Chapter 350: Chapter 350: Two Heists?!

Chapter 350 – Two Heists?!

"What about a Heist for a change of mind?" Meadow said, clearly excited about all of this. It was obvious that she had been waiting for an occasion like this for a long time.

Sarah, meanwhile, found herself smiling at the proposal. Meadow was right. At that instant, she needed something to occupy her mind.

She needed it, or else she would find herself wallowing in sadness despite not wanting any of it.

So this mission was a welcome one, and she accepted it without much hesitation.

"I accept." Sarah said. "I think it will be a good way to take my mind off things. Thanks, Meadow."

"That’s perfect!" Meadow replied. "Now we—!"

"Wait a second, I think we are going way too fast now." Cassius intervened before all of this descended into chaos. "First, Meadow, is the information about the artifact of MasterofPaths being there actually true?"

"It’s 100% true." She replied with certainty. "My brother, Sea Wealth, works very closely with the Museum. Not only does he like to draw — and he is very good at it, I will show you his work if you want — but because of his love for art, he is also the one handling the money transfers related to the Museum."

"So that means he is close enough to hear some whispers about the whole thing." Cassius deduced.

"Exactly."

"Is the artifact one of the seven artifacts of MasterofPaths you once told me about?" Cassius continued.

"It’s certainly one of them. Can you imagine that, Cassius? This is truly a godsent opportunity! I have been waiting for this!"

"I still don’t understand one thing, though." He leaned forward, frowning, and Sarah took back her seat beside him. "Why would the Museum take such artifacts toward the Deathless Crusaders’ headquarters?"

"That’s something I still don’t have the full picture of." Meadow replied honestly after a pause. "I don’t know why, and it’s the first time something like this has ever happened, by the way."

"Which means we certainly won’t be the only ones wanting to steal the artifacts."

"Most likely."

"And you still want to do it?" Cassius asked.

Meadow didn’t even hesitate. "I do, Cassius. I do with all my heart." She replied fervently. "I am a huge fan of MasterofPaths, and his artifacts are something even all my wealth can’t buy. And I have heard many legends about them, all depicting those artifacts as something straight out of myth."

"Yeah, all of that is cool and all, but this whole thing smells like bloody bait to me, Meadow."

"Yet we are still going to sink our teeth into the bait and snatch it before we are pulled up." The Young Tycoon replied, not backing down.

Cassius looked at Sarah. "What do you think about this, Sarah? If we are going to do this, you will be in more danger than us. Meadow wants you to steal the artifacts."

"That means she has faith in me." Sarah said. "I can’t disappoint her, then."

"Sarah darling! You are the best!" Meadow chirped.

Sarah chuckled softly.

At that instant, Cassius knew it was too late. And the confirmation came soon after.

DING!

[You have received a Cursed Quest!]

[Quest: First To Catch The Bloody Fishes!]

[Description: The members of your Sect want a little heist. What troublesome members you have there, Last Born.

Unfortunately, though, you are not the only fools diving headfirst into this obvious trap.

However, in the end, it’s quite simple and possible: you just need to steal them faster and survive.]

[Rewards: Special attention from {Footsteps of the Thief}; Hidden Information about MasterofPaths’s Seven Artifacts and One Key.]

’Yeah, of course.’ Cassius rolled his eyes.

Now he needed to participate in one Heist only to do another after reaching the Deathless Prison.

At that point, he didn’t even know what to think about all of this, except to simply dive in and accept his fate.

Also, he had to admit that he was curious about the information concerning MasterofPaths.

"So?" Meadow prompted. "Are you in, Mr. Earth? This is our first official mission."

"Yeah." Sarah smiled. "We have been silent since our creation."

"Alright, alright." Cassius relented, sighing. "As you all goddamn wish. We are going to steal these things. However, we must plan it properly. We surely won’t be the only ones, and we don’t know our opponents."

"True. But with my influence, I can try to learn about some of them." Meadow said.

"Then try, and we will improvise the rest."

"I trust you." Meadow said. "You always find a way."

"Hey, don’t pressure me." Cassius grumbled. "We must also know the level of power we are going against. If we are against Third Ranks, it’s doable. But Fourth Ranks? We are fucking dead."

"Don’t jinx us, Cass! And I will give Sarah my entire supply of artifacts." Meadow said.

"And I will give you three spirits." Cassius added, thinking about the Triplets. "They will help you during this mission. And we are also going to help you from the inside."

"Alright. I will do my best." Sarah was both nervous and excited. She welcomed both feelings.

"Just be careful, and your identity must not be revealed."

"I will wear my Moon Mask." She replied. "The Queen made sure we can’t be divined by those with Seer and Prophet-like powers."

"Yeah, alright." Cassius nodded. "It’s settled, then."

"Perfect!" Meadow clapped her hands. "I am going to prepare as much as I can. I will get Will and Diaila ready too. Ah, and by the way, when are you going to invite Will into the Sect?"

"Why are you even giving him a nickname now?"

"Will is easier to say than William. Can you answer?"

"Maybe after the missions." Cassius replied. "I still need to observe him and try to build a connection with him first before telling him."

"That’s fair. Still," Meadow whispered, "it would have been easier if Isolde were here with us. Do you know where she is? I hope she is okay."

"Yeah," Sarah added, looking at Cassius. "It’s been a while since I heard from her or even saw her. Is she alright?"

"She is alright, yes, I guess." Cassius replied, lifting his head upward. "She went to the Damned Village for something, but I haven’t heard from her in a while now. Guess something happened to her phone."

"Should I look into it?" Meadow proposed. "I can send people there to take a look."

"I would appreciate it. Thanks, Meadow."

"Don’t mention it." She replied. "Well, see you later, guys. Sarah, whatever is happening to you, don’t give up, alright? I know we are not that close, but you can talk to me if needed."

"Oh," Sarah exclaimed, surprised by the words, then smiled sweetly. "Ah, yes. Thank you. I...I will do so."

"Perfect. Bye-bye." Meadow said at last. "And Cass, your first Chapter was truly not bad. You really love romance, don’t you?"

"Oh, you read it already? Good!" He beamed. "And yeah, let’s say I love drama."

"Pretty obvious, that one. You are the ultimate Drama Queen." She chuckled before hanging up, leaving Cassius staring blankly at his phone.

"Did she just call me a drama queen?" He mumbled under his breath.

Sarah chuckled beside him. "I think she did."

"..." Cassius said nothing.

"But what is the Chapter she just talked about?"

"Ah? Ah yes, it’s a short story I have been writing lately. I have only written the first Chapter for now."

"Can I read it?"

"You want to be my beta reader? Why not?" He smiled. "I will send it to you. You can read it and tell me your thoughts. It will help me."

"Aye." Sarah replied, smiling, enjoying the breeze around the beach. "I will do so."

It was peaceful, and in that brief moment of peace, Sarah momentarily forgot the pain wracking her inside, and the face of the man she had loved, and still loved despite everything.

"Come, Sarah. You can read while I braid your hair."

"...Argh."

...

At the same time, Isolde Amaris was walking slowly, limping, blood dripping all over her body like heavy rain.

In her two hands were the corpses of dead hounds, and she dragged them along as she limped toward the huge dark-red portal swirling before her.

Around her was a desolate place, the sand beneath her red from being soaked in blood for years.

Isolde’s body itself was a mess of blood and wounds, her face no longer even visible except for her cold, flat purple eyes filled with silent murder.

Her thoughts were deathly silent, nothing coursing through her mind at that instant except the need to finally enter the Fractured Land in this Damned Village.

As she finally reached the Fractured Land, Isolde began to hear rough, hurried footsteps echoing behind her.

She halted just in front of the portal, turned her head, and saw the man who had been pursuing her all this time still following her, albeit now with deep, nightmarish wounds marring his body.

Isolde had come to learn his name after so many days.

Or at least, his nickname in the Crimson Dagger.

He was called Hound.

"You are struggling for no reason, Olympias." Hound growled, coughing blood continuously, his eyes bloodshot and weeping blood as he looked at his two dead hounds in Isolde’s hands.

His own bonded beasts.

They were now dead because of Olympias’s disgusting power to erase her presence as if the world itself had forgotten her.

As if she had never existed.

It was an application of the Concept of Sound Hound had never witnessed, and it was chilling.

Because how could one fight someone you struggled to keep in mind? Someone you kept forgetting in the middle of battle, making you wonder who you were even fighting?

It was agonizing and horrific.

Hound was internally relieved that Olympias’s rank was still low, and thus the output and potency of her Skill were lacking.

But she was dreadful enough to kill his two beasts, making him unable to use his Soulblade.

He needed his beasts for that.

Hound’s anger intensified even more at the thought.

"If you enter the Fractured Land in your current state, you will fucking die." He spat, looking at her with deep hatred. "And if you don’t die, I will be here waiting for you, you fucking bitch, with members of my Sect. You are not getting out of this alive, Olympias! You are not, I promise you!"

Isolde stared him down before smiling emptily, revealing teeth stained red with her own blood and the black-green blood of the hounds in her hands.

"I was hungry. It’s been days since I ate." She said, looking at the two hounds in her hands. "Thank you for the feast."

"You fucking—!"

"And wait for me, Hound." She cut him off, looking at him with purple eyes devoid of any emotion. "I will come out, and I will kill every single one of you I find here."

She smiled.

"I promise you, you will not get out of this alive."

Without another word, Isolde jumped into the Fractured Land with the two dead hounds in her hands.
