Knot me on ice, Captain(BL)

Chapter 333: A Cycle of Useless Fathers

Leo

I leaned into his touch, the warmth of his palms finally stopping the internal shivering of my soul. "It is just... the genetic reality of my family is so incredibly dark, Miller. You don’t understand the full scope of the tragedy. Did you know how my father actually died?"

Miller shook his head slowly, his eyes never leaving mine. "Gerald mentioned he passed away, but he didn’t give me the details."

"He didn’t just pass away," I said, a bitter chuckle escaping my lips as I recounted the historical data. "He was killed. And the craziest part of the entire situation is who did it. He was killed by Kayden’s father."

Miller’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, his hands tensing against my neck. "Kayden’s father?"

"Yes," I nodded, my voice dropping into a quiet, serious tone. "It was the most chaotic, violent thing that had ever happened in our social circle.

My father had completely lost his mind due to the chemical suppression treatments the council forced on him. He had become a danger to everyone around him, but especially to us. He was threatening our lives, behaving like a complete beast. Kayden’s father stepped in. He killed my father to protect Kayden.’’

I took a deep, shaky breath, looking past Miller into the dark trees surrounding the villa. "And the truly dark thing is... I don’t regret knowing that it happened. I don’t regret his death. When I found out, I didn’t feel grief, I felt a profound sense of relief. Because both of our fathers were just completely useless. One was a monster driven mad by synthetic hormones, and the other had to resort to murder to protect his child from his own blood. It is a cycle of absolute failure. I spent my entire life looking at that family history, convinced that the Ackerman bloodline is fundamentally broken. I don’t want to turn into my father, Miller. I would rather die than become the kind of man who has to be put down like a rabid animal to save the people he loves."

Miller’s expression shifted from surprise to a deep, heartbreaking sorrow. He looked at me, seeing the little boy who had grown up in the shadow of a violent monster, terrified of his own reflection.

"You are not going to turn into him, Leo," Miller said, his voice thick with emotion.

Miller didn’t hesitate for a single second. He stepped closer, closing the small distance between us, and wrapped his arms around me, pulling me into a crushing, desperate hug. He buried his face in my neck, holding me so tightly I could feel the rapid, steady beat of his heart against my chest. "I promise you, you will never become that man. You are too good, too smart, and too caring. You have spent your entire life healing people, not hurting them."

I wrapped my arms around his waist, holding onto him like he was the only solid thing in a world that was constantly shifting beneath my feet. "I am scared, Miller," I whispered into his shoulder, finally admitting the truth. "I am scared of what is happening to my body. I am scared of the weakness, of the change, of the uncertainty. What if this turns out to be a failure and I became my father?’’

Miller pulled back just enough to look at me, his hands moving up to frame my face. He leaned in, pressing a soft, lingering kiss to my left forehead, then to my right temple, his lips warm and comforting against my skin.

"Let me carry some of that fear for you," Miller whispered, his eyes shining with unshed tears. "I love you so much, Leo. I love every single part of you—the brilliant doctor, the stubborn Enigma, and whatever beautiful, rare version of yourself you are turning into now. I am not going to leave you to suffer on your own. I am right here. We are partners, and I am going to stand by you through every single test, every single change, and every single storm. I already promised you that no matter what, I will always have my back.’’

Hearing him say the words out loud, hearing the absolute certainty in his voice, made the last of my defenses crumble.

The logic, the statistics, the medical jargons—none of it mattered in the face of his devotion because I had longed made myself vulnerable in front of him and he would accept any version of me.

"I love you, Miller," I confessed, the words pouring from my heart, clean and true. "I love you more than my own survival. I am so sorry for making you doubt that, even for a second."

"I never doubted your love, Leo," Miller smiled, a tear finally escaping his eye and tracking down his cheek. "I just wanted you to trust me enough to let me help you."

"I trust you," I said, my voice steady and clear. "With my life. With my body. With everything that I have within me. I will make sure that I always reciprocate the feeling in any way or manner that I can.’’

Miller smiled, the warmth in his green eyes brighter than any light in the villa. He leaned in slowly, his gaze drifting to my lips, and I met him halfway.

Our lips met in a deep, desperate kiss right there on the threshold of our home. It wasn’t a kiss of anger or fear, but a beautiful, quiet confession of what we had gone through.

It was a promise sealed in the quiet night and a declaration that everything we were got was a declaration that we were going to fight for each other, no matter what the future held.

I reached up, my fingers tangling in his soft hair, pulling him closer as the heavy double doors of the villa automatically clicked and swung open behind us, welcoming us back into our shared space.

’’I never expected that I will be with someone as loyal as you.’’

Miller chuckled lightly and then leaned in and kissed me again. ’’The I don’t date athletes rules never applied to me anyways.’’
