Lazy Salvation

Back to the Beginning

He felt himself falling.

Down, and down, without end. Ashen did not know how long it would last, but he knew for sure that it was taking much more time than the previous times.

Finally, he saw a black glow amid the whiteness of his surroundings. He thought it was finally over, but instead, the glow began to morph into a woman.

She appeared to be in her twenties, but despite being older than the last time he saw her, Ashen instantly recognized her.

The spirit of the Beholder.

He wanted to ask why she was here, but unfortunately, his current state prevented him from doing so. All he could do was silently watch.

“Father… there is not much time, so I will explain the essentials…”

Despite growing from the little girl who jumped around whenever she saw him, she still insisted on calling him father. Ashen found her persistence endearing, if nothing else.

“First of all, I don’t know exactly at what point in history you will land this time,” she spoke urgently. “The activation of the Beholder happened in a rush because your life was on the line, but from the amount of mana absorbed, it will surely be a distant past.”

Ashen banished his lingering thoughts and decided to focus his attention on her words.

The last thing he wanted was a repeat of the Time Loop, so he focused on absorbing as much information as possible.

“One thing is for sure: the body you will inhabit appears to be too weak. I don’t know the reason for that. It could be because of its race, or other circumstances, but if you continue as you are, you will die the moment you possess it.”

‘Now… what kind of fresh bullshit is this?’

“The reason for that is your own concepts. A fragile vessel would not be able to handle them and would be destroyed at once.”

‘Fantastic.’

“That is why I’m going to seal all your concepts within the Beholder this time, so do not be startled by their absence.”

‘Haah… good grief… I can’t catch a break, can I?’

The Beholder’s spirit, perhaps noticing his feelings from his expression, managed a flustered response as she frantically waved her hands around.

“Ahh… I’m really sorry… even after growing up so much, I always manage to mess up… please don’t be mad, father…”

‘No, you did nothing wrong. I should thank you for saving my life, dear daughter.’

Ashen did not know if she could hear his thoughts now, but he tried his best to convey them through his expression.

Thankfully, the spirit managed a sigh of relief before saying with a brighter expression.

“Be that as it may, I managed to sneak in a gift for you. I hope you like it~”

‘Oh?’

“It’s—”

Before she could reveal the so-called gift, the transition seemed to have come to an end, and a bright light swallowed them all.

This time, Ashen was greeted with darkness.

Normally, he would have been bewildered, asked himself questions, and tried to figure out his circumstances. But a sudden rush of sleep engulfed him, and he drifted alongside it until his consciousness cut off.

The phenomenon repeated itself many times, with each time lasting a bit longer.

Through it all, Ashen failed to understand where he was. Even forming simple thoughts was a monumental task.

The only thing he realized was that he was not alone in this strange place. Another entity lived beside him, and it appeared to be in the same state as him.

They were close enough to feel each other, and at times, Ashen even felt himself hugging it without realizing it. Perhaps that was why he nursed a faint sense of affection towards it as time passed.

Finally, one day, he felt the space tremble.

‘An earthquake?’

A piercing light cracked through the darkness, and before long, Ashen felt himself pass through it.

“Waaaaahhhh~”

‘So I was a fetus. And that space was my own mother’s womb.’ Ashen thought as he sucked on his mother’s tit diligently, drinking her milk to feed this baby body of his.

Those reflections got cut off every couple of seconds, disallowing him from maintaining a fluid train of thought.

‘This baby brain… honestly…’

It was obvious that his still undeveloped brain was struggling to keep up with his mature thoughts.

Still, with enough time, he was able to observe his surroundings and notice some facts.

For one, the entity that had been his roommate in that space appeared to be his sibling. That was made obvious by the fact that another baby was sucking on his mother’s other tit.

‘I have a twin sibling now… hurray…’

Another thing he noticed was the place they were in. It was a dreary place where the only light source was dim lamps. The rocks that made up the walls and ceilings clued him in that they were inside some kind of cave.

‘It doesn’t seem like my new family is well off if they are living in this kind of place…’

“Ah~ my baby… you sure are a gluttonous little cutie, aren’t you~”

Ashen raised his head and noticed that his twin had long since finished feeding and was blissfully asleep. He, in turn, was still sucking like there was no tomorrow.

It couldn’t be helped. With the amount of thoughts his little brain was going through, asking for more nutrition was, of course, necessary.

That was aside from the fact that he wanted to feed as much as he could. No matter what would happen next, being a strong, healthy baby couldn’t hurt, right?

“Oho, look at his golden eyes, so cute!! My Ashen is the most handsome~”

His own mother did not seem to mind either way. She boasted a large chest that did not seem to dry no matter how much he sucked. At most, she would coo and gush at him in the meantime, but she never stopped him or looked particularly uncomfortable by it.

“Blurp—!”

“Oh, you are done? I guess now it’s time to sleep… goodnight, baby…”

Indeed. Sleep was already taking hold once more. Ashen guessed that he would be knocked out for the next twenty hours at least.

As his eyes closed, he made one last observation.

‘This new mom of mine is quite the beauty. That means I will be quite handsome in this life too, right? Hehe…’
