Chapter 2052: Chapter 2052: Longing to Return (19)

"Mind your own business." Chi Gui turned his head and walked toward the dorm.

"Hey..."

You Zixi looked around, totally confused.

Forget it, Brother Chi’s thoughts are like needles at the bottom of the sea, better not try to guess. You wouldn’t figure him out anyway.

Chi Gui was almost back at the dorm when he suddenly stopped again.

"I’m going to the convenience store."

"Oh, I’ll go with you."

"No need."

Chi Gui left You Zixi behind and strode off.

You Zixi shouted after him: "Brother Chi, bring me chips!! Tomato flavor!!"

-

Chuzheng followed the boy all the way to the small grove behind the track.

There weren’t any paths in the grove originally, but the students had trampled out a few.

The boy led her deeper into the grove, his body trembling slightly.

If he’d known Chuzheng was this fierce, he wouldn’t have done this no matter what...

"We’re not there yet?"

"Up... up ahead." The boy pointed ahead. "Right there."

Chuzheng looked where he pointed and vaguely saw some figures.

Chuzheng: "You can go now."

The boy stared: "I... I can go? Really?"

"If you want to stay, that’s fine too." I’m a very reasonable, nice person.

No no no no!!

He did not want to stay.

The boy turned and ran.

Chuzheng flexed her wrist and headed toward those silhouettes.

"Think that bitch’s gonna bail again today?"

"You think that kid’s gonna pull it off? Fuck, he can’t even get someone to show up! Useless trash."

"If you’re not trash, why didn’t you ask her yourself?" A cool, clear voice cut in from the side.

The guy who’d been talking snapped his head around. In the dark, someone was suddenly standing there, outline blurry, with clawing branches behind them.

That voice continued: "You called me out. For what? To fight?"

The few boys finally reacted, the same thought flashing through their minds: the person they wanted was here!

One of the boys stood up, viciously snarling, "Back on the mountain, you’re the one who went and told the teacher, aren’t you!"

At first they were confused how the teacher had found them.

Then when they saw Chi Gui and that girl beside him, they understood.

Chi Gui isn’t the type to snitch, so the most likely culprit was that girl.

"Wasn’t me."

"Heh, you think I’m gonna believe that?"

"If you don’t believe it, why are you asking?" Are you brain-damaged?

"...Little brat’s got a sharp tongue, huh!" The boy’s voice turned cruel. "What’s your relationship with Chi Gui? You two dating or something?"

"..." Chuzheng looked him over suspiciously. "Do you like him?"

Why does this feel like the official girlfriend coming to pick a fight?

A little scary...

"Why the fuck would I like him!" The boy was like a cat whose tail had just been stepped on.

Chuzheng was puzzled: "If you don’t like him, why do you care what’s going on between me and him? Are you sick?"

The boy: "..."

You’re the fucking one who’s sick!

No, wait!

Why was he getting dragged along by this girl’s train of thought?

The boy took a deep breath, calmed himself, and spoke with a sinister tone: "Little classmate, tell me—do you think he’d come here for you?"

Chuzheng thought about it, then seriously asked, "Why would he come here for me?"

The boy thought his plan was great: "You’re in our hands now. If he cares about you, he might show up..."

Chuzheng cut him off: "Are you under some kind of misconception?"

The boy: "What misconception?"

Chuzheng: "When exactly did I end up in your hands?" You fucking wish!

The boy clicked his tongue: "You’re already here. You really think you can still run away?"

"Why couldn’t I?" I came here precisely to see which bastard went to all this trouble just to ask me out for a fight.

The boy laughed like he’d just heard a joke: "You sure talk big, little classmate! Have you even looked at yourself? You think you can beat all of us?"

A little girl like her, up against this many guys?

Chuzheng carefully looked around at everyone present. "I think I can."

The boy: "..."

The few boys glanced at each other, then burst out laughing.

It wasn’t that they were looking down on her, it’s that she really looked like the type who’d topple over in a breeze.

But one of the boys suddenly thought of that look she’d given them when Chi Gui took her away on the mountain, and felt a faint unease.

"It’s getting late. Hurry up." I still need to get back to the dorm; if I’m late the dorm auntie’s gonna interrogate me forever.

"..."

Even Chi Gui’s never been this cocky!

Their plan had been to drag her here, first get revenge for her tattling, then see if they could lure Chi Gui out.

If they could draw Chi Gui in, that’d be killing two birds with one stone.

But...

The opening act was already way off script.

"Little brat, don’t blame us for not remembering we’re classmates."

"Okay." I’ll just hit you a little harder!

"..."

"Get her!"

Motherfuckers!

-

Grunts echoed in the trees, along with the sound of heavy bodies hitting the ground.

Chi Gui stood behind a tree, watching those blurry shapes move, strike... and cleanly drop several guys to the ground.

After the girl finished off the last one, she walked over to one of the boys, bent down, and squatted.

In the Dark, her faint voice carried over: "If you go after Chi Gui again, what happened today is only an appetizer."

"Relax... I... will... die... know..."

The girl lowered her voice for the last part, and Chi Gui only caught a few vague words.

"I... I won’t, I won’t anymore."

The boy had been beaten into an existential crisis and then threatened; right now he was pure fear, with no toughness left at all.

"Let’s hope so."

Chuzheng didn’t stand up. Instead, she reached into her pocket to feel around.

"Sis... what... what else do you want? I swear, I’ll never bother Chi Gui again. When I see him I’ll walk the other way, I swear!!"

Chuzheng pulled out her phone, tapped twice, and held it out to him. "Scan the code."

The boy shivered: "...I... I don’t have money."

Who wants your money.

"Add me as a friend."

"...

The boy hurriedly dug out his own phone and fearfully added her as a friend.

"Did we see each other today?"

"See... didn’t... we didn’t, we didn’t!!" The boy’s survival instinct was in overdrive.

Chuzheng left satisfied, heading out of the grove with her phone. Now that she’d dealt with this bunch, Chi Gui shouldn’t have any more trouble, right?

Sometimes, a person’s breaking point isn’t some earth-shattering event. It might just be some insignificant incident in their daily life.

One little thing after another, until everything collapses.

"Student Hang."

A sudden voice rang out. Chuzheng turned her head to the side.

Chi Gui was leaning against a tree trunk, school uniform hanging loosely off him, casual and languid.

His face was swallowed up by the Dark; she couldn’t see it clearly.

Chuzheng’s eyes narrowed. "You followed me?"

Chi Gui: "Just passing by."

"Oh." Chuzheng turned, and without warning braced her hand against the tree Chi Gui was leaning on. Her wall slam stance was textbook-perfect and cool as hell.
