Liam had no idea what to make of the situation. He recognized that weapon as tall as him, but the development simply made no sense.

Several meters away, Liam spotted the bear. Its nose was still a mess, but it was frozen on the spot, trembling among the boulders that had fallen on the shattered floor, too afraid to make a move.

Liam held back a gulp as he straightened, finally sending his gaze to the ceiling, not daring to tilt his head too much despite his mask getting in the way.

The sealed caves near the ceiling had larger yet still short plateaus to allow a more direct view of the battles below. The same went for the one where the explosion had unfolded, which now featured a woman in her forties standing on it, if you could call her that.

The woman had long, unruly black hair that reached to her waist. She had broad shoulders and muscular arms, her sleeveless, worn-out dark-grey robe highlighting them. She was tall, as tall as Liam, and a huge shape wrapped in inscribed blood-red cloth hung from her back.

Liam saw the black handle peeking from the cloth before being forced to look away, that single glance sending his mind into a frenzy of instinctive fear and something more insidious. It was as if its mere sight was polluting his thoughts, drenching his face in sweat.

The other object that claimed Liam’s gaze didn’t really improve his predicament. He saw the leafing expert’s rather manly, rugged face, her deep scowl enhancing that feature. Moreover, her black eyes were like the deepest abyss twinkling with the brightest fury.

It hurt to look directly into those eyes. Liam had to divert his gaze once more, but that didn’t stop him from feeling stabbed. The so-called Demoness was still studying him, and that attention seemed to pierce his very soul.

One thing was clear. Liam wasn’t ready to face leafing experts, not even close.

Nevertheless, as Liam grew more used to that piercing, boundless pressure, his mind connected a few dots. It hurt just to remember what hung from the Demoness’ back, but its shape suggested a huge greatsword similar to the one in front of Liam.

Before Liam could draw his own conclusions, another order resounded from above. "Lift it."

The order wasn’t loud, but Liam still felt as if it could squash him into a pulp or tear him apart. Cluelessness truly was bliss. With his current experience and perception, he could truly feel the gap from the leafing stage in all its terrifying magnitude.

Luckily, the predicament didn’t offer much of a choice. A leafing expert had given an order, meaning a rooting expert had to obey.

The greatsword before Liam didn’t look anything special. It was no magical item. It seemed made from a rank 2 silver alloy, but nothing else.

Liam wrapped his left hand around the long handle and frowned behind the mask. That thing was heavy, very much so, and it took all of his strength to lift it with one arm.

A sense of dejavu invaded Liam. He was pretty sure that things had gone exactly like that during the Disciplinary Elder’s lessons, except for what followed.

"You," The Demoness spoke again, her eyes now targeting the bear, making it shudder even harder. "Attack."

The bear didn’t even try to oppose the order. Liam couldn’t even wonder how much of it the creature had understood since it directly charged at him, crushing any boulder or hindrance on its path.

Time was short, but Liam didn’t have much to consider. His assignment was clear, and he only knew a handful of battle stances that involved the greatsword anyway.

Liam put a second hand on the handle by the time the bear reached him, its paws already closing on him. His entire back tensed as he swung the greatsword down, its incredible weight and his strength making the dull blade a non-issue.

The bear’s head split, alongside its neck, and whatever part of its body the huge blade reached.

Liam found himself surrounded by gore, his entire front stained by blood, a pool of that drowning his feet. The greatsword’s tip was on the floor, connected to the intact half of the bear’s body, the other split into two parts, one on his left and the other on his right.

What would have taken Liam a series of precise blows at the same spot during multiple close exchanges had ended just like that. Still, he didn’t feel any shock. After all, he was aware of the advantage weapons provided.

Nevertheless, certain characteristics stood out. Liam couldn’t be blind to them after spending six months learning to make the most out of his superior strength.

Huge weapons had higher range and destructive power, but their weight and poor maneuverability compensated for that. It was why Eugene had made such a big deal about his weapon. The axe’s ability to become light at will removed its greatest weakness.

Liam could achieve a similar result through raw strength alone, which actually deepened such huge weapons’ advantages. He could wield that heavy greatsword without much hindrance, enabling a mere alloy to inflict devastating damage.

With the rank 2 knife, poisonous properties aside, Liam would still have needed to dance around the bear’s attack to inflict a precise blow at its head.

With an ordinary knife-shaped rank 2 alloy, Liam would have needed to avoid thrusting it in tough areas, afraid that it would have snapped or failed to pierce the bone.

Instead, Liam had only needed to swing the greatsword down to almost cleave the level two beast in half. It had been simple, effortless, basically requiring no skill at all, even saving him from facing danger.

The Demoness seemed to share Liam’s train of thought.

"That’s better!" The Demoness laughed heartily. "Tonight, you will come to my quarters!"

Luckily, the world didn’t shake anymore. The Demoness’ presence even left, allowing debris to resume falling. When Liam looked up, he couldn’t see her, let alone understand where she had gone.
