Once the words left Ezra’s mouth, his body reacted almost immediately.
He sharply turned, extending the hand holding the Glock 40 forward.
Bang!
The gunshot exploded through the snowy fog forest.
The sound echoed between the trees, mixing with the faint noise of falling snow.
Ezra’s dull black eyes remained fixed on the direction of the shot.
The bullet had already left the muzzle.
It traveled through the fog with enough force to tear through the head of the Young Ghost Crawler that had been airborne behind him, preparing to pounce.
Krrrraaaak...
The creature screamed.
Its body twisted in the air as the bullet pierced through its head.
It fell toward the snow.
But before its body could even hit the ground, it disappeared.
Ezra’s eyes narrowed.
An illusion.
He had expected it.
The Ghost Crawler’s ability had already been researched, and after understanding how its illusion worked, he knew that simply counting what he could see would be useless.
Immediately...
Ezra bent his body down.
Whoosh!
A web passed over his head.
He could feel the movement of the air as it swept above him.
Ezra didn’t waste time looking at the web.
His Glock 40 was already moving.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
His body spun while he remained bent low, and the three shots tore through the fog toward the Young Ghost Crawlers surrounding him.
The creatures moved between the trees.
Some crawled along the ground.
Others rushed from the sides.
Several were already preparing to pounce.
Krrrraaaak!
Krrrraaaak!
Krrrraaaak!
Their screams echoed throughout the snowy forest.
Ezra immediately rolled away from his current position.
Several webs struck the place where he had been standing.
Thud!
Splatter!
The webs landed across the snow and the surrounding ground.
But the danger wasn’t only the webs.
The snow beneath them began melting.
A poisonous liquid spread across the surface, releasing dangerous smoke into the cold air.
Ezra didn’t bother looking back.
His entire focus remained on the Young Ghost Crawlers approaching from the front and the ones moving behind him.
He pushed himself upward.
His feet planted firmly into the snow.
His body rose.
Then he moved.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The Glock 40 continued firing.
Ezra’s hands moved quickly as he aimed at the incoming Young Ghost Crawlers.
His shots were controlled.
He wasn’t simply firing toward the creatures because there were too many of them.
He was watching their movements.
Whenever one moved into a clear position, he fired.
A Young Ghost Crawler rushed toward him.
Bang!
The bullet struck it.
Another came from his left.
Ezra shifted his body.
Bang!
The creature was shot down.
Another moved from his right.
Ezra turned.
Bang!
He fired again.
It wasn’t only the Young Ghost Crawlers in front of him that he was shooting.
Ezra suddenly stood upright and sharply turned toward his back.
His arm followed the movement of his body.
Bang!
Another creature dropped.
But, he didn’t remain facing backward.
His feet shifted.
His body turned smoothly back toward the front.
Bang!
Another Young Ghost Crawler fell.
The movement continued.
Front.
Back.
Left.
Right.
Every time a Young Ghost Crawler stepped forward, Ezra’s gun followed it.
Every time one attempted to close the distance, he fired.
In the foggy and snowy forest, where there was no sunlight reaching the ground, the flashes from Ezra’s gun became some of the only bright lights visible.
Bang!
Bang!
Bang!
The flashes appeared between the trees.
The screams of the dying Young Ghost Crawlers echoed across the forest.
The sound of gunfire mixed with the strange cries of the creatures, creating a noise that traveled through the thick fog.
Ezra’s dull black eyes moved from left to right.
He wasn’t simply fighting.
He was analyzing.
Every movement.
Every attack.
Every illusion.
Everything he had gathered from the battle was being processed inside his mind.
Each of the Young Ghost Crawlers has its own illusionary copies.
His eyes followed another creature moving through the fog.
Which makes their numbers appear much greater than they actually are.
Normally, that would make their prey feel overwhelmed.
A person surrounded by dozens of monsters would naturally focus on the number of enemies in front of them.
The mind would see too many targets.
Too many movements.
Too many attacks.
And eventually, fear would take control.
But Ezra wasn’t allowing that to happen.
He had already understood the problem.
The creatures he could see weren’t necessarily real.
Ezra shifted his body slightly.
A poisonous spit passed beside him.
The liquid flew through the space where his body had been only a moment earlier before landing on the snow.
Ssssss...
White smoke rose from the ground.
The snow beneath the liquid melted quickly.
Ezra didn’t look at it.
His attention remained on the incoming Young Ghost Crawlers.
His thumb moved.
Click.
He unlocked the magazine of his Glock 40.
The empty magazine came loose.
Ezra caught it and immediately reached into his Space Bag.
He took out a new magazine.
His movements remained calm despite the number of creatures surrounding him.
He inserted the new magazine into the Glock 40.
Click.
The magazine locked into place.
Ezra raised the gun toward the Young Ghost Crawler that had just spat the poisonous liquid at him.
Bang!
The first shot struck the creature.
Bang!
The second bullet followed.
The bullet pierced through the same spot on its head.
The Young Ghost Crawler died instantly.
Its body fell into the snow.
Ezra’s eyes remained calm.
But illusions aren’t solid existences...
He had already reached the answer.
His left leg stepped onto the snow.
Crunch.
The sound was small.
Almost insignificant.
But that was all Ezra needed.
Because illusions don’t interfere with the physical world.
They existed inside the mind of the person affected by them.
The victim’s mind accepted what it saw as reality.
A false creature could appear real.
A false person could appear real.
A false environment could appear real.
But the illusion itself couldn’t physically change the world.
Ezra understood the difference.
His senses spread outward.
Cognis flowed through his body.
His perception expanded through the surrounding environment.
The brilliance of his senses spread through the snowy fog.
The Young Ghost Crawlers surrounding him began disappearing from his perception one by one.
Not because they were moving away.
Because they weren’t real.
Ezra used the sound of wind pressure created by its collision with the environment and the bodies of the Young Ghost Crawlers.
The information reached his senses.
The sounds were different.
Real bodies interacted with the environment.
Illusions didn’t.
Slowly, the number of Young Ghost Crawlers surrounding him decreased.
One.
Then another.
Then another.
The overwhelming group that had surrounded him became smaller.
Now Ezra knew their actual number.
There were still many.
But they were no longer an impossible number.
His eyes moved across the fog.
He had finally separated what was real from what wasn’t.
Ezra placed the Glock 40 back into his Space Bag.
At the same time, he circulated Cognis through his veins and directed it toward his legs.
His muscles tightened.
Boom!
Ezra jumped.
Two webs flew beneath him.
Poisonous spits struck the position where he had been standing only a moment earlier.
The snow melted where the liquid landed.
Ezra was already in the air.
His body moved forward.
He passed his Cognis into his Black Magnetic Gloves.
White Cognis moved through the gloves in thin streams of light.
His hands tightened.
At the same moment, he took out his Harpoon Gun.
Bang!
The harpoon shot forward.
It crossed the air and struck a tree close to Ezra’s left.
The thin steel rope immediately pulled tight.
It bulged from the sudden force.
Then it dragged Ezra toward the left.
His body changed direction in midair.
Every Young Ghost Crawler turned toward his new position.
Several reacted immediately.
Their bodies moved.
Webs shot toward him.
But Ezra’s sudden movement was too fast.
The webs missed.
He was already moving away from them.
Ezra landed hard against the body of a Spruce tree.
Bam!
The impact shook the tree.
Heavy piles of snow resting on its leaves fell from above.
Whump!
Snow dropped around him.
Ezra’s hands came together.
Clap!
Several Black Steel bars were already falling toward the ground beneath him.
Cognis flowed from his veins into his palms.
The Cognis moved through his body before gathering in his hands.
A Gun Alchemy Circle began forming.
White Cognis traced the lines of the circle.
Ezra went down.
Several Young Ghost Crawlers were already rushing toward his position.
Their mouths opened.
Venomous spit gathered.
Ezra moved.
He weaved between the attacks.
One poisonous spit passed close to his shoulder.
Another struck the snow behind him.
The Black Steel materials dropped onto the ground.
Ezra dropped with them.
His hand slammed against the snow.
Boom!
The Alchemy Circle sparked.
White Cognis shot outward like lightning.
The Black Steel bars began changing.
They melted.
Compressed.
And Merged.
The metal twisted and reshaped itself beneath the force of the Gun Alchemy.
The separate pieces formed into two compact firearms.
Two Micro Uzi dual-wielding SMGs.
Ezra caught them.
His eyes moved across the weapons.
The biggest advantage of these SMGs wasn’t their raw power.
Their advantages were their firing rate, ammunition capacity, and compact size.
That was different from the Binder-rank firearms Ezra had created.
The Glock 40.
The Desert Eagle.
And the other guns he had created that had eventually reached the Binder rank.
Those weapons possessed greater raw power.
The Micro Uzi was different.
But Ezra liked its firing rate.
He liked its compactness.
And he liked how much ammunition it could carry.
So, he had improved it.
To elevate the SMG into a force which could compete in the Adept Rank Firearms.
Ezra had changed the caliber.
He had also changed the shape of the bullet.
The result was now in his hands.
A weapon designed around rapid fire while still carrying more power than the original Micro Uzi.
He had given the two guns a name.
Twin Viper.
Classified as an Adept-Rank Gun.
Ezra raised both SMGs.
The incoming Young Ghost Crawlers were already rushing toward him.
The moment they caught sight of the muzzles of the Twin Vipers, something changed in their movements.
A strange sensation spread through them.
A sensation they understood instinctively.
Death.
But it was already too late.
Ezra’s fingers tightened around the triggers.
He pressed them down.
Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang!
Bang! Bang!
The Twin Vipers erupted.
Rapid gunfire tore through the snowy forest.
The bullets moved forward in a dense stream, each one designed with a sharper shape and greater density through compressed Black Steel.
They flew toward the Young Ghost Crawlers like small missiles.
The creatures rushed forward.
The bullets met them head-on.
And the forest was filled with the sound of gunfire once again.
