Chapter 33: Chapter 33: Am i possessed?
She followed them barefoot down the long corridors, the floors cold against her soles. The guards flanked her on either side, their faces impassive, their steps silent. Her mind raced, thoughts colliding and rebounding off each other.
What happened? What did I do? What happened to the door handle? How is it broken from the inside?
No one offered an explanation. The silence of the guards only made the dread heavier, pressing down on her shoulders like a physical weight. She tried to piece together the fragments of the night, but there was nothing—just darkness, just sleep, just nothing.
When they reached the familiar office, the three brothers were already waiting. None of their faces looked welcoming. Enzo stood behind the desk, arms crossed. Reid leaned against the wall, his expression unreadable. Dean stood by the window, his posture rigid.
The door shut firmly behind her, like a final death call.
Enzo’s grey eyes fixed on her. "Explain why you broke your door handle, came out in the middle of the night, and went into Dean’s room."
Amelia stared at them. Their expressions were dead serious, as if they fully believed every word. Her mouth opened, then closed.
"I have no idea what you’re talking about," she said, her voice thin. "I was asleep the entire time."
Reid let out a short, cold and dismissive laugh. "Is this a joke? Because if it is, it’s a terrible one. Breaking a reinforced handle in your sleep, wandering into my brother’s room, and somehow walking out unharmed... and now you’re standing there looking confused." His smile didn’t reach his eyes. "Cute. Try again."
"I’m telling the truth."
Dean moved.
Amelia stepped back instinctively, but he was faster. His hand closed around her throat and lifted just enough to make her rise onto her toes. Air vanished. Her vision swam. She clawed at his wrist, gasping, trying to form words that wouldn’t come.
I don’t understand. I don’t know what’s happening. Please—
There was something in her eyes that made Dean realize that she could be saying the truth, which he didn’t even can’t believe its true.
Then, abruptly, the pressure disappeared. Dean released her. She staggered, coughing, dragging in sharp breaths, her hands pressed to her throat.
"She’s telling the truth," Dean said flatly.
Reid’s eyebrows shot up. "Did whatever she did to you last night scramble your brain? Because that is not the reaction I expected."
Dean shot him a look that could have frozen blood, then turned to Enzo. "It’s likely she was possessed. We need to check it out."
Amelia’s head snapped up. "I’m not possessed."
Enzo opened his laptop without comment, typed a few commands, and turned the screen toward her.
Amelia approached cautiously, half-expecting another sudden attack. The video began to play. There she was—on the security feed—walking the dark corridor with closed eyes, stopping at one door, then another, then pushing open the third and disappearing inside Dean’s room.
What the hell?
Her stomach dropped, a cold void opening inside her.
"Was I sleepwalking? Is this video even real?"
Enzo’s voice cut through her confusion. "Are you seriously asking us that?"
Amelia shook her head slowly, still staring at the frozen frame on the screen. Her own face stared back at her—eyes closed, expression peaceful, utterly unaware. A stranger wearing her skin.
"I really have no idea. I’ve never sleep walked before in my life. I don’t know how that happened."
Enzo closed the laptop with a hard click. "You’ll be checked. And if you are really possessed..."
He didn’t finish the sentence. Amelia already knew what the rest of it would be. The silence hung between them, heavy with unspoken threat.
"Get out."
She turned and walked out of the office in a daze. The corridor felt longer than usual, the walls pressing in on her. The video couldn’t be fake. The timestamp, the angle, the way she moved—it was all real.
Am I really possessed? I can’t be. That’s ridiculous. That’s something out of a horror movie. But then how do I explain last night? How do I explain any of it?
Back in her room she went through her morning routine as if floating outside her own body. She brushed her teeth, washed her face, changed clothes, all while digging desperately through her memory for any fragment of the night. Nothing. Just the darkness of sleep and then waking up on the floor.
Is that why I woke up on the floor? And how did I break the handle?
She stared at the snapped metal, the twisted remains of the lock. Someone like her shouldn’t have been able to do that. It was impossible. The more she tried to make sense of it, the tighter the pressure built behind her eyes.
She was packing the last of her books into her bag when a soft flutter of wings sounded behind her. The silver bird landed neatly on the edge of the bed.
Amelia turned, a tired smile tugging at her mouth. "Looks like you’re doing better." She sat on the mattress and held out a hand. The bird hopped closer, its dark eyes fixed on her. "I wish you could tell me what happened last night. Did you see me leave the room? Do you know how I ended up on the floor?"
The bird only tilted its head, offering no answers.
Amelia let out a frustrated breath and dropped her face into her hands. "I feel more crazy than ever. And how did Dean even spare my life? How did he believe me so easily? What did I do to him?" A shiver ran through her. "I’m scared to even imagine."
The broken door creaked open. Skye stepped inside, her eyes immediately landing on the ruined handle. She whistled low, her eyebrows rising.
"Well, well. Look who decided to go full horror-movie possessed last night. Did the evil spirit at least leave a review before it checked out, or was the hospitality not up to standard?"
Amelia lifted her head, too drained to rise to the bait. Her shoulders sagged. "I truly don’t know how that happened."
