Legend of Wyatt

Chapter 2885: Annie Campbell’s Thoughts

Even though she’d already prepared herself mentally, hearing it and seeing it with her own eyes were still two completely different feelings.

She glanced at the tightly shut door, then quietly turned around and left.

And just as Annie Campbell was leaving, two people walked out from the courtyard next door in succession. It was none other than the two top-grade alchemy Immortals of the Taiyi Immortal Sect, Hunter Swayer and Russel Yorke.

"That little princess of the Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect seems to... have fallen for Alchemist Barnes?"

Russel Yorke watched Annie Campbell’s receding back and said.

"Sounds about right."

Hearing Russel Yorke’s words, Hunter Swayer said as if it were only natural, "Alchemist Barnes isn’t even a hundred yet and he’s already achieved this level... And, didn’t you hear him say he’s from a major clan in the Central Lands?"

"With a man this outstanding, I’m afraid any woman would be moved by him, wouldn’t she?"

"That little princess of the Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect, I’ve heard of her before. Her standards are sky-high, and she doesn’t give ordinary men a second look... A woman like that, once a man appears who is practically perfect in her eyes, she’ll devote herself completely to him."

Hunter Swayer said.

"Alchemist Swayer, you understand women?"

Russel Yorke was a bit surprised.

"But of course... back when I was young, I’d taken down a thousand."

Hunter Swayer lifted his head, somewhat pleased with himself, then turned around and went back into the courtyard.

"A thousand?"

When Russel Yorke first heard Hunter Swayer’s words, he didn’t quite get what he meant. It took him a moment to react, and then he was left dumbstruck:

"Alchemist Swayer usually looks like such a proper, honest old man..."

"And yet when he was young, he was that much of a playboy?"

In that instant, Russel Yorke felt like his entire worldview had been overturned.

...

A few days later, the group from the Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect was getting ready to depart and head back.

Wyatt Barnes and the others also walked toward the front courtyard of the residence, going to meet up with the Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect’s group.

"Wyatt, those two Immortal Methods and Divine Abilities you obtained—how long do you think you’ll need to fully master them?"

On the way, Leilany sent a voice transmission to Wyatt.

"I’m not too sure either... If I put a bit more thought into it, I should be able to grasp them within a relatively short time."

Wyatt replied via voice transmission.

These past few days, he’d only spent half his time cultivating. The rest of his attention had been focused on those two Monarch Level Immortal Methods and Divine Abilities from the Win-From-Joy Zen Sect and the Xuantian Immortal Sect.

One Pill Tao Conference, and he’d won himself a Monarch Level Immortal Method and a Monarch Level Divine Ability that both combined offense, speed, and defense.

Wyatt’s "battle record" like this, in the history of the Six Domains of the Southeast, might not dare claim that no one in the future could surpass it, but it could definitely be called unprecedented in the past...

"That Monarch Level Divine Ability, Purple Energy from the East, is fine; it’s a relatively balanced, moderate Divine Ability... In the past, my comprehension of other Divine Abilities had quite a few common points with it. To fully comprehend it won’t take too long."

"As for that Monarch Level Immortal Method, Immovable King... that’s going to require more time. If it were a Monarch Level Immortal Method suited to a Sword Immortal, then by relying on my comprehension of Supreme Heart Sword, the process of understanding it would be much more efficient."

"It’s just a pity that it’s an Immortal Method that has nothing at all to do with Sword Immortals."

"Still, the moon waxes and wanes, and not everything can be perfect... This time, being able to obtain these two Immortal Methods and Divine Abilities, I should already be content."

Wyatt thought to himself.

In the last couple of days, while trying to comprehend the Immortal Method Immovable King and the Divine Ability Purple Energy from the East, Wyatt had discovered:

As it turned out, Immortal Methods and Divine Abilities from all the myriad planes of the heavens still shared many commonalities, as long as their types were similar.

Take Purple Energy from the East, for example. It’s a relatively balanced, moderate Divine Ability without any particularly distinct traits.

This Divine Ability had quite a lot in common with the Divine Abilities he’d already mastered, so comprehending it wasn’t that difficult...

"So, if conditions allow, it’s best to choose Immortal Methods and Divine Abilities of similar types along the way... That way, you’ll undoubtedly be able to spend less time on comprehending Immortal Methods and Divine Abilities."

"And the extra time can be used entirely for cultivation or other things."

Sometimes, some things only truly sink in once you’ve personally experienced them.

Although Wyatt had already understood a bit of this sort of thing in the past, it had only been a somewhat superficial understanding. It hadn’t really resonated with him, and couldn’t compare at all to the impact of his own personal experience.

"Alchemist Barnes."

Very soon, Wyatt’s group met up with the group from the Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect, and the Sect Leader of the Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect, Julie Simplicity, even took the initiative to bring people over to greet Wyatt.

"Sect Leader Julie."

Wyatt hurriedly greeted Julie Simplicity with a smile, and at the same time nodded toward Annie Campbell who was standing beside her.

After all, they could be considered old acquaintances. If they met and he didn’t say anything, that would undoubtedly seem a bit rude.

Only, Wyatt soon noticed:

The Annie Campbell who had been fairly warm to him a few days ago was now giving him the cold shoulder. She only responded with a faint acknowledgment, and then stopped paying him any attention.

He was a bit baffled by this, but he didn’t probe into it. He simply sighed inwardly:

A woman’s heart is like a needle at the bottom of the sea!

"Junior Sister, what’s wrong with you? Weren’t you... quite fond of Alchemist Barnes?"

At this moment, Julie Simplicity also noticed something off about Annie Campbell, and couldn’t help sending her a voice transmission to ask.

Hearing Julie Simplicity’s voice transmission, Annie Campbell’s cheeks instantly flushed bright red. She sent back a flustered retort, "Senior Sister, what are you even talking about? Who likes him? A philandering big radish like that— even if every man in the world died, I still wouldn’t like him."

"What’s wrong? Jealous of that girl Leilany now?"

Catching the sourness in Annie Campbell’s tone, Julie Simplicity easily guessed what was on her junior sister’s mind, and spoke again with patient earnestness:

"Junior Sister, in this world, powerful men very rarely only have one woman."

"This Alchemist Barnes is quite something... If you can, you should hold on to him."

As she went on, Julie Simplicity added another word of advice for Annie Campbell.

Though in her entire life, she herself had never experienced anything between a man and a woman.

But as the saying goes:

You may never have eaten pork, but you’ve at least seen pigs run.

With so many women in Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect, just from what she’d seen and heard, she understood quite a bit about relationships between men and women.

"Senior Sister, I really don’t..."

Annie Campbell wanted to send another voice transmission to defend herself, but the more she spoke, the less confident she felt.

On the other side.

"Alchemist Barnes, did you feel that little princess of Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect suddenly changed her attitude toward you, not as warm as a few days ago?"

Beside Wyatt Barnes’s ear, a voice transmission suddenly sounded.

"Hm?"

Wyatt looked toward the one sending the voice transmission and saw that it was none other than Monarch Level top-grade alchemist of Taiyi Immortal Sect, Hunter Swayer. "Alchemist Swayer, don’t tell me you know the reason her attitude toward me has changed so much in just a few days?"

Just now, though Wyatt had noticed how much Annie Campbell’s attitude toward him had shifted, he hadn’t paid it much mind, much less dug into it.

Now, hearing what Hunter Swayer said, it sounded like he knew the reason.

And immediately, Wyatt’s curiosity was piqued.

"Alchemist Barnes, three days ago..."

Facing the curious Wyatt, Hunter Swayer smiled as he told him how three days prior Annie Campbell had come looking for him, and ended up discovering him and Leilany inside the same room.

"And what does that have to do with the change in her attitude toward me?"

Listening to Hunter Swayer, Wyatt still didn’t quite get it.

"Alchemist Barnes, don’t tell me... you haven’t noticed she’s fallen for you?"

Hunter Swayer widened his eyes in exaggerated disbelief as he looked at Wyatt.

"What?!"

Wyatt was also startled into widening his eyes. After glancing at Annie Campbell in the distance, he looked back at Hunter Swayer. "She... likes me? Alchemist Swayer, you must have it wrong, right?"

"No way I’ve got it wrong!"

Hunter Swayer shook his head. "Alchemist Barnes, you seem to have known this little princess of Thousand Spiders Immortal Sect from before... If I’m not mistaken, her attitude toward you now should be completely different from how it was back in the Desolate Territory, right?"

"It does seem that way..."

Hearing him say that, Wyatt thought back for a moment and then realized:

Annie Campbell’s attitude toward him now really was quite different.

At the same time, Wyatt glanced at Annie Campbell again, and happened to catch her looking his way. When she saw him looking over, she hurriedly turned her head, and a faint blush rose over both her cheeks.

Wyatt couldn’t help sighing inwardly, and also realized he’d been somewhat slow on the uptake.

Of course, that didn’t mean Wyatt had low emotional intelligence.

Mainly, when it came to Annie Campbell, he had always treated her as his woman’s best friend...

Milana Harrington was his woman, and Annie Campbell was Milana Harrington’s best friend, so he had never once interpreted Annie Campbell’s attitude toward him in a romantic way.

He’d always assumed that the reason her attitude later grew better toward him was because she was giving Milana Harrington face.

Yet after Hunter Swayer’s reminder just now, combined with his own observation, it really wasn’t hard to see:

Annie Campbell did seem to have developed feelings for him.

"Looks like I’ll have to keep a bit of distance from this Third Miss Campbell in the future..."

After realizing Annie Campbell harbored feelings toward him, Wyatt immediately reminded himself of this, because right now, he truly had no mind for dalliances.

His wife Keer, his wife Jovie Lee, his confidante Winnie Romero, his parents, his children, and all his many relatives and friends were now in the Divine Ruin Lands, waiting for him to go save them.

He had only a little over nine hundred years left.

Within these nine hundred-odd years, he must raise his strength as quickly as possible. Only then would he have hope, when the spatial passage between the Divine Ruin Lands and all the heavens’ planes reopened after those nine hundred-plus years, of entering the Divine Ruin Lands and rescuing Keer and the others!

Of course, even if not for that— even if he were still in the mortal plane right now, with Keer and the others still by his side and in no danger...

When it came to flowers and grass around him, he would still avoid them whenever he could.

After all, he already had plenty of women at his side, and he loved them dearly. He didn’t want to let them be hurt because of any other woman.

Milana Harrington had been an accident.

Just look— even with someone as perfectly stunning as Leilany by his side, he’d always been deliberately keeping his distance, hadn’t he?
