and whether any of it was connected to Rachel Faulkner.

Robert Lowell and Sharon Galahad were people whom Vivian Lowell had sued. Normally, as they were criminals with dangerous tendencies, the police should have been keeping an eye on them.

Not only that, but Julian Faulkner had also previously said he would have people watch Sharon Galahad and Robert Lowell. Yet, despite all that, something had still gone wrong.

Vivian Lowell’s suspicion of Rachel Faulkner deepened. Even though the phone call last night had claimed Rachel was only trying to help and had been taken advantage of, Vivian still didn’t quite believe her.

’It’s too strange.’

’Robert Lowell and Sharon Galahad were definitely silenced.’

’Besides all the dirty laundry from the Lowell Group, what else could they have known that would get them killed?’

’Only the details of my kidnapping.’

’And of all the people implicated in that, the only one I’m aware of right now is Rachel Faulkner.’

’Rachel Faulkner is too big of a problem. Why would she do this?’

’Is her target me, or the Faulkner Family?’

’And is there really some secret agenda between her and Annie, just like I suspected before?’

"..."

In front of Vivian Lowell, Julian Faulkner also let out a long sigh when faced with her question, then said, "I feel the same way."

"I don’t trust her either. She’s at home right now. I’ve stationed two bodyguards at her door. Her physical condition isn’t great, so once she’s recovered a bit, we’ll question her."

"Don’t worry. If it’s proven that she did it, I won’t go easy on her."

Julian Faulkner was completely serious. He had clearly already made up his mind.

Vivian Lowell looked at Julian Faulkner, who continued, "About Robert Lowell and Sharon Galahad... they used some unknown means to evade the people I and the police sent to watch them."

"It now seems they had contact with Annie before. As for whether there was any contact between them and Rachel Faulkner, we haven’t found any evidence yet."

"But I will find it. Don’t worry."

Julian Faulkner kept telling her not to worry.

Vivian Lowell could feel that he was earnestly trying to comfort her, but she also felt that Julian Faulkner himself wasn’t in a good state of mind. His eyes were filled with constant worry. He even seemed to be on the verge of trembling.

Vivian Lowell had never seen this side of Julian Faulkner. In her mind, he had always been the omnipotent one.

He was always so confident, as if there was nothing in the world he couldn’t do. But now, for him to reveal such emotion... it felt unbelievable.

"Vivian Lowell."

Just as Vivian Lowell was lowering her head, lost in thought, Julian Faulkner sat down on their bed beside her, right by her hand.

Julian Faulkner seemed to have considered his words for a long time before he finally spoke. "The message you sent me this morning, before you went into that room... I got it."

"I’ve thought about it for a long time. I’ve been worried all day, and there’s something I need to say to you."

Julian Faulkner was rambling slightly, but by the end, he seemed to have collected his thoughts.

He looked at Vivian Lowell with absolute seriousness.
