Last Gun Alchemist

Chapter 364: Today’s News

Four girls...

Four ponytails...

Ezra looked at them for a moment, his plain black eyes moving from one hairstyle to another.

Funny.

He thought quietly.

The four girls were walking together at almost the same pace, their newly styled ponytails moving gently behind them whenever they took another step, before the stopped walking.

"Why would you call him a loner?"

Willow suddenly asked.

Her serious gaze settled on Vera.

"I have my reasons."

Vera replied without changing her expression.

"And whatever I call him shouldn’t be a problem."

"I do have a problem with it."

Ezra spoke flatly.

His eyes narrowed slightly as he looked at Vera.

Sasha immediately laughed.

"Hahah..."

She covered her mouth lightly, but the amusement in her voice was obvious.

"You’re the first boy I’ve seen who has the same sharp tongue and plain eyes as Vera."

She looked between the two of them.

"Even my brother, who likes acting cold all the time, can’t stand Vera talking. She bullies him every time, and I honestly feel so sad for him."

Sasha placed a hand against her chest and made an expression as though she genuinely cared about Ravenor.

But she didn’t.

Not even a little.

Whenever she watched Vera verbally corner her brother, Sasha considered it free entertainment.

The more helpless Ravenor looked, the more amusing she found it.

She glanced at Ezra again and nodded as though she had finally reached an important conclusion.

"No wonder the two of you danced so much in sync."

Ezra raised an eyebrow.

Sasha’s smile widened.

Diane, who had been walking between Vera and Willow while barely keeping her eyes open, suddenly spoke again.

"Selena also danced with him, and it was just as beautiful."

Her sleepy light-blue eyes moved toward Ezra.

Selena smiled softly.

"I can’t say my dance was anywhere close to Vera and Mr. Ezra’s dance."

"Mr.?"

Vera slowly turned her head toward Selena.

Her expression remained completely plain.

"I call all gentlemen Mr., Vera."

Selena answered calmly, with her elegant smile never disappearing.

But...

Ahhh...

That was close.

Selena silently sighed inside.

But seriously...

Why would Diane bring up my dance with him?

And why is Sasha talking like that?

She’s making it sound as though Vera and Ezra are soulmates or something.

Her thoughts were becoming increasingly chaotic.

Yet none of that appeared on her face.

Outwardly, Selena remained composed, maintaining the same elegant smile as before.

"I see."

Vera replied plainly.

"If anyone had danced with him, they would have sparkled too."

She looked toward Ezra.

"His dance technique is simply that good."

Willow nodded in agreement.

There was no teasing in her voice.

She genuinely believed what she had said.

"When we have another dance gathering, would you please dance with me?"

Willow asked Ezra calmly.

"I would like to experience what the girls now call the Ezra-Royal."

"Ezra what?"

Ezra raised an eyebrow again.

He had never heard that name before.

Sasha immediately laughed.

"He doesn’t even know."

Her playful tone made it clear that she was enjoying the situation.

Ezra looked around at the group plainly.

Then he noticed something else.

The number of eyes directed toward him had increased.

Some students were watching openly.

Others pretended they weren’t looking while still stealing glances in his direction.

His freshly cleaned hair, neat academy uniform, and the fact that he had just come from training made him stand out more than usual.

Ezra quietly sighed.

I’ve already wasted enough time.

"I’ll be taking my leave now, ladies."

He turned slightly.

"I have lunch to eat."

He had already noticed the intense looks coming from some of the students nearby.

Of course, it wasn’t only the stares from the boys.

He could also feel several girls looking at him with more interest than they normally would.

But he didn’t care about any of the stares, even though he knew the reason for them.

He simply just wanted to eat.

"Leaving so soon?"

Selena asked softly.

Ezra paused.

Vera looked at Selena.

"Do you want to talk more with him?"

"No."

Selena shook her head elegantly.

"I understand he’s going to eat his lunch. I’m only saying the words the way you would."

"I don’t sound like that, Selena."

Vera replied flatly.

Selena paused.

Then she laughed elegantly, covering her mouth lightly with one hand.

"Hahaha... I know that."

She smiled.

"I’m terrible at impersonation."

"I see why you’re very terrible at it."

Vera answered immediately.

Selena’s laughter slowly stopped.

Her elegant smile remained on her face.

But her eyes narrowed slightly.

This girl.

She didn’t even need to ask whether Vera was intentionally making fun of her.

Because she already knew the answer.

Ezra decided there was no reason to remain any longer.

"I’ll see you later."

He gave the girls a small nod before turning around.

The Flowers continued toward their own pavilion while Ezra walked in the opposite direction.

The academy grounds remained busy during the lunch period, with students scattered across the pathways, pavilions, and open spaces, enjoying the short break before their afternoon classes began.

Eventually, Ezra reached the pavilion he had booked.

"Master."

Lucy stood immediately and bowed with a bright smile.

Ezra nodded before sitting down.

Then, Lucy quickly served his lunch, placing each dish neatly in front of him.

Ezra had just picked up his utensils when...

Squeak!

A sharp sound suddenly came from the speakers attached to several trees around the academy.

The sound also came from the speakers installed inside some of the pavilions.

Several students immediately looked up.

Then two voices echoed across the academy.

"Good afternoon, our fellow Students of Royals!"

"We are back again!"

The two voices spoke with the same cheerful energy that had become familiar to the students.

"It’s news time, guys!"

The female voice took over.

"Although we’re very tired from all the activities we had during the Practical Combat Class, we still have to bring you today’s news!"

The male voice smoothly followed.

Many students who had been eating, relaxing, or chatting with their friends immediately began paying attention.

Because the New Club’s daily broadcast was something most students had already grown accustomed to listening to.

It wasn’t simply background noise.

The club often brought information about events happening throughout the Royal Academy, and missing an important announcement could sometimes mean missing out on something useful.

"There are plenty of important news stories to bring you today."

The two newscasters spoke with renewed energy.

"So, let’s begin!"

The female voice continued.

"Our first session is news surrounding the Royal Academy."

The male newscaster spoke first.

"Third Grade up to Sixth Grade Ese is now available for purchase at the Royal Academy Shopping Complex, so all you rich nobles and non-nobles, get ready to buy your Ese!"

Several students immediately laughed.

Some even began discussing whether they should purchase through the Skynet Shopping site of the store selling the Ese in the complex.

The female newscaster continued.

"Next, we have an upcoming study event for us, first-years, which will be held by the Vice Principal himself!"

She paused dramatically.

"The Alchemy Scholar Preach!"

Her voice became more excited.

"Many of us might even gain enlightenment from it. Who knows?"

The male newscaster smoothly took over.

"And now, our last piece of Royal Academy news."

The female host spoke again.

"Professor Kent."

The moment she said his name...

The atmosphere across several pavilions changed.

Students who had been enjoying their meals suddenly looked displeased.

Even the female newscaster’s energetic voice became noticeably weaker.

"He said those students who claim to have mastered the Law of Inversion should be very ready for the test next Monday."

She paused.

"Or else... they could die?"

She stretched the final word, sounding as though she herself found the statement strange.

Several students who weren’t required to take the test immediately sighed in relief.

They were glad they weren’t among the unfortunate students who had claimed mastery.

Veda, who was eating at another pavilion with Nickolas, Linda, Tracy, and the two attendants of both him and Tracy, couldn’t help laughing when he heard the announcement.

He shook his head.

"Professor Kent really doesn’t know how to encourage people."

Nickolas smiled.

Tracy covered her mouth while laughing softly.

Linda simply continued eating.

Behind them, Veda’s attendant, Cole, stood quietly beside Tracy’s attendant.

Both attendants remained behind their respective masters and mistresses.

"Now that that’s out of the way..."

The female newscaster’s energetic voice suddenly returned.

"Let’s bring you the news outside the Academy!"

The male newscaster followed.

"News happening around Britannia."

The female host spoke next.

"The Silver Wheels has announced its newest vehicle, which is expected to rival the Phantom Rolls!"

Her voice became more excited.

"Owned by The Eclipse. Silver Wheels will finally release the mystery vehicle on Saturday!"

Several students immediately stopped eating.

Even those who had been talking began paying attention.

"So, our dearest senior, Louis Evergrey, will be present on the announcement day as the proud creator of the vehicle that will rival the Phantom Rolls!"

The male newscaster spoke calmly.

"I’m so excited to see what he made!"

The female newscaster sounded genuinely excited.

"Will this actually be the beginning of a rivalry between an already established young craftsman of Britannia..."

The male voice paused briefly.

"And a rising craftsman of Britannia?"

The excitement in his voice increased.

Across the academy, students began whispering.

"The Silver Wheels vehicle is coming out soon, that’s amazing"

"So, it was actually Louis Evergrey who made it?"

"A vehicle that can rival the Phantom Rolls? Do you think that’s actually possible?"

"Sir Louis can do it."

"Seriously?"

Even students who had previously been more interested in their lunch had begun paying attention.

The announcement had successfully captured the academy’s interest.

A rivalry between two young craftsmen was not something students got to witness every day.

And with the name Phantom Rolls already carrying such weight throughout Britannia...

Everyone wanted to see whether Louis Evergrey could actually produce a vehicle capable of standing against it.

The lunch period suddenly felt much less peaceful.

The students had another topic to discuss.

And judging from the excitement spreading across the pavilions...

The announcement was going to be one of the main conversations throughout the academy for the rest of the day.
