Another Qi-Storage Pill ended up in Liam’s mouth, refilling his meridians once more, albeit not without repercussions. That was already the fifth he had used since the fight with Julian, and his body was starting to complain.

The issue was more mental than physical, like the weakness caused by a cold. A body just wasn’t meant to be emptied and refilled so many times so quickly, and there was also the weight of the employed techniques to consider.

Compared to when Liam had fought Jessica, his body endured the struggle better. Still, he remained drenched in sweat, having suffered a financial loss unbearable for most rooting experts.

Yet, there was no other option. Only the Sky-Spitting Bolt had the power to pierce the two defensive layers at a distance, enabling a preemptive strike. Liam also had to pour all the Qi he had into the weapon art to leave nothing to chance.

The effort had paid off. Liam hadn’t expected the Church’s formation to bring the Priest back to life, but he had ultimately died, and the plan could finally move to the next phase.

Liam watched everything from the sky, floating on the fan. The army led by Black Hound and Red Boar had entered Whispering Wind’s mist and were about to launch a frontal clash.

Master Vermillion was behind the troops with Colleen, both ready to offer support. As for Grace, she was nowhere to be seen, her figure and whole presence hidden by the cloaking white dust.

All that was left was to pierce the dome and compound shield. Whispering Wind would clear the yellow fumes at that point, cleansing the gap the Master’s Pride had created to escape the encirclement.

’Can they do it?’ Liam couldn’t help but wonder, his bow at the ready.

Seven Hellish Steps aside, Liam had no way of destroying those golden barriers. At most, he could attempt to carve a path for himself through the Phantom Talons, but that just wouldn’t be enough.

Liam’s group needed pure chaos stemming from a sudden victory. That was the only way to gain a slight edge over the Church that could enable the following steps. Endless, unwinnable battles would be the only result otherwise.

That was why Liam had left the matter to Black Hound and Red Boar. They were in charge of destroying the barriers. They had claimed they could, but Liam couldn’t just ignore the matter altogether.

Liam might have a strict idea of teammates, but he didn’t trust his current companions, so his brain churned out plans.

’I don’t know how much more abuse my body can take,’ Liam considered. ’But the Sky-Splitting Bolt works, and the formation can’t have endless energy.’

The dying cries Liam had heard earlier through Whispering Wind’s technique the first time he had hit the Priest had revealed some of the formation’s limits. Checking it up closer now even confirmed that point.

Somehow, the formation could deny death at the cost of other lives. It was honestly unfathomable, especially since the effects were far more immediate than any healing pill Liam had ever heard or read about.

No one even seemed surprised about the event, meaning the Church’s underlings were offering themselves willingly, making Liam wonder whether he should kidnap one of them and have him tell him all of that strange organization’s secrets.

Nevertheless, Liam’s main focus remained on the sheer math of things. If the formation drew strength from numbers, he could continue killing until that was no more.

Sure, using a rank 3 weapon art on rooting and foundation experts was a waste, but Liam had no other way of piercing the golden barriers. He had no more Master’s Prides, and his rank 3 Poisonous Cloud Pills needed somewhat direct hits.

’If the others can’t do it,’ Liam accepted, ’I’ll run myself dry and kill until the formation collapses. I’ll just get Grace and me out at that point.’

That mental preparation soon revealed itself to be pointless.

The encirclement didn’t stand still as the army rushed through the mist. Despite the assaulted section having lost its leader and being trapped in yellow fumes, the Church reacted.

The white mist abruptly dispersed as over a hundred golden bullets flashed through it, almost reaching the incoming army.

That enormous barrage felt close to a rank 3 martial art, albeit it was too widespread for each bullet to carry deadly power, as long as defensive techniques were put against them.

Most rooting experts in the army would probably survive, but many would suffer injuries, lowering their battle prowess before the clash could even begin.

Still, that predicament never came to fruition.

Black Hound abandoned his calm pace at the sight of the bullets, suddenly shooting ahead, intercepting the barrage before it could crash onto the army.

The branching expert stomped his foot on the ground while slamming his punch on his black armor, the two gestures resonating. Brief but intense vibrations blew outward, washing over the golden barrage, dispersing it on the spot.

The dense shockwave even flew as far as the dome and compound shield, making both shake violently, but nothing broke, at least when it came to those techniques.

As Liam had already noticed during the meeting, Black Hound’s armor was a rank 3 item, and the world couldn’t endure its power. The ground between Felix and the golden barriers erupted, creating a new mist, this time dark-yellow.

The second mist dispersed as quickly as it appeared, blown away by the fiery figure that had charged through it. Red Boar instantly reached the still-flickering golden barriers, already swinging the giant, fiery hammer in his hands.

That was another rank 3 item, a rank 3 weapon, and its effects were catastrophic.

Liam had to crouch on the fan due to the violent gales that blew from the clash. Tongues of flame shot everywhere, but shattering noises also resounded.

A giant, jagged hole had appeared in both the dome and the compound barrier, as if they were made of glass. Red flames burned everywhere around its edge, creating an inferno that had Red Boar at its center.

The path inside the encirclement was open, and Liam was the first to cross it, using the fan’s ability to accomplish the role only he could perform.
