Chapter 36: Chapter 36: The abnormal crew
Her sister immediately smacked her on the arm, the sound sharp in the quiet corner. "That’s rude. You don’t just ask someone that."
The talkative twin rubbed the spot, unrepentant, her expression unapologetic. "What? That’s what everyone has been talking about. It’s not like it’s a secret."
Kate’s voice cut in. "It’s not true. And whatever business Amelia has with them is none of ours to pry into."
The more sensible twin sighed and turned toward Amelia, her expression apologetic. "I apologize for my sister’s rude behavior." She then grabbed her twin’s wrist and gave her a pointed look. "Apologize."
"Fine. Sorry," the talkative one muttered, though she still looked more curious than apologetic, her eyes still studying Amelia with undisguised interest.
Amelia gave a small nod. "It’s fine."
Kate glanced around the table. "You should introduce yourselves. She doesn’t know your names yet."
The sensible twin offered a polite smile. "I’m Lila."
Her sister straightened, a hint of pride in her voice. "I’m Lana. And yes, I’m the one who actually says what everyone else is thinking—"
"—and has the self-preservation instincts of a suicidal moth," Lila finished dryly, shaking her head.
Lana shot her a look but didn’t argue, instead crossing her arms with a huff. The older guy wiped his mouth with a napkin, setting it aside. "Marcus."
The guy who had questioned Amelia’s timing gave a short nod, his arms still crossed. "Kai."
The last one, quieter than the rest, lifted two fingers in a casual wave, barely looking up from his food. "Theo."
Amelia quietly repeated the names in her mind, locking them in place.
Marcus glanced at her again, his fork pausing mid-air. "You coming to the mating ceremony the Moonfist territory is holding?"
"Yeah," Amelia answered, the word coming out flat.
Will they be there? Watching how I’m supposed to be intimate with the three of them in public? The thought alone made her want the ground to open up and swallow her whole. Her stomach churned.
The rest of lunch passed with lighter conversation—nothing too probing. Lana made a few more comments, each met with a pinch from Lila. When the break ended, they all stood, trays in hand, and went their separate ways.

Back at the estate, Amelia stepped out of the car expecting to see Skye waiting at the entrance like usual. Instead, Reid stood there, hands in his pockets, that signature smile already in place. The kind that never quite reached his eyes and always left a chill trailing down her spine.
What is he doing here? Why isn’t Skye here?
He reached for her hand as if it were the most natural thing in the world, his fingers warm against hers. "How was your day?" he asked, already guiding her inside, his pace was in no hurry.
Amelia glanced sideways at him, suspicious. "What is it? What did I do this time?"
Reid chuckled softly, the sound light and easy. "Can’t a man ask his wife how she’s doing?"
They walked in silence up the stairs and down the familiar hallway until he stopped in front of his own door. He pushed it open, waited for her to enter, then closed it behind them with a quiet click.
In one smooth motion he stepped in close, guiding her back until her shoulders met the wall. There was no space left to slip away. His hands rested on either side of her head, caging her in. She could smell his cologne—woodsy and sharp.
The playful edge in his expression faded into something more serious. His eyes searched hers. "I’m still curious about what happened between you and Dean last night," he said. "I don’t believe for a second that you had no idea what you were doing."
Amelia held his gaze, refusing to look away even though her pulse had picked up. "I told you. I was asleep. I don’t remember anything."
Reid’s smile slowly returned, a predatory curve that made her stomach flip. He reached down, slipped the strap of her bag from her shoulder, and let it drop to the floor with a soft thud.
"You will."
His hand settled on her thigh, fingers spreading slightly against the fabric of her trousers. The heat of his palm seeped through the material, branding her skin.
"If you want me to stop," he murmured, "you’d better start telling the truth."
His mouth grazed the side of her neck—just the lightest brush of lips and breath. Heat flooded her body so fast it almost made her dizzy. Her skin prickled. Her pulse jumped under his mouth, racing like a trapped bird.
"Stop—" she tried, but the word came out thin and unsteady lacking conviction.
Reid’s hand slid higher, then gently pushed her thighs apart. The shift in position made her intensely aware of the sudden, throbbing heat gathering between her legs—hotter than anything she had felt before. Her core clenched, already slick and aching. She couldn’t control it. Her body was betraying her.
"What did you do to him...?" Reid asked against her skin, but his voice had grown rougher. Her scent was filling his head, sweet and intoxicating, and his own body was reacting hard—harder than it had even during the dinner scene. The pull felt less controlled this time, almost demanding.
When Amelia’s hands came up to push against his chest, he caught both wrists and pinned it to the wall beside her head. He leaned in until his lips brushed the shell of her ear.
"I bet you’re already soaked," he whispered.
She wanted him to stop.
She didn’t want him to stop.
The two thoughts crashed together until she couldn’t think straight.
I need him to stop—right now—before this goes any further. But why does it feel so good? Why is my body already this wet for him?
No one had ever put her in this position before. Her cheeks burned with humiliation and something far hotter. Then his hand pressed firmly between her legs, rubbing slow circles against her core through the thin barrier of her trousers. The friction was devastating.
Oh god—right there—
Her hips jerked once, shamelessly seeking more even as her mind recoiled in panic.
What’s wrong with me? I’m dripping... I’m actually dripping for...no...
Wetness spread rapidly, her body growing slick and aching under his touch, every nerve lighting up with a desperate, unfamiliar hunger that terrified her as much as it consumed her.
More—please, more—No. Stop wanting this. Stop—
Mortified by the way her own body was betraying her, Amelia snapped her head forward and drove her forehead hard into his chin.
The impact cracked through the haze. Reid jerked back with a sharp sound of surprise, stumbling a step, the sexual tension shattering in an instant. His hand flew to his jaw.
"what the fuck"
