Chapter 30: Chapter 30: on the table?
The three brothers stood in unison, their chairs scraping against the marble floor in perfect synchrony. Amelia rose as well, her legs suddenly unsteady,.
What the heck? As in... right now? On the table? In front of ...her?
The maids moved with practiced speed, their hands efficient and silent. Plates, glasses, and cutlery vanished from the long table in seconds, leaving the polished surface clear.
Reid walked around to the opposite side. Together with Enzo, he lifted Amelia—one hand under her knees, the other supporting her back—and set her carefully onto the table. The short red gown rode higher against her thighs, the cool wood pressing against her bare skin.
She didn’t know what she felt first—embarrassment, shock, overwhelm. All of it crashed together at once, a tidal wave of sensation that left her breathless.
Then it began.
Enzo leaned over her upper body, his grey eyes dark and focused. His mouth found the side of her neck, warm and insistent. One of his hands pinned her wrists firmly against the wood, a silent command to stay still.
Heat flared under every place his lips touched. Her skin prickled in waves, sensitive and restless. Why does this feel so good? Breath caught high in her throat, then came shorter, shallower.
A reluctant warmth unfurled low in her stomach and spread outward, slow and heavy, making her thighs press together without permission. Stop reacting. Stop— Her pulse thudded hard beneath the places he kissed, as if her blood itself was answering him.
When his mouth finally claimed hers, the taste of him was unexpected—dark, clean, and somehow addictive. He shouldn’t taste like this. Why does he taste so....
Her lips moved awkwardly against his, unsure and clumsy, yet her body refused to pull away. A soft, involuntary sound rose in her chest. Every nerve seemed to lean toward him even as her mind scrambled to stay in control.
What is happening to me? Why does this feel good? I hate this. I should hate every second of it.
Reid worked at her midsection with intentional patience. Slow, open-palm strokes moved across her other breast, the heat of his hand seeping through the thin fabric until her nipple tightened against his palm. He pressed firmer, then lightened the touch into teasing fingertip circles that trailed down over the soft plane of her stomach. Each pass made her muscles jump and flutter.
What is this...feeling...?
She arched off the table without meaning to, her back bowing as if her body was offering itself. A sound slipped from her throat straight into Enzo’s mouth—something dangerously close to a moan, soft and helpless.
I didn’t do that...my body did. Why is it doing that?
Dean remained at her lower body. His mouth traced careful, lingering kisses along the inner and outer curves of her thighs, the warmth of his lips making her skin tighten and tingle.
His hands followed, sliding slowly from the back of her raised knee up to the sensitive crease of her hip and back again—never crossing the final boundary, yet the restraint only sharpened every sensation. Heat pooled low between her legs. Her body betrayed her again, hips shifting slightly, almost seeking the touch she both feared and, against every rational thought, wanted more of.
Please...stop...just more...my mind is...jumbled up
But the slow, teasing pressure continued, and her body kept answering for her.
She lost track of time. The sweet, relentless attention blurred the edges of the room until Madame’s voice cut through it.
"Enough."
Enzo broke the kiss immediately, pulling back. The daze began to lift. Reality rushed back in—where she was, who was watching, what had just happened. Heat flooded her face for an entirely different reason.
Madame nodded once with an unreadable look. "It’s good. Do better when the ceremony comes."
She rose from her chair, looking down at Amelia with something that might have been approval. "You are officially accepted as their wife. I was skeptical before, but now I am a bit more certain you are right for them. This time."
Without another word, she walked away.
The moment she left, the three brothers stepped back from the table as if Amelia had become something contagious. Their warmth vanished, replaced by cold air that raised goosebumps along her skin.
Amelia pushed herself up and slid off the table on unsteady legs. Staying there any longer would only deepen the humiliation. She kept her eyes down, every instinct screaming the same desperate wish—to disappear from the face of the earth.
Enzo’s hand caught her chin and raised her face, forcing her to meet his grey eyes. His grip was firm, his thumb pressing against the curve of her jaw. The warmth from moments ago had vanished entirely, replaced by something not so warm at all.
"Stop acting like some kind of novice."
Amelia’s voice came out thinner than she wanted. "I was just taken aback. I really haven’t done this with an audience."
Reid’s tone was almost casual, but each words were a small blow. "You’d better get used to it. There will be quite a company watching on the day of the mating ceremony."
Amelia’s thoughts stuttered, her mind scrambling to process. Like an audience? Like people sitting and observing? She hoped—desperately—that she had misunderstood him. That he meant something else. Anything else.
Enzo’s grip on her face tightened, the pressure slowly tipping toward pain. His thumb pressed harder against her jaw. "Have you made any progress yet?"
She tried to shake her head, but his hold kept her still, trapping her in place. "I haven’t yet."
Enzo scoffed, the sound devoid of any warmth. His grey eyes bore into hers. "Do you really want to go through with this ceremony if you won’t start telling us the truth?"
