Chapter 357: Chapter 357: New Friends

Chapter 357 – New Friends

Cassius, Keisha, and Natalia went to a gaming room deep in the Outer Ring.

They brought food and snacks with them and played over and over while eating, talking the whole time.

Keisha was indeed right. She was ridiculously good at games, especially the boxing game, which made her look like a professional.

She played against Natalia seven times. She won all of them. Natalia couldn’t accept such a blatant loss, so she challenged Keisha to a different kind of game — a volleyball game called Haikyuu.

Again, without any suspense, Keisha won with such ease it was mind-blowing.

Seeing that, Cassius grew almost afraid to play against her. It had been a very, very long time since he’d played a game, and he felt like he’d forgotten the feel of it.

Besides, the games he was used to playing weren’t sports games like the ones Kei and Naty were into.

They were real games with storylines, plots, and multiple POVs all converging at some point in the game.

It was fascinating.

The game {Chosen One}, the very game he was now reincarnated into, was among the worst games he’d ever played.

The only reason he’d liked it was his strange obsession with the Desdemona and Isolde. Beyond that, Cassius hadn’t enjoyed it much.

However, he didn’t regret playing the game. What he did regret was never having tried {Chosen One}’s second installment.

Hell, there were even rumors of a third game about to launch.

Cassius truly had no idea of the depth of the world he was now living in. All he really knew was the Badur Kingdom he was in, not even the rest of the Khatab Continent.

He remembered Kaden talking about some Free Cities in the Khatab Continent, cities completely free of any kingdom’s or empire’s influence.

There was also — and this one Cassius remembered very well, because it had almost made him play the second game right away — mention of strange beings similar to humans, but not human.

He was curious about that description. It felt like Kaden was describing other races, like elves and so on. And that trash-author friend of his had nodded, saying it was similar, but not quite.

However, Cassius had been so relentlessly focused on saving the Desdemona first that he’d never continued the game, which left him lacking a great deal of knowledge about all that.

And yet, he wasn’t entirely dissatisfied. Not knowing meant he could discover it all directly, for himself, in this world.

That realization gave him a sudden urge to travel the world, which made him realize something else:

’There’s no way I can stay in this academy for five years.’

It was impossible.

Fifth-years at the Academy were all Third Rank. No students ever went beyond that, even in their final year.

Which made sense, since progression was very difficult in this world.

But that also meant that once you reached Third Rank — which people normally did in their fourth year — there wasn’t much left to learn here.

Cassius’s generation was different.

They’d all reach Third Rank by the end of their first year, which was why Cassius knew many of his classmates would drop out before finishing.

In the game, Emrys never went to the second year, nor did his harem, according to the forums.

Cassius knew that was what he’d do too. And thinking about his wife, Isolde, he also knew she wouldn’t need to go to the fifth year either.

They could finally be together then, and travel together once they’d dealt with whatever they had to deal with inside the Badur Kingdom.

That thought brought him comfort, and he began to smile without realizing it. A smile that broke instantly when Keisha and Natalia dragged him in to play.

He played Natalia first, in a combat game. He lost.

Then he played Keisha. He lost within the first few seconds.

The embarrassment was real.

Cassius didn’t even know how to handle both girls mocking him. They went as far as pulling out their phones to photograph the screen and send it to their group chat.

At that point, Cassius knew he had no other choice: he needed to sacrifice Klaus.

So he showed both girls the picture of Klaus and Love, and swiftly steered the conversation away from his loss and towards Klaus’s love affair.

’I’m sorry, brother.’

"Is this actually real?!" Keisha exclaimed, silver eyes wide, staring at the pictures over and over. "Wow! Look at this one, Naty! Klaus’s head is on her chest!"

"Don’t look at this, Kei!" Natalia said, covering Keisha’s eyes.

"I’m very proud of this one, by the way," Cassius nodded to himself. "Thank the Queen I was fast enough to capture the moment."

"So you were right," Natalia said with a strange smile, Keisha peeking between her fingers, "there really is something between the two. But are you sure it’s love?"

"I’m quite sure," Cassius nodded. "They were far too obvious. But you know Klaus — he wouldn’t admit it that easily."

"Love seems the same type."

"Those two are so similar in so many ways," his lips twitched. "Won’t they end up killing each other if they get together?"

Natalia smiled and shrugged. "If Klaus survived his mother and Windy, he can survive this too."

"Ah!" Keisha exclaimed. "Klaus’s mother is scary!"

"Cassius’s mother is even scarier," Natalia shook her head. "Remember when we used to go to his house to play? His mother would stare at us like she was daring us to hurt him."

"Madam Sefira was..." Keisha didn’t finish her sentence, smiling with slightly trembling lips.

Cassius immediately knew what she was thinking. So did Natalia. They shifted the subject as fast as possible, not wanting to darken the mood with the past.

"Let’s keep playing, Kei. You beat Cassius for the first time in something — aren’t you happy?" Naty said, lifting Kei’s mood instantly.

Cassius realized he wouldn’t escape being mocked for his losses.

But then something struck him as he sat on the couch, watching Keisha and Natalia play, chips in his mouth.

"Guys," he called out, "what do you think about making a new friend?"

"Hm?" Both girls stopped abruptly, turning their attention to him.

"Friend?" Kei muttered.

"What do you mean?" Natalia added, confused.

"Yeah, a new friend," Cassius nodded. "I always see the two of you together, just the two of you. That’s nice, but maybe you could use one more friend to spend time with. Three is a great number."

"That means you have someone in mind," Naty said, narrowing her eyes. "Just spit it out."

"Sarah," he replied, smiling sadly. "I think making new friends would help her a lot after everything she just went through. So I’d appreciate it if you two could take the time to invite her, talk to her, and get to know her."

His smile deepened.

"I’m sure you’ll like her. She’s as sweet as Keisha, and as strong and driven as you, Naty."

"Sarah? You mean the prince’s maid, or lover, or whatever she is?" Natalia asked, while Kei listened closely.

"Well, she’s no longer any of those."

"Meaning?"

"Naty, sometimes you need to read between the lines," Cassius grumbled, sighed, then explained plainly. "Sarah loves Raven, but Raven loves Anesthesia. Now, surprise surprise, Raven chose to be with Anesthesia. They’re together now. Which means—"

"—Sarah was left behind," Natalia’s eyes turned slightly cold. "Why does this feel strangely familiar?"

Cassius smiled wryly but said nothing.

Natalia rolled her eyes and clicked her tongue. After a moment, she sighed and said, "Call her, and let’s see if she can come now."

"Right now?" the Last Born asked, arching an eyebrow.

"Yes," Naty agreed. "If we’re going to be friends, it’s better to start as soon as possible. And I... well, I feel like we’ll get along."

Keisha nodded in turn. "Yes! Let’s meet her!"

Cassius smiled, pleased. "I’ll call her, then. Thanks for giving it a try."

He took out his phone and called Sarah right away.

Natalia and Keisha looked at each other, nervous and excited at once. After all, this would be the first time they’d tried to befriend anyone besides Klaus and Cass.

They’d never really felt the need. They were content with each other.

But the girls couldn’t refuse Cassius’s request, since he rarely asked anything of them.

"Hm, I’ll still be your best friend, won’t I?!" Keisha asked cutely, hugging Natalia affectionately, as if afraid of losing her place.

Natalia chuckled and patted her head. "No one can replace you, Kei. You’re my angel. No, you’re our angel. If anything, I’m the one who should be worried."

"No! Don’t worry! Naty is my favorite!"

"What?" Cassius cut in instantly. "How can this woman be your favorite and not me?!"

"Know your place," Natalia teased. "I’m the favorite."

Keisha chuckled nervously and pulled Cassius into the hug too, embracing them both.

"You’re all my favorites," she said. "Naty, Klaus, and you, Cassius...you’re my favorite people in the world. Thanks for accepting me and loving me."

Natalia hugged her even tighter. "Thanks for being so sweet."

Cassius smiled. "Thanks for being you."

Keisha giggled, and they all laughed heartily together.

Once they’d settled down, Natalia asked whether Sarah was coming.

"Oh, yes. She said she’s on her way."

But Sarah was not, in fact, on her way.

She was actually stressing out badly, because she had no idea what to wear to meet her potential new friends, who happened to be nobles.

"...Argh!!!! Clothes! Clothes! Where are my clothes????"

Sarah was freaking out. Literally.
